Turbocharged, limited-edition model for the British market

The second-generation Hyundai i20 was launched in 2014 with significant updates over its predecessors. New features include a redesigned exterior, a more modern interior with new tech, a longer wheelbase for improved legroom, and revised gasoline and diesel engines. Praised for its revised equipment lines that include more standard features, higher quality interior, and attractive design, the new i20 was somewhat criticized for its uninspiring drivetrains and more expensive sticker.

Come 2016 and Hyundai updated the i20 with a brand-new engine in the form of a turbocharged, 1.0-liter, three-cylinder unit. Although not the first three-pot available with the i20, it’s the first turboed gasoline unit to find its way into the supermini. In order to celebrate the new introduction, Hyundai launched a special-edition model in the United Kingdom. Dubbed Turbo Edition, it comes with a significant discount over the trim level it is based on and with a new advertising campaign for the i20.

Much like most special-edition Hyundais, the Turbo Edition is far from fancy, but a good way to promote a new drivetrain. There’s no word as to how long it will be on sale, but the offer shouldn’t last more than a few months. What Makes the Hyundai i20 Turbo Edition Special

Although labeled as a special edition, the Turbo Edition is actually identical to the i20 SE model it is based on. The only feature that sets it apart is a set of 16-inch alloy wheels, which are larger than the usual rollers offered with the SE trim. Hyundai offers the Turbo Edition in six exterior colors: Polar White, Aqua Sparkling, Sleek Silver, Stardust Grey, Phantom Black, Red Passion. These hues are actually the same you get with the regular i20 SE. The difference is that the standard model can also be had in Iced Coffee and Mandarin Orange.

Inside, the hatchback comes with the same features as the i20 SE, including Bluetooth, DAB digital radio, cruise control with speed limited, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and phone controls, and a seven-inch touchscreen. Not bad compared to the base model. The upholstery is cloth, but unlike the i20 SE, which has a Grey/Blue interior, the Turbo Edition gets a Black/Grey layout.

Optionally, customers can add a rear view camera, automatic lights with dusk sensor, and satellite navigation. The latter comes with a free seven-year TomTom Live Services subscription, which provides traffic information, speed camera alerts, weather updates, and live Point Of Interest notifications.

As the name suggests, the Turbo Edition gets its juice from Hyundai’s brand-new 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine. The turbocharged mill cranks out 100 PS (99 horsepower) and it’s currently the most powerful unit available with the i20, alongside the 1.4-liter four-cylinder. On top of being quite potent for such a small unit, the three-pot is also on the green side with CO2 emissions of only 104 g/km.

Pricing for the Turbo Edition starts from £12,975. For reference, the i20 SE retails from £13,025, while the turbocharged 1.0-liter option adds another £1,000 for a final price of £14,025. All told, Turbo Edition customers get a £1,050 discount compared to ordering the same configuration the old-fashioned way. Not bad.

High Wycombe, 3 August 2016 – Hyundai Motor UK has revealed pricing and specification details for its new i20 Turbo Edition. Designed, engineered and built in Europe, the i20 Turbo Edition will be priced from £12,975 OTR when it enters showrooms this August.

Meeting the growing trend for small capacity turbo petrol engines, the special edition i20 Turbo features Hyundai’s entertaining yet efficient100PS 1.0-litre turbocharged 3 cylinder petrol engine with CO2 emissions just 104 g/km.

Fitted with distinctive 16” alloy wheels, the special edition model will be available in a choice of six exterior colours: Polar White, Aqua Sparkling, Sleek Silver, Stardust Grey, Phantom Black and Red Passion, all with a sophisticated Black/Grey interior.

Based on the well-specified i20 SE, the sporty new i20 Turbo Edition offers Bluetooth®, DAB digital radio, cruise control with speed limiter, and a leather wrapped steering wheel with audio and phone controls as standard. The special edition builds on the SE model’s specification, adding a rear view camera, automatic lights with dusk sensor, and satellite navigation via a seven-inch integrated touch screen.

With the satellite navigation upgrade, Turbo Edition owners receive a free seven-year TomTom Live Services subscription, which provides the most up to date traffic information, speed camera alerts, weather updates, and live Point Of Interest notifications.

To coincide with the launch of the Turbo Edition, Hyundai Motor UK will be launching a new TV advertisement for the i20 which will run from August 5 – September 19. The 30 second ad will leverage our recent successes in the World rally Championship and showcase how the learnings from our motorsport team will filter down across the range over the coming years.
