To grab a piece of the hatchback market, Hyundai used its FS platform, which also underpins the Kia Forte and Pro cee’d, to launch the Veloster for the 2012 model year. In 2013, the Veloster Turbo arrived as an alternative to the likes of the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Ford Focus ST. Although it failed to impress against such stiff competition, the Turbo only received a mild facelift and a new, seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission.
But while the standard Turbo and the R-Spec model carried over mostly unchanged as far as underpinnings go, Hyundai used the Veloster’s facelift to introduce an all-new trim level. Dubbed the Rally Edition, this hatch is essentially a Turbo R-Spec model fitted with a host of chassis and body upgrades, making it the sportiest member of the Veloster family as of 2016.
Don’t let the name fool you though, this hatch is far from being a rally car for the road, and it’s in no way related to the i30 WRC. However, it’s the company’s best attempt yet at creating a competitor for the Golf GTI, and for Hyundai, a step toward becoming a more important player in the segment.

Hyundai might not be among the automakers you should consider when buying a high-performance vehicle, but the South Korean brand is known for rigs like the i20 WRC. Based on the i20 supermini built in countries like Turkey or India, the WRC is the first high-performance car created by the new "N" sub-brand.
The 300 horsepower squeezed out of the 1.6-liter engine proves Hyundai is enjoying great progress and likely previews a bunch of cool, road-going cars that are scheduled to arrive over the next few years. If you think the i20 WRC is an awesome machine, then you will be delighted to find that Hyundai built yet another semi-exotic vehicle.
It goes by the name Veloster Midship, and surfaced at the 2014 Busan Motor Show in South Korea. Unlike the regular Veloster, this model has its powerplant mounted where the rear seats should be. What’s more, Hyundai ditched the 1.6-liter four-pot found in the production car for a larger, 2.0-liter Theta GDI unit. If you’re not familiar with it, the 2.0 GDI motivates the Kia Forte, Hyundai Sonata and Hyundai Santa Fe.
But make no mistake, the Midship’s plant is anything but regular. The Koreans did some tweaking and forced it to generate 295 horsepower. Pair that amount of oomph with a lightweight, aluminum suspension and a more rigid chassis, and you’re looking at some sort of super-hatchback.

The Hyundai Veloster continues to grow up right before our eyes. First was the Turbo model, then came the R-Spec, and now Hyundai has introduced the RE:FLEX Edition, which it is limiting to only 3,000 units. Sure, it does not have the performance credentials of the other two variants, but it does add all sorts of goodies to the up-and-coming hatchback.
The RE:FLEX Edition starts off by adding in projector headlights with LED accents, LED taillights, a set of 18-inch alloys with a PVD chrome finish, chrome hood accents and door handles, some red and black "RE:FLEX Edition" badges, and a set of fog lights. The mods are not overwhelming by any means on this new special edition, but they are just enough to really make it pop, particularly the rims and door handles.
Buyers can choose from five colors, one of which is exclusive to the RE:FLEX model. These colors include Ice Pearl (exclusive to the RE:MIX), Century White, Vitamin C, Ultra Black and Boston Red. I am not a huge fan of white cars, but that Ice Pearl is pretty sharp.
Don’t go thinking the mods stop there. Nope, Hyundai then moved its focus to the cabin where it added in the Style Package, which includes piano-black accents, thumping 450-watt audio system with eight speakers, leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter, alloy pedals and auto-up driver-side window. Also included are RE:FLEX Edition floor mats. Yeah, there’s nothing exclusive inside the cabin, but these extra goodies help make buying the whole package an easier pill to swallow.
Under its hood, the Veloster RE:FLEX gets the typical 1.6-liter, four-cylinder that produces just 138 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. Fortunately, Hyundai did add one cool feature to the drivetrain, and that’s the six-speed EcoShift dual-clutch transmission. Despite the addition of the EcoShift DCT, the Veloster RE:MIX is still god-awful slow with an estimated 0-to-60 time in excess of 10 seconds. I think it’s about time to scrap the 1.6-liter engine in favor of the 2.0-liter from the 2014 Elantra Sport.
Updated 06/02/2014: Hyundai today announced prices for the Veloster RE:FLEX Edition which is now available at dealers. Prices will start from $21,650, excluding $810 freight, and includes all of the Veloster DCT Style Package equipment excluding the panoramic roof.

More than just being one of the biggest automakers in the world these days, Hyundai is also pretty adept at preparing for the apocalypse. Whereas other companies aren’t as involved when it comes to gearing up for the day zombies roam this planet, the Korean automaker has been doing the opposite for the past few years.
Hyundai has already released a handful of zombie-prepared vehicles in the past and at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, it introduced its latest survival vehicle. It’s called the Hyundai Tucson Walking Dead Edition, and as the name clearly says, this special edition SUV is based on the hit AMC show.
For its color, Hyundai opted to use an Ash Black shade for the exterior with matching red accents and some dedicated graphics, including four unique decals featuring factions - Hilltop, Kingdom, Saviors and Survivors - from the graphic novel-inspired show.
Inside, the special edition Tucson receives black leather seats, custom floor mats, and a seven-inch touchscreen display with a special The Walking Dead splash screen. A "Zombie Survival Kit" is also part of the package, which has a host of cool items, like a survivalist backpack and a Walking Dead Tucson Quick Reference Guide.

