Stanford University put together a study based on millions of images from Google Street View and voting\demographic data to come up with a shocking but expected result: Trump supporters (Republicans) love their big trucks while areas that voted for Hillary (Democrats) have significantly more sedans. And, to top it off, the Toyota Prius is the most popular car in San Francisco – pretty much the liberal capital of the world and one of the smuggest places you can visit. Big surprise here, right?

As technology evolves we, as humans, become more and more physically disconnected from one another. GM is now pushing that one step further bring it’s new “Marketplace” commerce system to its infotainment systems. The system is designed to allow drivers to redeem gas coupons, order food, pay for coffee, pretty much anything you would usually have to get out of your car and interact with people to do now. GM has partnered with a few companies, including Dunkin’ Donuts, TGI Fridays, Shell, and ExxonMobil, among others. The system will be included in all new vehicles and updated OTA to vehicles on the road that are compatible. But, this isn’t all gravy as it will lead to things that aren’t so cool. Set to arrive in 2018!

Although it received a new name for the 2016 model year, switching from M- to GLE-Class, Mercedes’ current midsize SUV is far from new. Sure, the facelift brought many updates inside and out, but the truth is that the GLE is already six years old as of 2017 and a bit long in the tooth. But this will change soon, as Mercedes-Benz is already testing prototypes of the next-generation model on public roads. The high-performance AMG GLE63 is the latest version to make contact with our paparazzi, on the iconic Nurburgring track.

The new GLE is set to gain numerous and important updates, most coming from the E-Class sedan, on which it is based on. The AMG version will get similar upgrades, including an almost identical drivetrain to the AMG E63 four-door. There will be a big tech update, as well as significant gains in the performance department, due to a lighter curb weight and a more powerful drivetrain. Details are still under wraps as of this writing, but the upcoming GLE63 isn’t much of a mystery since we already know everything about the AMG E63 sedan. Join me in my speculative review to find out more about this high-performance SUV.

Tesla Finally Gives Early Model 3 Owners a Radio and a Trip Odometer

Its time to right a few wrongs, don’t you think?

The Tesla Model 3 has already been criticized for being pretty basic, but the biggest criticism it got was that there was no GM radio and no odometer – two basic features that have been around for decades in every car produced. Well, with standard over-the-air updates, Tesla has finally added a trip odometer and FM radio. Whether or not these were originally intended to be paid options in the future, or simply overlooked remains to be seen, and even sounds a little absurd to have to question, but they are now considered standard equipment, which makes the latest OTA and win-win. In addition to these two features, the OTA update also brings in new apps that providing information on energy consumption and tire pressure monitoring. And, it also gets the “easy entry and exit” feature found on the Tesla Model S and Model X.

Remember, current Model 3 owners are, for the most part, Tesla employees or “members of the family” that were able to purchase early examples in order to give near-immediate feedback, but customer deliveries are expected to kick off by the turn of the year. Customers who will receive initial deliveries in the coming weeks should expect somewhat routine updates that will continue to add features and software honing over the next year or so at the least.

Just a few months after receiving approval to begin tunneling from the SpaceX parking lot into Los Angeles, Elon Musk and The Boring Company have released a map that shows a conceptual layout for tunnels throughout the city. None of this is official and will require approval from Los Angeles County, the City of Los Angeles, and other city Governments in the county area, but serve as a basis for feedback from said governments and the public. This could be our first real preview as to what the layout of the tunneling system will be like upon completion. Let’s take a better look at it!

Stuttgart’s answer to the Tesla Model S

While considered laughable just a decade or two ago, the idea of a high-performance electric vehicle is now widely accepted in even the most traditional of speed circles. As the list of battery-motivated monster machines continues to grow, Porsche is getting in on the action with its up-and-coming Mission E. As a follow-up to hybrid superstars like the 918 Spyder and the Panamera, the Mission E is slated to become Stuttgart’s very first all-electric vehicle. Porsche teased the new model with a concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and now, we’re getting our very first shots of the production iteration in the wild. Captured out and about doing some real-world testing just outside Porsche’s factory in Weissach, the spy shots reveal just how close the Mission E is to becoming a reality on public roads. Expect specs that either match or beat the Tesla Model S, with several hundred miles of range and a blistering 0-to-60 mph time, not to mention a luxurious cabin space and Nurburgring-tested handling.

