2019 Hyundai Veloster N Performance Concept
As if the Hyundai Veloster N isn’t hot enough, Hyundai’s all set to unwrap an even hotter version of the hot hatchback at the 2019 SEMA Auto Show. This new variant is called the Veloster N Performance Concept, and it is a spicy piece created by Hyundai to give Veloster N owners a preview of how the hot hatch could be transformed if it got introduced into the aftermarket world. The Veloster N Performance Concept comes with exterior enhancements, interior upgrades, and technical improvements. In other words, it’s the full cocktail of the tuning world. Unfortunately, don’t expect the Veloster N Performance Concept to make its way to dealerships anytime soon. This concept is strictly for showcase purposes. On that end, the Veloster N Performance Concept will be in attendance at SEMA in Las Vegas, Nevada next month.
2019 Hyundai Veloster Grappler Concept
Hyundai has presented an alternative look at the Veloster, one that puts an off-road spin to the otherwise plucky hatchback. The model, called the Veloster Grappler Concept, is sporty, rugged, and can go anywhere your heart desires. It will be presented at the 2019 SEMA Auto Show, but like most concepts that attend SEMA, there’s no indication that the Veloster Grappler, or even a derivative of the concept, will end up in production. All the same, the Veloster Grappler Concept looks like it’s ready to hit the trails. By the looks of it, the concept would make for a great companion in the outdoors.
2018 Hyundai Ioniq SEMA Ultimate Street Car
The Hyundai Ioniq Electric may not look like a race car, but leave it to Hyundai to create something out of seemingly nothing with the Ioniq Electric 2018 Ultimate Street Car. Developed to defend its 2017 title in the GTE class of the Optima Ultimate Street Car series, this one-off Ioniq Electric isn’t for the faint of heart. It looks the part of a race car. It’s fitted with a number of racing components. Most importantly, it’s the recipient of an electric motor transplant from the Hyundai Kona, giving it the juice to compete against the likes of Chevrolet Bolt EV and the Tesla Model S P100D. The Hyundai Ioniq Electric is scheduled to compete in the last two races of the 2018 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational.
2018 Hyundai Veloster SEMA Ultimate Street Car
Prepared to compete at the Optima Batteries’ 2018 Search for the Ultimate Street Car, Hyundai unveiled an all-new special Veloster N. It will enter the Optima Batteries GTC class and compete at the last two events of the year. The reasoning behind this new special edition Veloster N is straightforward. Hyundai is about to reveal the performance-focused Veloster N in the U.S. Generating hype by competing in events like this can only further the cause of linking the Veloster N name with performance and excitement.
"The OPTIMA Search for the Ultimate Street Car competition is the perfect venue to allow Hyundai to showcase its expanding performance envelope and introduce the N-brand vehicles to performance enthusiasts," said Joshua Vedder, Senior Group Manager, Customer Connect, Hyundai Motor America. "The vehicles are modified in a way that mirrors a typical enthusiast – gripper tires and suspension, increased power, etc.; and then tested in this severe environment. This is one way we ensure our vehicle will exceed our customers’ expectations."
Apart from the new specially prepared racing Veloster N, Hyundai unveiled an awesome Ioniq with the drivetrain from the Kona Electric. That one will try to defend the title it won at the 2017 National Championship in the GTE class. Nevertheless, we are focused now on the Veloster N as it did receive some serious upgrades over the streetcar that will come soon to our market, but it remain a street-legal machine.
Applying much the same magic as to the stunning i30 N, Hyundai translated the Veloster N into a car capable of competing with the likes of the Civic Type R, the Golf GTI, and the Focus ST, among others. We have been expecting the Veloster N for some time. Actually, ever since we saw that stunning mid-engine Veloster with a 2.0-liter, 296-horsepower turbocharged engine back in 2014.
Hyundai Gives Us A First Look At Two Of Its SEMA-Bound Projects
With the 2018 SEMA Auto Show a month away, Hyundai is getting the anticipation started by unveiling modified versions of the Veloster N and the Ioniq Electric sedan. Hyundai created the two one-off models not only to showcase their aftermarket potential but to compete in Optima Batteries’ 2018 Search for the Ultimate Street Car. The Ioniq Electric will defend its 2017 National Championship in the GTE class while the Veloster N will compete in the top GTC class. Both cars will compete in the last two Ultimate Street Car events as part of Hyundai’s plan to use the two vehicles to “collect data on multiple tracks across the country to aid in development and validation.”
2017 Hyundai Vaccar Tucson Sport Concept
First introduced in 2004, the Hyundai Tucson quickly became one of the company’s most popular vehicles. A more modern, second-generation model was launched in 2009, while the third-gen version was unveiled for the 2016 model year. This time around designed by Peter Schreyer, the Tucson adopted the company’s latest design language and a more upscale interior. A favorite among many tuners for SEMA Show projects, the Tucson is set to return to the event in 2017 with a comprehensive upgrade developed by Hyundai and Vaccar.
The already eye-catching crossover was overhauled inside and out for this project. Gifted with many race-inspired design elements, a custom paint job, a luxurious interior, and many drivetrain upgrades, the Vaccar Tucson Sport concept was conceived to demonstrate that the small crossover has great potential when it comes to performance upgrades. However, this doesn’t mean that Hyundai is planning a performance-oriented model, so don’t get your hopes up on seeing it in showrooms. As disappointing as it may sound, the Vaccar Sport concept is worthy of your attention as it can provide valuable hints if you’re looking to modify your Tucson in the future.