With the supposed dawn of the zombie apocalypse upon us, the world is conjuring up ways on how to survive the human race’s impending doom.
Last year, Hyundai took the task of introducing a specially built 2012 Elantra that it described as the ultimate "Zombie Survival Machine" that could, theoretically, at least, save some lives.
This year, Hyundai and Galpin Auto Sports are presenting another vehicle that promises the same thing. It won’t be an Elantra this time; it’s going to be a Hyundai Veloster, or as the automaker prefers calling it, the Veloster Zombie Survival Machine.
The car is born from the same collaboration of Future US and The Walking Dead that gave us the Elantra Zombie Survival Machine and as the San Diego Comic Con opened its doors yesterday, the Veloster Zombie Survival Machine was there to greet everyone primed and ready for action.
In addition to the car itself, the project will also come with a new iPhone app called The Walking Dead Chop Shop that allows users the ability to design their own Veloster Zombie Survival Machine.
Anybody who submits a design will have a chance to have their creations built and unveiled at the 2013 New York Comic-Con.

Hyundai UK has announced that the new Veloster Turbo SE will be available on the market starting September 24th at a starting price of £21,995 ($34,800). The model will be offered in a standard White Crysta exterior paint, but an optional Phantom Black (Pearl) and a Matte Grey finish can be ordered for £445 ($704 at the current rates) and £525 ($830 at the current rates), respectively. A tilt and slide Panoramic sunroof is also available for £950 ($1,500).
The new Veloster Turbo SE will be offered with a 1.6-liter T-GDI turbocharged engine that delivers a total of 184 HP and 195 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission, the model will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 8.4 seconds and up to a top speed of 133 mph.
On the front end, the Veloster gets a new front bumper, radiator grille, and front fog lights, while the rear adds a revised bumper, a new fog lamp design, round twin exhausts, and diffuser. The car sits on a new set of standard 18-inch alloy wheels with chrome inserts. For the interior, Hyundai is offering redesigned leather seats with grey panels, Hyundai’s 7-inch touchscreen satellite navigation system, and, of course, "Turbo" logos embossed on the driver’s and passenger’s seats.
Hyundai has put together a special edition Genesis Coupe in order to celebrate the company’s participation at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring race this year. Don’t get too excited though, this special edition will only be made available to the German market. The new model, called the Genesis Coupe GT, will be limited to only 50 units and carries a price tag of 41,990 Euro, or about $59,800 at the current exchange rates.
This special edition sports silver and blue livery and a new set of 19" OZ wheels wrapped in Dunlop Sport Maxx GT tires. A new sports suspension also found its way to the special edition and drops the car’s ride by about 30mm. Joining the sports suspension is a brand new sports exhaust with 4 outputs integrated into the new rear bumper. Under the hood, there is a 3.8-liter V6 engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission that together deliver a total of 303 HP.
Technically, this is not the first time the Hyundai Genesis will be wearing Prada, but it seems that people enjoyed the whole collaboration between the Korean automaker and the Italian fashion house.
For this installment, Hyundai used a 2012 Genesis and is positioning it as one of the most luxurious models the company has ever built. Aesthetically, the Genesis Prada will be offered in three colors – Black Nero, Blue Baltico, and Brown Moro – and will include a host of other items, including distinguishable dark chrome accents, a new “shark-fin” antenna, a limited Genesis Prada badge and GP500 emblem, and a set of 19” alloy wheels. Inside, the Genesis Prada will be dressed with “Saffiano” leather – Prada’s signature top quality leather - upholstery with a piano black trim and a new rear entertainment system.
As for performance, the Genesis Prada will be powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces 424 horsepower and 376 lb/ft of torque and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Hyundai will be offering the Genesis Prada through customized personal orders. The initial plan is to have only 1,200 units of the car, distributed mostly in the Korean market with a limited number of models headed to the rest of Asia and the Middle East.
Collaborations between auto manufacturers and designer brands are nothing new. It seems that every time a partnership is announced, you can bet that another one will make the headlines sooner rather than later.
Hyundai is jumping into the picture after announcing a special edition series of models for the i10 and the i20. The two special edition models were each given their own makeover, complete with individualized color combinations and exclusive features that aren’t present in other models.
Fiorucci first worked on the i10 city car, giving it a host of color combinations to choose from. These colors include Stone Black, Deep Blue Ocean, Oyster Gray, Sleek Silver, and Crystal White. The colors are also present on the car’s interior upholstery and are likewise complimented on the outside by a colorful grille and side mirror caps that come in a choice of two colors: verde lime or fuscia.
Apart from the special colors, the i10 Fiorucci edition also comes with its fair share of other features including a Park Assist system, a retractable soft-top, and a 1.1-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 66 horsepower.
In addition to the i10, Fioruccio also took a stab at making over the i20 supermini. Similar to the i10, the i20 is given five different color options, including Black Diamond, Dark Gray, Sleek Silver, Blue Spark, and Crystal White.
As for the i20’s interior, Fioruccio gave it a black and orange two-tone theme, a pair of glass sunroofs, a Park Assist system, and a 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 78 horsepower.
Pricing for the two special edition vehicles goes at €10,990 ($15,300) for the i10 and €14,990 ($21,000) for the i20.
Hyundai’s position as the official car supplier of the 2010 FIFA World Cup affords it a few privileges, not the least of which is building two football-themed Hyundai i10’s without the repercussions of being ridiculed.
Actually, the two cars look pretty snazzy decked in artificial turf with a number of other football-inspired paraphernalia, including side mirrors made from cleats, rims made out of soccer balls, and goal posts on the bonnet. Oh, and we haven’t even mentioned the humongous 1.5-meter football on the roof. The interiors of these two vehicles include the first one containing the turf material found on the outside while the second vehicle comes with a football inspired theme complete with football headrests.
The two i10s will be used in many promotional stints throughout Hyundai’s marketing campaign on the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Everything adds up to becoming a football fanatics’ dream car, one in which these people would probably proudly drive around town in. To each their own, right?
Usually the devil wears Prada, but in this case, the Genesis wears it. Hyundai collaborated with the famous Italian luxury goods maker to develop this special edition "Genesis Prada" that was revealed at the Seoul Motor Show today.
