2021 Hyundai Santa Fe - What’s New for 2021?
Hyundai revealed the 2021 Santa Fe, which is supposed to be a facelift but features some big changes. The current-gen SUV was released in 2018 and just over two years later, the company has refreshed it.
You’d expect the standard aesthetic changes and upgrades, but for the 2021 model, Hyundai has moved the Santa Fe to a new platform altogether. The South Korean automaker has also added new colors to the palette. There are many changes in the tech department as well. Is it right to call this a mere facelift?
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe represents the fourth generation of Hyundai’s most noticeable SUV. On the market since 2000, we’ve seen it transform from a basic, compact SUV into something that’s a little closer to being midsized but also closer to the premium category. For 2019, it’s more attractive and more advanced than ever. With a new exterior look, more upscale cabin (with more space than ever), and a lineup of fuel-efficient drivetrain choices, you really can’t go wrong with the Hyundai Santa Fe. We actually got our hands on a 2019 model and put it through the paces. Our tester was a 2.0T model, so we had the turbocharged engine that was very enjoyable to drive. As you’ll find out from our driven review below, the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe is easy to enjoy.
2020 Hyundai Santa Fe N
Hyundai announced its high-performance N division back in 2013, and four years later it launched the first vehicle with this badge: the i30 N. With the Veloster N following in early 2018, everyone is now wondering which nameplate will get the next performance update. Some of the company’s crossovers will also get the N treatment, and word has it that the Kona and Tucson might be first in line. But, what if Hyundai also made an N version of the Santa Fe? The SUV looks quite sporty in standard trim, and those aggressive N features would turn it into a menacing hauler and a unique vehicle in the affordable market.
Although Hyundai did say that there are plans to create N-badged crossovers, these aren’t a priority for the Korean brand. The Santa Fe is probably even farther down the line, but it would be the best-looking SUV with the N badge. And, it would also be a reasonable proposition for the recently launched Ford Edge ST. Although the idea seems a bit far-fetched right now, the Santa Fe N could happen sometime in late 2019, after Hyundai unleashes similar versions of the Kona and Tucson. 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe
Hyundai has been made its Santa Fe SUV since 2000. When it was first introduced, the Santa Fe was a compact crossover, but these days, its grown a bit closer to mid-size territory. Three generations have come and gone since the original 2001 model year, with the second-gen appearing at the Detroit Auto Show in 2006, and the third-gen debuting at the New York Auto Show in 2012. We last saw the Santa Fe in its refreshed third-gen form at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, but now, there’s a fourth-gen arriving to tempt buyers. Recently introduced at the Hyundai Motorstudio in Goyang, the 2019 Santa Fe brings with it a fresh exterior aesthetic, new gear in the interior, a premium cabin layout, extra passenger space, and a new eight-speed automatic transmission to boot.
All told, it’s a solid lineup of features, but that’s what you need these days keep pace with the horde of competition already out there. Hyundai doesn’t seem too worried, though. The Santa Fe is the brand’s best-selling SUV in the U.S. market, moving as many as 1.5 million units. 2017 Hyundai Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-Roader Santa Fe Sport Concept
The Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is probably not the first SUV people would think of as full-fledged off-road marauder. It’s not the SUV’s fault for having that image. It is what it is. But what if there was a way to turn the Santa Fe Sport into precisely the kind of SUV that can plow through the outdoors with relative ease? It’s a fascinating idea, one that Hyundai is bringing to life with the Hyundai Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-Roader Santa Fe Sport Concept.
It’s got an obscenely long name, but make no mistake, this Santa Fe Sport Concept is more than just a grocery hauler. On the contrary, it’s been designed to handle any kind of terrain and withstand all the conditions that Mother Nature can throw its way. Even at first glance, the Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-Roader Santa Fe Sport Concept looks nothing like its standard Santa Fe counterpart. For one, it sits so far off the ground that it can fit those massive Mickey Thompson 35x12.50R17 Baja MTZ off-road tires. Then there’s the matter of the SUV getting dressed up in sick camo, not to mention all the extra accessories it gets that allow it to perform its function as a legitimate beast of the outdoors. Rest assured, this is one Santa Fe that you wouldn’t want to see in your rear-view mirrors.

