This, my friends, gave us the perfect opportunity to see how the Veloster Turbo holds water against models like the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Honda Civic Sport Touring. Hyundai N’s hot hatch gets a hotter treatment

As if the Hyundai Veloster N isn’t hot enough, Hyundai’s all set to unwrap an even hotter version of the hot hatchback at the 2019 SEMA Auto Show. This new variant is called the Veloster N Performance Concept, and it is a spicy piece created by Hyundai to give Veloster N owners a preview of how the hot hatch could be transformed if it got introduced into the aftermarket world. The Veloster N Performance Concept comes with exterior enhancements, interior upgrades, and technical improvements. In other words, it’s the full cocktail of the tuning world. Unfortunately, don’t expect the Veloster N Performance Concept to make its way to dealerships anytime soon. This concept is strictly for showcase purposes. On that end, the Veloster N Performance Concept will be in attendance at SEMA in Las Vegas, Nevada next month.

Hyundai has presented an alternative look at the Veloster, one that puts an off-road spin to the otherwise plucky hatchback. The model, called the Veloster Grappler Concept, is sporty, rugged, and can go anywhere your heart desires. It will be presented at the 2019 SEMA Auto Show, but like most concepts that attend SEMA, there’s no indication that the Veloster Grappler, or even a derivative of the concept, will end up in production. All the same, the Veloster Grappler Concept looks like it’s ready to hit the trails. By the looks of it, the concept would make for a great companion in the outdoors.

2019 Hyundai Veloster N TCR

The i30 N TCR will still be available and will race head-to-head with the Veloster

Hyundai will switch from the i30 N TCR to the Veloster N TCR for 2019 and aims at continued success in the Blancpain GT World Challenge TCR division as well as IMSA’s Michelin Pilot Challenge series. The new car will be offered through Bryan Herta Autosport in the U.S. for just $155,000 plus shipping charges.

Hyundai has ramped up its motorsport presence in the past few years. They’ve taken on the World Rally Championship and, more recently, entered the highly popular TCR scene with thei30 N hatchback. The car proved successful in both the World Touring Car Cup and the U.S.-bound Blancpain GT World Challenge.

After taking the team’s title this season the TCR class, Bryan Herta Autosport will offer the i30 N TCR’s replacement, based on the Veloster N platform, next year as a turn-key option for aspiring privateers. What is more, Hyundai will back teams competing in both IMSA-sanctioned and USAC-sanctioned championships next year.

The company’s second N model is coming to the U.S.!

Introduced in 2011, the Hyundai Veloster replaced the Tiburon (known as the Coupe in other markets) in the United States. Essentially a hybrid between a hatchback and a coupe, the Veloster is available in a three-door configuration only and uses small-displacement four-cylinder engines exclusively. Offered in base and Turbo trim, the Veloster can now be ordered with the N upgrade following its second-generation redesign. The higher-performance variant crafted by the still-new N division is the first beefed-up Hyundai offered in the U.S.

Previewed by a series of concept cars with mid-engined configurations, the high-performance Veloster debuted alongside the standard hatchback at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. Both boast sportier styling, new technology, and improved engines, but the N model also sports a number of aggressive aerodynamic updates, exclusive features inside the cabin, and turbocharged engine powerful enough to give the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Ford Focus ST a run for their money.

Special Race Car To Announce The Upcoming Hyundai Veloster N

Prepared to compete at the Optima Batteries’ 2018 Search for the Ultimate Street Car, Hyundai unveiled an all-new special Veloster N. It will enter the Optima Batteries GTC class and compete at the last two events of the year. The reasoning behind this new special edition Veloster N is straightforward. Hyundai is about to reveal the performance-focused Veloster N in the U.S. Generating hype by competing in events like this can only further the cause of linking the Veloster N name with performance and excitement.

"The OPTIMA Search for the Ultimate Street Car competition is the perfect venue to allow Hyundai to showcase its expanding performance envelope and introduce the N-brand vehicles to performance enthusiasts," said Joshua Vedder, Senior Group Manager, Customer Connect, Hyundai Motor America. "The vehicles are modified in a way that mirrors a typical enthusiast – gripper tires and suspension, increased power, etc.; and then tested in this severe environment. This is one way we ensure our vehicle will exceed our customers’ expectations."

Apart from the new specially prepared racing Veloster N, Hyundai unveiled an awesome Ioniq with the drivetrain from the Kona Electric. That one will try to defend the title it won at the 2017 National Championship in the GTE class. Nevertheless, we are focused now on the Veloster N as it did receive some serious upgrades over the streetcar that will come soon to our market, but it remain a street-legal machine.

Applying much the same magic as to the stunning i30 N, Hyundai translated the Veloster N into a car capable of competing with the likes of the Civic Type R, the Golf GTI, and the Focus ST, among others. We have been expecting the Veloster N for some time. Actually, ever since we saw that stunning mid-engine Veloster with a 2.0-liter, 296-horsepower turbocharged engine back in 2014.

It’s fun to imagine a world where this version of the Veloster exists

The second-generation Hyundai Veloster made its debut at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. As expected, the Korean automaker put in a lot of work to differentiate the punchy hatchback from its predecessor. The new Veloster’s design still jumps out of the page, but it’s not as funky as the first-gen model that had all sorts of curves and weird edges on it. The tamer-looking second-gen Veloster is more appealing to look at. That car has already been well-received by the public, and the same thing should happen once the new Veloster hits dealerships.

