Hyundai revealed the 2021 Santa Fe, which is supposed to be a facelift but features some big changes. The current-gen SUV was released in 2018 and just over two years later, the company has refreshed it.

You’d expect the standard aesthetic changes and upgrades, but for the 2021 model, Hyundai has moved the Santa Fe to a new platform altogether. The South Korean automaker has also added new colors to the palette. There are many changes in the tech department as well. Is it right to call this a mere facelift?

Say hello to Hyundai’s new flagship suv

The Hyundai Palisade is the new flagship of the range, so it needs to be very good. It has a distinctive face that sets it apart from other Hyundai models and clearly can’t be mistaken for another brand. However, it’s not its striking fascia put on an otherwise familiar big SUV shape that’s important here, but the amount of room inside and how pleasant it is to travel in.

With seating for up to eight people, the Palisade offers one more than some competitors, and if you fold down all of its seats, you can get a pretty van-like loading bay. It also looks and feels well appointed inside, with no dramatic design touches - It’s just clear, functional, and minimalist.

It needs to face tough adversaries that have several generations of models behind them and, with it being a completely new nameplate, it may struggle a bit. Its exterior appearance blends a funky face with a more traditional overall aesthetic, but the interior may feel reminiscent to what you may see in a high-end German brand like Mercedes, Audi, or BMW, and its rivals will struggle to match the same feel inside their cabins.

2015 - 2016 Hyundai Genesis

As Hyundai found its way into a more premium market, it decided it would begin taking on more luxurious automakers. In doing so, it introduced the Hyundai Genesis – a model that was said to be aimed at the BMW 5 Series. For the 2015 model year, Hyundai introduced the second generation of its rear-wheel drive luxury vehicle boasting a redesigned exterior that rivals that of its German counterparts and an interior that is superior in terms of comfort and appearance. Highlights on the outside include a redesigned grille with an aggressive front fascia, a sculpted side profile, and a sporty rear end that makes you wonder why there is a Hyundai badge on the decklid. Inside, the car comes standard with heated, 12-way adjustable front seats, double-stitching for the leather upholstery, and the option for aluminum and matte-finished wood on the dash. Under the hood, things get even more impressive with a 311 horsepower V-6 or a surprising 5.0-liter V-8 with 420 horsepower.

It might seem odd to think about a Hyundai with more than 400 horsepower, but the brand made it a reality. The Genesis name has now become its own sub-brand under the Hyundai umbrella, but the Geneses sedan lives on through the 2016 model year, where a whole new offering of luxury vehicles will grace showrooms. Until then, the Genesis sedan and coupe are about the best Hyundai has to offer, but how does it compete against its rivals like the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes E-Class? 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid - Driven

Hyundai’s current 2015 Hyundai Sonata sedan got a rather extensive makeover for the 2015 model year. Its exterior, interior and powertrain were basically all new, though sadly, the hybrid model was left out of the fun like the dorky kid in a schoolyard game of kickball. The analogy grows ever more convincing when looking at the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid’s odd face. It’s one only its mother could love. But that’s all changed for 2016. It’s like the dork went to summer camp and pumped iron, started fire with his bare hands, and learned how to flirt with the ladies.

The new Sonata Hybrid now enjoys all the same features that made the 2015 Sonata a fantastic car. It’s got the suave looks of a gentleman, an interior that makes luxury offerings from five years ago look like rental cars, and Hyundai’s new 2.0-liter gasoline direct-injected four-cylinder and six-speed automatic transmission that afford some Prius-like fuel economy numbers.

I recently got the chance to sample the new 2016 Sonata Hybrid for a week. It came decked out in the range-topping Limited trim with the exclusive Ultimate Package. Besides a self-driving mode or perhaps a built-in refrigerator, this car seemed to have every bell and whistle imaginable on a modern sedan.

Even with its optional equipment and hybrid drive system, its price didn’t shock the system. At $35,765 as tested, the Sonata Hybrid solidifies itself as a fuel-sipper that thinks it’s a luxury sedan.

2015 Hyundai Genesis - Driven

Under the shadow of BMW’s Spartanburg manufacturing plant nestled in the rolling hills of South Carolina, I found myself ripping through corners of back county highways in the new 2015 Hyundai Genesis. And though the plant only produces BMW’s popular SUVs and crossovers, the Genesis’ intent to conquer giants became blatantly obvious the farther I traveled through the sweeping hills.

The roads along my path were littered with hairpin turns and switchbacks followed by long straights with varying pavement conditions. Besides the few locals traversing the trail and that one tractor creeping along behind a blind curve, the road was nearly mine. The Genesis’ new, more rigid chassis and upgraded suspension system with a driver-selectable Sport Mode rode tight with a very balanced feel that inspired confidence.

The steering in my RWD tester felt light yet properly weighted while its variable ratio kept my inputs in check. With the car weighing in at 4,138 pounds, I was amazed at how well the Hankook tires griped the road without howling complaints. Only under mid-corner power was I able to induce noticeable understeer. I’m no Mario Andretti, but I was giving it the beans. The Genesis just tracked like it was on rails with almost no body roll.

2013 Hyundai Genesis Sedan

As Hyundai continues growing its lineup into one that competes with just about every automaker in the market, it is still refreshing its current vehicles. The Genesis is up for a complete overhaul in the 2014 model year, but this doesn’t mean Hyundai will just standby and let their second-in-line sedan just roll into 2013 unchanged.

Hyundai has made a nice handful of changes to the Genesis, most of which the company is writing off as ways to make the lineup more simple. These changes include some mild changes under the hood and some tuning to the interior and technology of the popular sedan. Hyundai also added one huge addition to the inside of the Genesis Sedan that will help make every driver’s life much easier.