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe – Driven
Midsize crossovers are plentiful. They’re among the most popular vehicles on our roads today. As such, the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe has its work cut out for it. After all, this is the segment of such titans as the Ford Explorer, Chevrolet Traverse, Nissan Pathfinder, Honda Pilot, and Toyota Highlander.
Those who pay attention to the vehicles around them on the road every day probably see a lot of midsize crossovers. It’s a super-popular class. Right-sized and relatively budget-friendly, these are the station wagons of our day.
With so much competition, it would be easy to get lost in the crowd. Ask Mazda’s CX-9 – the slowest-selling in this class in the 2016 calendar year, not counting the oddball, high-priced Volkswagen Touareg. With that in mind, Korean automaker Hyundai has its act together, and sales bear this out: The company moved 131,257 Santa Fes in 2016, an 11.1-percent increase over the year prior.

2016 Hyundai Santa-Fast By Bisimoto
Per tradition, SEMA is shaping up to be one helluva show this year, with all kinds of outrageous custom autos heading to the Las Vegas desert for a spot in the limelight. Whatever your preferred flavor might be, SEMA is sure to have something there for ya, from domestic muscle cars to tuner-special imports, lifted off-roaders to high-strung exotics. SEMA has a little bit of everything, which means it’s not always easy to stand out from the crowd. One surefire workaround is to mash together opposite ends of the automotive spectrum – you know, like blessing a Hyundai Santa Fe with over 1,000 horsepower. No, seriously.
It’s called the Santa-Fast, and rightfully so, given the SUV’s four-figure output number. Taking responsibility for creating this thing is Bisimoto Engineering, the same company that brought a 700-horsepower Hyundai Tucson to last year’s event. Hyundai called it absurd, which kinda makes you wonder what the automaker thinks of the Santa-Fast…

2016 Hyundai Rockstar Santa Fe Concept
You know the 2016 SEMA Auto Show is approaching when you start seeing automakers drop press releases about wild iterations of its vehicles. And so, we find ourselves with one of the first gnarly custom jobs that’s headed to Las Vegas. It’s called the Hyundai Rockstar Santa Fe Concept and it is glorious.
Step back for a second and take in what used to be a mild-mannered crossover that has since been turned to an off-roading marauder. Notice how it’s been raised up and fitted with those massive 35-inch Baja tires? That was all part of Rockstar’s plan when it partnered with Hyundai to work on this Santa Fe. It also comes with a bevy of new features, both of the useful and cosmetic varieties, all of which were installed to give the Santa the unilateral purpose of driving on any road condition it finds itself in.
Obviously, it’s unlikely that we’ll see the Rockstar Santa Fe hit the streets anytime soon, but given what Rockstar was able to pull off – it even has a nitrous oxide injection system! – I wouldn’t be able to blame anybody who takes a good look at this beauty and demands Hyundai to send it into production, even in a limited edition capacity.

