Toca Marketing Group isn’t a big name in the aftermarket scene, but all that could change at the 2014 SEMA Auto Show->ke216 when the Chicago-based customization company introduces the Hyundai Genesis Steel Phoenix. If we can award prizes based on aftermarket names, ‘Steel Phoenix’ is about as good as it gets. But the name isn’t the only thing outwardly spectacular about this program. Far more important are the goodies Toca Marketing added to the Genesis Sedan,->ke142 turning it into a 600-horsepower monster with sinister intentions.

Toca Marketing put great emphasis in meticulously modifying every nook and cranny of this Genesis,->ke2924 allowing it to go head-to-head with some of the finest German super-sedans in the world. High expectations, for sure, but once you see what Toca did to the Genesis, you might find yourself wondering if it can even cross over and compete with some of Italy’s finest.

Give the Genesis Steel Phoenix your full attention because it deserves it and so much more. The comprehensive upgrades on the body, cabin, and engine give it the kind of credibility you only get with some of the best product offerings at SEMA.

Exterior

The custom, all-metal, wide-body kit is the obvious takeaway from the Toca Marketing Groups’ work on the exterior of the Genesis Sedan. But that’s just the beginning. The tuner also enlisted the help of Ark Performance, who provided the rear carbon-fiber diffuser, and BASF, who was tasked with coming up with a number of paints specifically for the Genesis Sedan, including the Custom Grigio Silverstone finish and the various accents that complement the sleek and sportier look of the Genesis Sedan.

The program also comes with a set of custom, 21-inch COR three-piece wheels wrapped in ultra-high-performance Toyo tires.

Interior

Toca Marketing left no stones unturned with this program. Even the interior was given a classy upgrade, thanks to the addition of custom, black leather seats with contrasting white stitching.

Carbon-fiber trim panels and brushed aluminum were also added, same with the plethora of new gauges, a custom embossed Toca Signature Edition Logo in the headrests, and a Rockford Fosgate sound system that’s been set up with a 500-watt class-BR mono amplifier, a 400-watt, class-AD, four-channel amplifier, a 6.5-inch power series component system, a 6.5-inch two-way full-range speaker, and a 10-inch power T0 two-ohm DVC subwoofer. Needless to say, Steel Phoenix has an audio system that can literally make your ears bleed.

Drivetrain

Toca Marketing Group founder John Toca built the Steel Phoenix kit because he wants to showcase what his company is capable of. On that note, Toca Marketing went above and beyond what’s expected of it, producing a scintillating engine upgrade that pushes the Genesis Sedan’s 5.0-liter, V-8 engine to produce some crazy, crazy performance numbers.

The tuning company accomplished that by engineering a one-of-a-kind Garrett GTX3067R ball-bearing turbocharger setup and surrounding it with new performance components, including a full ARK Performance catback exhaust system to improve horsepower and produce an unmistakably gnarly, high-performance sound. Turbine housings, wastegates, and control valves were also installed. Same with the new plumbing custom oil cooler system from Earl’s Performance and batteries from Optima Batteries, two new components that will be able to keep the Genesis running at its full capacity.

The result of this comprehensive upgrade is as remarkable as it looks. Toca Marketing was able to improve the car’s output to 600 horsepower, 180 ponies more than its stock figures.

Chassis and Suspension

On top of the massive engine upgrade, Toca Marketing also installed an AirRex digital air suspension system that will be able to handle the added power from that engine. The suspension is going to be especially important to ensure that the Genesis Steel Phoenix remains a safe car to drive.

Pricing

I'm not sure whether Toca Marketing Group will offer the Steel Phoenix program when it leaves SEMA next month. Considering how extensive this upgrade is both in all facets of aftermarket tuning, I do expect the program to fetch a hefty sum if Toca does put it up for sale.

Conclusion

As far as tuning programs for the Genesis Sedan are concerned, this is about as action-packed as it can get. It even has cool nickname to justify all the modifications Toca Marketing Group and all its tuning partners put into the vehicle.

I'd love to see one on the road to see what it's fully capable of.