While full details are still forthcoming, there’s plenty of info floating around out there to go on in terms of speculation. Regardless, it’s sure to be top-shelf and quite fast, but the question remains – will it be enough to take out the Tesla? Is this finally the Model S killer we’ve been waiting for? We’re still a few years away from the release of the Mission E, so we’ll have to wait, but in the meantime, check out our speculative review.

Was a Next-Gen Ford Mustang Bullitt Caught Playing in Chicago?

It looks legit, but you can never know about these things

One of the Forum goers over at Mustang6g.com was out and about in Chicago when he spotted what could very well be a Bullitt version of the sixth-gen Mustang. Of course, there’s no word from Ford, but its resemblance to the sketch of a Bullitt in a previous promotion video is downright uncanny. It even appears to be wearing the Dark Highland Green (DHG for short) and has those five-spoke wheels with black spokes and chrome accents. You can really make out if the rear window louvers are in place, but if you look just behind the roof line, it does appear as if there’s a little turgidity there that could, perhaps, be window louvers. BMW Trademarks i1 Through i9 in Preparation for its EV Onslaught

The rights to these names add to large list of names

BMW has now trademarked all names from i1 to i9, adding it to a list that also includes iX1 through iX9 – signifying that German brand is about to unleash a furious lineup of electric vehicles to combat those from rivals like Mercedes which will be boasting its EQ brand in the coming years. Along with these new trademarks, new reports from BMWBlog imply that the entire BMW range could, indeed see full electrification. This new strategy, it seems, will see BMW present as many as 25 electrified vehicles, at least 12 of which will be all-electric within the next decade, or 2025 to be more specific.

Chairman of the Board for BMW, Harald Kruger, has confirmed that BMW does own the rights to all 18 names. “Our i story enters the next round. Going forward, all electrified BMW models will be under the BMW i brand. And I can tell you one more thing: We have not only secured the naming rights for BMW i – from i1 to i9. We also hold the rights for BMW X – from iX1 to iX9,” Kruger told press member at a sneak preview of upcoming BMW products.

Furthermore, you can expect to see an all-electric Mini hitting the market in 2019, which will ultimately be followed by a battery-powered version of the BMW X3 in 2020. Just one year after that in 2021, the new iNEXT should come in 2021. There will also, with near certainty be an i5 added to the mix somewhere in the next 5 years as well. The all-electric future is here folks. We might as well, sit down, buckle up, and make the best of it.

Lamborghini Urus Hybrid Could Generate 700 Horsepower!

Should arrive by the end of the decade

The Lamborghini Urus, the company’s first SUV since 1993, was just unveiled at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, and the automotive world is already talking about future versions of the vehicle. A hybrid model has been in the rumor mill for at least a year now, but a new report claims that an electrified version of the Urus could arrive before the end of the decade. Its drivetrain is obviously a mystery at this point, but word has it that the plug-in hybrid could borrow its drivetrain from the Porsche Panamera. With the Urus using the same underpinnings as the sedan, this move would make a lot of sense, but the big deal here is that the Urus PHEV will probably end up being more powerful than the gasoline-only version.

Specifically, the range-topping Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, which pairs a turbocharged, 4.0-liter, V-8 and an electric motor, comes with a whopping 680 horsepower and 626 pound-feet of twist on tap. That’s 30 horses more than the Urus. And, knowing Lambo, it may want a bit more power, so a 700-horsepower rating is very likely. The extra oomph will make the hybrid quicker than the standard model by at least two tenths, if not more. On top of that, it will return better fuel economy and gain the ability to run on electricity alone, albeit for less than 40 miles. Emissions will drop too, which will make the Urus a bit more affordable in China, one of Lambo’s most important markets.

There’s no specific word as to when the Urus plug-in hybrid may arrive, but with the Panamera’s drivetrain already available, it could happen as soon as late 2018.

And, as it turns out, they are baseless rumors as Jack Hollis, Toyota’s VP and General Manager, told MotorTrend that it just isn’t up to a production level quite yet. To throw even more fuel on the fire, Hollis has said that the “Supra” name isn’t even finalized and that there are other names in consideration that could be better.