2017 Hyundai BTR Edition Elantra Sport Concept
The Hyundai Elantra is getting a SEMA makeover, and it looks, well, you be the judge. After seeing the overhaul Blood Type Racing gave to the Elantra, it’s clear that this isn’t your mom’s daily driver anymore.
The creation is officially called the BTR Edition Elantra Sport Concept, and it’s the result of yet another collaboration between the Korean automaker and Blood Type Racing. You may remember the latter from a separate build it did for the Ford Focus ST that’s also heading to SEMA, but the company’s involvement with Hyundai actually stretches for a few years now. Back in 2014, the company created a program for the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and followed that up a year later with one for the Hyundai Veloster. This year it’s the Elantra’s turn in the spotlight, and it’s getting a slew of modifications that range from a new aerodynamic body kit all the way to tweaked suspension. The end result speaks for itself, as the Elantra has transformed into something you’re more likely to see on the set of a Fast and Furious production than the parking lot of your local Barnes and Noble.

2017 Hyundai HyperEconiq Ioniq
In 2017, Korean brand Hyundai unveiled its highly anticipated competitor for the Toyota Prius. It’s called the Ioniq; it features a sporty design and a premium interior, and a drivetrain that rivals that of the Prius in terms of performance and efficiency. Hyundai also launched an all-electric version, but very soon we may also see a performance-oriented model hit the market. However, the latter may not come from Hyundai, but from tuning company Bisimoto Engineering, which just unveiled a souped-up Ioniq ahead of the 2017 SEMA Show.
While this tuning brand makes a living from developing and selling aftermarket updates for a range of cars, including the Dodge Viper and Porsche 911, it’s quite famous for rolling spectacular concept cars at every SEMA show in recent years. And the U.S.-based brand has made a passion for Hyundai, preparing beefed-up versions of just about every important model made by the Korean company. This year will be the year of the Ioniq, which was turned into an innovative concept that integrates "the best hypermiling, economy and friction technologies" for enhanced fuel economy and drivability. 2017 Hyundai Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-Roader Santa Fe Sport Concept
The Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is probably not the first SUV people would think of as full-fledged off-road marauder. It’s not the SUV’s fault for having that image. It is what it is. But what if there was a way to turn the Santa Fe Sport into precisely the kind of SUV that can plow through the outdoors with relative ease? It’s a fascinating idea, one that Hyundai is bringing to life with the Hyundai Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-Roader Santa Fe Sport Concept.
It’s got an obscenely long name, but make no mistake, this Santa Fe Sport Concept is more than just a grocery hauler. On the contrary, it’s been designed to handle any kind of terrain and withstand all the conditions that Mother Nature can throw its way. Even at first glance, the Rockstar Energy Moab Extreme Off-Roader Santa Fe Sport Concept looks nothing like its standard Santa Fe counterpart. For one, it sits so far off the ground that it can fit those massive Mickey Thompson 35x12.50R17 Baja MTZ off-road tires. Then there’s the matter of the SUV getting dressed up in sick camo, not to mention all the extra accessories it gets that allow it to perform its function as a legitimate beast of the outdoors. Rest assured, this is one Santa Fe that you wouldn’t want to see in your rear-view mirrors.

Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Sets Speed Record At Bonneville Salt Flats
Hybrid power is in a weird in-between state at the moment. On one side of the equation, you have insane spaceship-esque performance cars like the McLaren P1, Ferrari LaFerrari, and Porsche 918 Spyder. On the other side, you have calm, cool, collected commuter-mobiles like the Hyundai Ioniq. The question is how do you bridge these two philosophies? Both pair electrification with internal combustion, but the gulf between them seems impassable. Luckily, Hyundai is on the case, having set a new land speed record by going 157.825 mph in a specially modified Ioniq four-door.
“Our engineering team really pushed the limits to set this new segment benchmark while demonstrating the impressive durability of the entire Ioniq vehicle platform,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president of Corporate and Product Planning at Hyundai Motor America. “We expect this will be the first of many accolades for Ioniq.”
The effort was spearheaded by Hyundai Motor America’s Engineering and Quality Team (U.S.A.! U.S.A.!), which was so impressed with the car’s overall quality when it was first received, it decided to go for a land speed record.
The official record set was for production-based hybrid vehicles, as approved by the FIA. And although the official record is just under 158 mph, the race car actually peaked out at 160.7 mph.

2016 Hyundai Tucson Night
Hyundai introduced the third-generation Tucson at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show as a 2016 model. This new generation brought some much-needed change to the Tucson’s overall character with highlights including a new, hexagonal grille, reworked fascias that were both more aggressive and sportier in nature over the previous generation, restyled exterior lights, and it comes complete in a larger package, which ultimately meant more passenger space and cargo room. The interior was fancied up with new soft-touch materials and a more premium look and new technology. But, consumers are never really happy, so Hyundai found it necessary to use its booth at SEMA to introduce this new trim level for the Tucson range. Dubbed the “NIGHT,” this model follows suit with other manufacturers that have been capitalizing on consumers’ strange preoccupation with darker themes on cars – prompting the market to be flooded with various “black-edition” models from all over the globe.
For Hyundai’s part in creating a dark-themed vehicle, it actually kept things rather mild and added just the right modifications to help make the Tucson NIGHT stand out just a bit among its non-dark brethren. This new model will be available in just a handful of exterior colors and includes a few updates to spruce up the interior and exterior. No pricing has been announced yet, but given the nature of the upgrades, I wouldn’t expect too much of a premium over and of the other standard models. But, we’ll talk more about that a little later. 2016 Hyundai Road Racer Elantra Concept By ARK
SEMA is creeping up on us almost as fast as winter, and manufacturers are starting to preview some pretty awesome concepts ahead of their official debut. Today we’re here to talk about the Hyundai Road Racer Elantra Concept that was put together through a partnership between Hyundai and ARK. The Elantra is far from anything that resembles a tuner car, but ARK has somehow managed to turn this little family hauling sedan into a decent looking tuner. Of course, it wasn’t easy, but ARK added things like a custom turbo kit, new downpipe and exhaust system, full coil-over suspension, a wide body kit, a nice set of wheels, and a full vinyl wrap, among other things, to create the wildest looking Elantra that you’ll probably ever see.
Kevin Bentley, the developer of the ARK Elantra Concept, said, “ARK Performance knows the Hyundai brand almost as well as our own. We strive to leverage the superb product development of Hyundai engineers, building upon their expertise while offering something really special to enthusiasts. The ARK Road Racer Elantra Concept offers the specific model enhancements that our customers have come to expect from ARK.”