2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Team Wiggins Edition
Sir Brandley Wiggins is a seven-time Olympic medalist and was the first Briton to win the Tour de France. In the 2014 road cycling season, there was speculation that Wiggins would found a new team as part of his preparations for the 2016 Olympic Games. Sure enough, by the end of 2014, Team Wiggins had been formed. For 2016, Team Wiggins has partnered with Hyundai, who is providing a fleet of five different vehicles as a mobile support squad during 2016 Tour of Britain and other European races during the 2016 racing season. To commemorate this partnership, Hyundai is releasing a limited-production Santa Fe, dubbed Team Wiggins Edition. There is nothing major about the limited-run model, but this special Santa Fe is equipped quite well, sports some subtle Team Wiggins badges, and is actually priced to sell.
Hyundai’s marketing director, David Pugh, said, “We’re proud to be supporting Team Wiggins this year. Sir Bradley is one of Britain’s sporting icons, and his team is innovative, dedicated and full of perseverance. We share that ethos at Hyundai, and it’s great to be able to celebrate this successful partnership by issuing a desirable twist on one of our own icons, the flagship Santa Fe. The Team Wiggins Edition is packed full of equipment, looks the part but crucially offers great value too. Buyers will need to be quick to snap up the 500-car run.”
That value that Pugh is talking about is the official price of this limited-run flagship. It is based on the Santa Fe Premium SE, but is actually priced about £700 (about $943) less than the standard model and is being produced in just 500 examples. When speaking of the partnership between the team and Hyundai, Sir Bradley Wiggins said, “It’s great to be working with Hyundai this year – the company is a great fit with a really positive spirit and attitude. The diversity of the cars at our disposal has already proved invaluable in the Tour of Yorkshire, and the Santa Fe has been a big hit with the team. I’m very proud to put my name to this limited run of special Team Wiggins Edition models and am looking forward to putting the range through its paces over the summer racing season and beyond.”
With just 500 examples being produced, it is sure to be snatched up quickly – if not by cycling fans in Europe, it will certainly be snatched up by those looking to save a little money over stepping up to the Premium SE trim level. 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe
Hyundai is slightly lacking when it comes to its crossover and SUV roster, which puts a lot of pressure on the Santa Fe to scoop up as many sales as possible in this increasingly popular segment. As such, Hyundai is wisely ramping up production, adding the two-row Santa Fe Sport to its plant in Montgomery, Alabama. More inventory is good, but just as important is an edge against the competition. In order to keep the Santa Fe as fresh as possible, Hyundai just announced a new mid-cycle update for the crossover at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show. On the docket this time around is a new look, new interior equipment, and new technology for safety and convenience.
The Santa Fe first debuted in 2001 as the automaker’s first-ever SUV, and a second generation followed five years later. The model’s current third generation debuted in 2012, and given the widespread circulation of spy shots that preceded the update announcement, there was little question as to what Hyundai had planned for Chicago.
While the update may appear rather mild at first blush, Hyundai says it changed almost 350 individual parts on the Santa Fe Sport – roughly a quarter of the car. Read on to see exactly what that means.

The Hyundai Veracruz once sat in its own spot as Hyundai’s resident three-row, seven-seater SUV, one rung above the Hyundai Santa Fe->https://www.topspeed.com/cars/hyundai-santa_fe/ke1023.html]. Unfortunately, the Veracruz never quite caught on in the market despite having only been around since 2006. Sluggish sales and general indifference towards the model forced Hyundai to discontinue the Veracruz in 2012 to give way to the Grand Santa Fe, a similar three-row, seven-seater SUV that shared most of its architecture with the Santa Fe.
Unfortunately, Hyundai has yet to offer the Grand Santa Fe in the U.S. market, odd considering that the Veracruz was sold in this country during its brief existence. Canada, for what it’s worth, has the Grand Santa Fe, or as it’s called there, the Santa Fe XL. Maybe that’ll change in 2016, but Hyundai has yet to make any announcements on whether that’s going to happen.
What we do know is that a heavily camouflaged Grand Santa Fe was recently spotted doing some test sessions in Germany. These test runs on the German autobahn have intensified speculation that a facelift of the Grand Santa Fe is in the works, following a similar set of spy photos that captured the updated 2016 Santa Fe back in April 2015.
Despite the heavy camouflage on the test mule, Hyundai is unlikely to make any sweeping changes on the seven-seater SUV. In fact, if those spy photos of the 2016 Santa Fe didn’t appear to have any dramatic updates, we can expect the same kind of treatment on the 2016 Grand Santa Fe.