But as good as the new Veloster looks like, can you imagine what a drop-top version could look like if Hyundai decided to build one? It’s unlikely that the company will go that route, but if it did, who’d be excited to see a Veloster Cabrio? Is it something you’d want to be seen driving in? The second-gen three-door offers style and fun without breaking the bank

First introduced in 2011 at the Detroit Auto Show, the Hyundai Veloster initially hit the scene as a replacement for the Hyundai Tiburon, the FWD 2+2 coupe built between 1996 and 2008. By contrast, the Veloster changed it up with a funky hatchback profile and 2+1 door layout (one on the driver’s side, two on the passenger’s side). In a segment filled to the brim with hard-hitting, well-established competition, the Veloster is a bit of an upstart, shaking things up with a unique attitude that still manages to make fun-behind-the-wheel a top priority. Throughout its life cycle, we’ve seen a wide variety of custom takes on the Veloster, but now, Hyundai is offering up a whole new second generation. Once again making its debuts at the Detroit Auto Show, the latest 2019 model year brings with it a variety of models and trim levels, including the base model, and the mid-grade Turbo and R-Spec models. There’s even a go-faster N version if that happens to be more your speed (check out our full review on the 2019 Hyundai Veloster N). Just as it was before, the new Veloster once again aims at catching the eye of enthusiasts, with a focus on making the whole package more engaging, both in terms of aesthetics and in terms of the driving experience. The latest model year also comes with a good bit upgraded infotainment stuff as well.

Low, wide, and dressed to impress

Lately, Hyundai hasn’t been holding anything back in its efforts to build up a little extra performance cred. Late last month at the Paris Motor Show, we got a look at the RN30, a race-ready hatchback based on the i30 that’s simply begging for a street-legal production model. With the Paris Motor Show now come and gone, the South Korean brand is shifting its focus to Las Vegas for the annual SEMA Show. Last week, we got our first taste of what Hyundai will be bringing to the desert with the absurdly awesome Santa Fast by Bisimoto, and now, it appears as though there’ll be a modded Veloster hatchback in attendance as well. This latest creation is simply called the Veloster Concept by Gurnade, and it’s got a slew of upgrades that are sure to please the SEMA crowd, including a slammed stance, custom exterior styling, and a few extra ponies under the hood.

In case you were unaware, Gurnade is an automotive design and concept rendering company based out of Austin, Texas. “Gurnade has always been drawn to the uniquely aggressive lines of the production Veloster. So when Hyundai approached us with the opportunity to develop one of their vehicles for SEMA, we didn’t hesitate to create the Gurnade Veloster Concept,” says Joshua Cloud, owner of Gurnade, Inc.

As you might expect, the Veloster Concept is primarily focused on show over go, but it’s still an interesting package for fans of the South Korean brand’s sporty little three-door. Read on for all the details.

The limited-production model brings a number of interior and exterior enhancements to the Veloster

Hyundai wanted to make a special edition model of its sporty Veloster, and there was no better way than to start with the Veloster Series II SR Turbo +. The special edition appears to be void of any performance upgrades, but there are a number of enhancements that are exclusive to this model – a package that Hyundai claims is worth $3,000. There is a unique exterior paint, lots of painted inserts or body panel enhancements, and even a little interior work to set things off on the inside as well. Like other special edition models we’ve seen lately there isn’t anything wildly dramatic, but the SR Turbo + was already a pretty wild little hatchback with 201 horsepower anyway, so the Korean manufacturer already had a good starting foundation.

Being launched as a new model in 2011 for the 2012 model year, the Veloster has already been around for about five years and received its first mid-cycle update for the 2016 model year. With the update in 2016, we were a little disappointed to learn that, in typical Hyundai fashion, there were no power output increases for the car that just wants to dominate the hot hatch market. On the other hand, the car did receive a sporty, dual-clutch gearbox to go with its six-speed manual, so it did have that going for it.

With that said, this special edition model is based on the facelifted first-gen model, so it does feature the mild updates that came with the update. But, more important is the extras that come along with the special edition model. Let’s take a look and see what they are.

Tuner-car looks for Hyundai’s funky hatchback

There’s a secret recipe to creating a successful sporty compact coupe. It’s all about striking just the right balance, between attitude, style, practicality, performance and economy. The Hyundai Veloster Turbo aims to hit that perfect balance, while still remaining affordable enough for the average entry-level buyer.

Of course, the bar for "entry-level" has been moved up in recent years, thanks to dramatic improvements in quality and materials for price-leading cars. The Veloster has risen with the tide as well; it’s rolling with a high-efficiency, high-output engine, excellent interior materials and even high-fashion matte paint jobs, in certain models. The Veloster Turbo Rally Edition adds a level of exclusivity to the scheme, with a production run of 1200, improved handling and high-visibility styling. That’s not a bad deal for just over $20,000.

Affordable, sporty compacts that aren’t just hot-hatched versions of existing economy cars are surprisingly thin on the ground; the Veloster and Scion tC are just about the only ones in this price bracket. With so little competition, does the Veloster Turbo have to work that hard?
