Well, Mercedes-Benz->ke187 did it with the G-Wagon, so why not modify a Hummer H2 SUT with an extra axle, two extra wheels, and an extra-long bed to cover it all? Yep, extra, or perhaps excess are the operative words. This massive beast actually for sale in the everything-is-bigger state of Texas for an equally large $98,950.

The vehicle started life as a standard H2 SUT with its Chevy Avalanche-->ke470like removable mid-gate and fold-flat second row. The one and only owner traded in the Hummer just before an unnamed “custom outfitter/limo company” purchased the truck. That company completed all the modifications to the frame, suspension, and body, along with the military-spec “Flat Dark Earth” paint color and custom interior job.

Now this H2 SUT six-wheeler is for sale and all it takes is green money. The seller says the vehicle has a clean record and only sports 27,000 miles. Of course with it being a Hummer,->ke35 it comes with GM’s->ke2320 6.2-liter V-8 and six-speed automatic transmission. Sadly however, the new rear axle is just for show and doesn’t get power from the engine. The H2 still has its trusty four-wheel-drive system for getting through the rough stuff though.

Pros
Cons

Exterior

Much of the news is related to how this monster looks. The elephant in the room is the added extra axle and stretched bed. Other modifications include the “Flat Dark Earth” paint job that mimics what the U.S. military paints its desert-fighting vehicles. The Hummer’s wheels and tires are also upgraded to Nitto Terra Grapplers and XD Series wheels. Running boards help ease access to the tall cabin and a power-retractable tonneau cover protects the bed from harsh outside elements.

There are also a few military symbols that are said to relate to actual military units in U.S. history.

Interior

Like the outside, the interior has been completely upgraded. A full leather job has been done, covering nearly every square inch in rich brown-and-black cow hide. Even the headliner is now upholstered in the stuff. French seams hold everything together

The H2’s interior still has all the amenities it came with from the factory. Its touchscreen infotainment unit is front and center in the dash complete with XM radio. The folding DVD player still resides on the ceiling for second-row passengers, and the heated steering wheel resides under its new leather covering.

When extra space is needed for cargo, the rear glass folds inside the mid-gate and the entire unit folds forward into the cabin, allowing for cargo to fill up the entire bed and rear seat areas.

Drivetrain

Things are pretty much stock under the hood. The venerable 6.2-liter, GM, small-block V-8 generates a respectable 393 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with tow/haul mode and manual-shifting capabilities. Of course, four-wheel-drive is a standard feature, with an electronic transfer case doing the work. It gives a choice between two-wheel-drive, four-wheel-drive high range, four-wheel-drive low range, and neutral.

The rear, err, middle axle also sports its standard G80 mechanical locking differential from Eaton, helping it get through tough terrain that would otherwise be too challenging.

Prices

While the average 2009 Hummer H2 SUT goes for an about $41,000, this bad-boy is stickering at $98,950. The extra money goes to pay for the exterior mechanical work, the new body color, and the interior upgrades.

Conclusion

This beast has Arnold Schwarzenegger and GI Joe written all over it and its macho character is surpassed only by that of Chuck Norris. This H2 SUT six-wheeler proves the Hummer can always be made bigger and more difficult to park, though its ability to crush obstacles in its path generally eliminates any worries of driving to the local big-box store.

While it is disappointing the secondary axle is not powered by the engine, its inoperability likely saves on fuel bills. Then again, those willing to pay $98,950 for a vehicle aren’t likely worried about gas prices.