2016 Hyundai Veloster Concept By Gurnade
Lately, Hyundai hasn’t been holding anything back in its efforts to build up a little extra performance cred. Late last month at the Paris Motor Show, we got a look at the RN30, a race-ready hatchback based on the i30 that’s simply begging for a street-legal production model. With the Paris Motor Show now come and gone, the South Korean brand is shifting its focus to Las Vegas for the annual SEMA Show. Last week, we got our first taste of what Hyundai will be bringing to the desert with the absurdly awesome Santa Fast by Bisimoto, and now, it appears as though there’ll be a modded Veloster hatchback in attendance as well. This latest creation is simply called the Veloster Concept by Gurnade, and it’s got a slew of upgrades that are sure to please the SEMA crowd, including a slammed stance, custom exterior styling, and a few extra ponies under the hood.
In case you were unaware, Gurnade is an automotive design and concept rendering company based out of Austin, Texas. “Gurnade has always been drawn to the uniquely aggressive lines of the production Veloster. So when Hyundai approached us with the opportunity to develop one of their vehicles for SEMA, we didn’t hesitate to create the Gurnade Veloster Concept,” says Joshua Cloud, owner of Gurnade, Inc.
As you might expect, the Veloster Concept is primarily focused on show over go, but it’s still an interesting package for fans of the South Korean brand’s sporty little three-door. Read on for all the details.

2016 Hyundai Santa-Fast By Bisimoto
Per tradition, SEMA is shaping up to be one helluva show this year, with all kinds of outrageous custom autos heading to the Las Vegas desert for a spot in the limelight. Whatever your preferred flavor might be, SEMA is sure to have something there for ya, from domestic muscle cars to tuner-special imports, lifted off-roaders to high-strung exotics. SEMA has a little bit of everything, which means it’s not always easy to stand out from the crowd. One surefire workaround is to mash together opposite ends of the automotive spectrum – you know, like blessing a Hyundai Santa Fe with over 1,000 horsepower. No, seriously.
It’s called the Santa-Fast, and rightfully so, given the SUV’s four-figure output number. Taking responsibility for creating this thing is Bisimoto Engineering, the same company that brought a 700-horsepower Hyundai Tucson to last year’s event. Hyundai called it absurd, which kinda makes you wonder what the automaker thinks of the Santa-Fast…
But I digress. The Santa-Fast is classic SEMA stuff, and definitely worth a look, even if it’s just to figure out how Bisimoto managed to coax 1,000 horsepower from a Santa Fe…

2016 Hyundai Rockstar Santa Fe Concept
You know the 2016 SEMA Auto Show is approaching when you start seeing automakers drop press releases about wild iterations of its vehicles. And so, we find ourselves with one of the first gnarly custom jobs that’s headed to Las Vegas. It’s called the Hyundai Rockstar Santa Fe Concept and it is glorious.
Step back for a second and take in what used to be a mild-mannered crossover that has since been turned to an off-roading marauder. Notice how it’s been raised up and fitted with those massive 35-inch Baja tires? That was all part of Rockstar’s plan when it partnered with Hyundai to work on this Santa Fe. It also comes with a bevy of new features, both of the useful and cosmetic varieties, all of which were installed to give the Santa the unilateral purpose of driving on any road condition it finds itself in.
Obviously, it’s unlikely that we’ll see the Rockstar Santa Fe hit the streets anytime soon, but given what Rockstar was able to pull off – it even has a nitrous oxide injection system! – I wouldn’t be able to blame anybody who takes a good look at this beauty and demands Hyundai to send it into production, even in a limited edition capacity.