In the crowded world of family-hauling SUVs, there are literally dozens of “me-too” options that scream out with their boring designs and ho-hum driving dynamics. A field of minivan replacments that are packed full of so many compromises that they fail to excel at any single thing. Despite this, there is one crossover that continually surprises me with both its competence and its quality. That is the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport.
The Santa Fe Sport is the smaller, two-row version of the Santa Fe. It competes directly with machines like the Toyota Venza, the Chevrolet Equinox and the Subaru Outback, but it does so with a dash of style and value that those others can’t match. When equipped with the optional 2.0-liter, turbocharged engine, it is also a quick performer.
But this Santa Fe Sport doesn’t have the turbocharged motor. It also doesn’t have AWD. In fact, aside from a few equipment options, this Santa Fe Sport the lowest-trim version you can buy. Will the less-powerful, 2.4-liter engine and lack of AWD ruin my feelings about the car? Without the speed and grip, is it still a good match for those competitors? After a week of driving, and a few hundred miles on the clock, I think I have the answer.

It wasn’t that long ago when Hyundai was relegated as an afterthought company in the auto industry. Those times, though, are all but gone, because the Korean brand has more than become a player in the business, it’s actually established itself as a contender in some markets, including the compact SUV division.
Hyundai can largely thank the Santa Fe for that, and with a new look, new features and options to match, the 2014 Santa Fe Sport is ready to take on the world.
One of the Santa Fe Sport’s new goodies in its 2014 model year is the company’s new Blind Spot Detection system (BSD) and a rear parking assistance system. Those two technological upgrades alone are certainly worth more than the standard lip service.
That aside, the 2014 Santa Fe Sport also boasts a steady diet of upgrades, something Hyundai actively did to ensure that its prized SUV has been given the proper training to duke it out with its rival models.

As with the previous years, Hyundai used New York’s Comic-Con to unveil a new zombie machine. A new, strange-looking Santa Fe joined a very long list of Zombie Survival models, including the recently launched Elantra Coupe and Veloster.
The new Santa Fe Zombie machine was designed by Anson Kuo from Arizona — a fan selected from more than 82,500 submissions. The car he designed was developed by Galpin Auto Sports, and it was on displayed at the New York Comic-Con show floor on October 10th.
The car that Kuo rolled out featured knife blades, an automatic crossbow, razor-wired windows, three machine guns, a samurai sword, aluminum armor and a muffler silencer. Thanks to all these weapons, the Santa Fe becomes a real zombie killer. Also, his Santa Fe features lots of cargo space for supplies and passengers.

Someone at Hyundai must really like western art and turquoise jewelry to keep using this same name. After two years on the market, the 2014 models bring a handful of tech updates to each stylish crossover.
The current Santa Fe comes in three confusing flavors: the original seven-seater, or now a smaller Sante Fe Sport five-seater. And now a LWB version of the base car.
Detail tweaks to equipment are the biggest changes to the SF and the SF LWB. The Technology Packages now offers HID headlights and LED taillights, ventilated front seats and integrated memory seats.
Also, for 2014 all Santa Fe models will offer Hyundai’s Blind Spot Detection system (BSD) and a rear parking assistance system. The last detail update for the 2014 was made on the models equipped with panoramic sunroofs that will now also be equipped with roof rails.
The 2014 Santa Fe will be offered in three configurations: Santa Fe, Santa Fe Sport, and Santa Fe LWB. Prices will be announced at a later date.
Updated 10/22/2014: Hyundai announced prices and a series of small updates for the 2015 Santa Fe. The model will be put on sale with more standard comfort and convenience equipment for 2015, with the biggest update including refinements to the steering and suspension systems. The Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Dee Zee Edition probably won’t get the same buzz as some of the other Hyundai models at the 2012 SEMA Auto Show, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t get some love from us.
Built in collaboration with truck accessory company Dee Zee, the Santa Fe Sport Dee Zee Edition is a prime example of what the new 2013 Santa Fe is capable of becoming with the right mix of custom upgrades.
For this model, Dee Zee wanted to prop the Hyundai SUV as a versatile vehicle that you can take just about anywhere outside of the water. Be it the off-road or the trails, the Santa Fe Sport Dee Zee Edition is primed and ready for action, thanks to the slew of customizations Dee Zee put into it.
A black powder-coated aluminum front bumper bar gives the Santa Fe Sport not just a more menacing stance, but also protection from outside hubris that might victimize a standard type. There are also black power-coated aluminum sidesteps for easier access to and from the interior.
A black roof rack is also prominently featured, which in this case proudly displays the equipment you can bring with you on your outdoor excisions, including a bike rack and a kayak rack.
Finally, Dee Zee went and gave the Santa Fe Sport a new set of Giovanna wheels wrapped in Nitto tires.
The Hyundai Sante Fe entered its third generation for the 2013 model year, and boy was it a big change over the outgoing model. For starters, the crossover features a much larger grille with horizontal slats to go with larger and sportier headlight units. The side profile has also been reworked, bringing more dominating body lines and a much cleaner look. The rear quarter glass now swoops upward and comes to a sharp point near the roof. In the rear, the hatch wraps around the rear quarters more, and the rear glass is much wider than before. The taillights now take on a taller shape and new lens layout. The rear fascia has also been adjusted to give the car a more interesting rear end. Inside, the new Santa Fe could be optioned with a panoramic sunroof and premium window switch trim. Models with three-row seating now have increase legroom for the rear bench and cargo room has been increased by 5.6 cubic feet. Under the hood, you’ll find a range of 2.0-liter or 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines and is available in front- or all-wheel drive.
With a selling price in the range of $24,450 up to $29,450, the Santa Fe came to the market ready to compete against the likes of models like the Nissan Murano and the Ford Flex, but it still has a huge disadvantage: most competing models have V-6 engines available, where the new Santa Fe came with nothing bigger than a 2.4-liter four-cylinder. The Korean automaker Hyundai has brought a refreshed version of their Santa Fe SUV at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. Aside from the all new exterior design the 2010 Santa Fe also offers a number of interior improvements as well as two new fuel efficient engines. From the outside, the mid size SUV wears new bumpers and body moldings, sporty wheels and a new grill as well as a pair of fog lights to give the Santa Fe a much more stylish, dynamic and taut stance according to the new car builder. On the inside Hyundai is offering an assortment of leather and cloth seating surfaces, an Eco Indicator on automatic equipped models and a touch screen navigation system complete with rearview camera and XM NavTraffic, Bluetooth connectivity, iPod/USB auxiliary inputs for MP3 players and audio controls on the steering wheel standard in all models. The 2010 Santa Fe will be powered by either a 2.4 Liter DOHC Theta II four cylinder rated at 175 HP and 169 lb-ft of torque as well as a 3.5 Liter DOHC Lambda II V6 engine making 276 HP and 248 lb-ft of thrust propelling the affordable people mover wherever it’s occupants wish to go.

One of the models Hyundai will unveil at the Paris Auto Show will be the Santa Fe blue Hybrid. The company plans to sell its first hybrid-electric vehicle in its home market of Korea by July 2009. The gas-electric hybrid technology featured in the Santa Fe blue Hybrid reduces CO2 emissions to 148 g/km and delivers a fuel economy of about 39 mpg.
One of the ways Hyundai is maximizing fuel economy is by using a "start-stop" system that is also found on other economy-minded vehicles. Engine control software automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle comes to a halt, cutting emissions to zero. When pressure is reapplied to the accelerator pedal, the Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) automatically restarts the engine. The Theta’s engine control software governing injection pressure, engine cycle timing and exhaust retreatment rates has been revised to further reduce fuel consumption.

The first generation Santa Fe was tying to be everything to everyone. The car wanted to be cute enough for the soccer moms while being aggressive enough to appease the off-road crowd. The resulting car may have looked a little odd, but it was a best seller for Hyundai over its five-year run.
When the second generation hit the market last year, it showed that Hyundai figured out that the best way to make everyone happy was with a sleek design. This car is a step up in every way from the previous generation. It grew to accommodate more seats, more amenities, and even a small increase in price.
The all-new 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe made its North American debut today at the 2006 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). With its segment-leading standard safety technologies, all-new unibody SUV platform, bold new styling, a choice of fuel-efficient V6 powertrains, and Hyundai’s first SUV third-row seat, the Santa Fe becomes a "must-drive" for consumers shopping in the crossover segment.
