Don’t Expect a BMW 9 Series to Arrive Anytime Soon
BMW has no plans to expand the top of its lineup. That doesn’t bode well for those who are dreaming of one day seeing a 9 Series sit a true flagship model. It might be time to wake up because that dream isn’t going to happen. BMW has confirmed that, even though it finds the appeal in a potential 9 Series, it’s not going to happen, in part because the automaker already has a model that competes in all the top-tier segments it wants to be involved in. More importantly, a business plan for the 9 Series just doesn’t make sense given that volume for models in the super luxury sedan segment — that’s the most likely spot for the 9 Series — are already low enough as it is.
The 2019 Toyota Supra TRD Performance Concept Debuts in Japan
The 2019 Chicago auto show may have stolen the headlines this week, but if it’s new Toyota Supra information that you’re after, there was nothing really new for you at the show. However, Toyota did reveal what its idea for a hotter Supra GR could look like with what it called the Supra Performance Line Concept that it debuted at 2019 Osaka Auto Messe in Japan.
2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD
The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD made its debut at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show as part of the third-generation lineage of Silverado-badged trucks. It follows in the footsteps of the Silverado 1500 revealed in 2018 in terms of technology and interior design, but features a unique exterior and enhanced capability. Both 2500 and 3500 versions are offered on the platform described as "the strongest, most capable ever."
Although it unveiled the HD’s design in late 2018, Chevrolet kept most of the important details in the vault. Now that it made its public debut, we know that it will be sold with a two-engine lineup and a new transmission. It’s also available in five trim levels, one of which is new, and 22 cab, bed, chassis, and driveline configurations. As of this writing, the Silverado HD offers best-in-class towing capability, but the upcoming Ford Super Duty, also set to break cover in Chicago, might take over with a better rating. We’ll be back with an update as soon as we know.
Rolls-Royce’s Collaboration with The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Chain is a Celebration of The Chinese New Year
The Chinese market is very important to Rolls-Royce. It’s so important that the British automaker is rolling a trio of special edition Cullinan SUVs to celebrate the start of the Chinese New Year, which just so happens to fall on the Year of the Pig. The special edition Cullinans were created in collaboration with the Mandarin Oriental hotel chain. Each of the three SE Cullinans sport unique exterior colors with identifiable badges to commemorate the Year of the Pig. Mandarin Oriental hotels in Miami, Boston, and Washington D.C. each have one of the three Cullinan special editions until today, February 8. They’re not just for display, too. Guests at the hotel can take chauffeured two-mile rides in them. Even better, the international hotel chain is also offering a chance for any of its guest to win the use of one of the Cullinan special edition models for a week.
BMW iNext tested at the polar circle
Do you remember the BMW iNext? Yes, the one with that Bane face from Batman? Well, it has been spotted testing in some extreme conditions. The iNext was seen going through vigorous testing in the cold weather in Swedish Lapland. It looks like BMW has a lot of expectations from the electric crossover. A little off-topic, but didn’t you notice that even the camouflage is not able to cover the huge kidney grille?
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350
The 2020 GLE is about to hit the US showrooms in late spring 2019, and let me tell to all SUV buyers out there, wait for it! This new generation is absolutely ground breaking when it comes to technology. No wonder Mercedes-Benz skipped the 2019 year model and jump straight into 2020. The new infotainment system called MBUX is stunning to look at and I wondered how I lived before without the self driving capabilities offered in these kind of vehicles. Follow me on a photo reportage of the GLE features.
Volkswagen gives 2019 Passat for Europe its midlife nip and tuck
Volkswagen has updated the current Euro market Passat and as with all new products from the German giant, you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference. But it is certainly different if you look at details like the Arteon-infused styling refresh as well as the long list of new tech features added along with the facelift.
2019 Land Rover Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition
Land Rover’s compact luxury crossover SUV, the Range Rover Velar, is finally getting a seriously fast version in the form of the SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition. It has 473 horsepower, as much as the bigger Range Rover Sport SVR, and 502 pound-feet of torque, enough for a 0 to 60 mph time of just 4.3 seconds. With a top speed of 170 mph, it’s also one of the fastest Land Rover products you can buy today and it doesn’t fail to let you know all about how grunty it is.
You’re now looking at the top-of-the-range Velar. The most expensive version money can buy and the one that will get you to your destination the fastest. Its 5.0-liter V-8 isn’t new either. What’s interesting here is Land Rover’s decision to use the SVAutobiography name for the hottest Velar instead of the SVR name that adorns the angriest Range Rover Sport and the Jaguar F-Pace.
The Land Rover Range Rover is also available in SVAutobiography trim and, like the Velar, it’s more subtle than the SVO-developed SVR models. That is if you can call turbine-like 22-inch wheels and quad exhausts a note of subtlety. What’s certain is that the $111,402 price tag is no way shape or form subtle being just $3,000 shy off the price of a Range Rover Sport SVR.
Kia Drops Pricing Info On 2020 Telluride SUV, Looks Like a Steal Against the Competition
Strutting its stuff earlier this year at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, the Kia Telluride is poised to hit dealerships later in 2019, and now we’re getting the low-down on how much it’ll cost. Long story short, the 2020 Kia Telluride offers tons of features and equipment for not a whole lot of scratch, starting at $31,690, and tagged at $41,490 for the range-topper.
Mazda Teases New SUV For Geneva
Just as everyone’s attention is focused on the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, Mazda coyly dropped a teaser photo of a new crossover that will debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show this March. Without giving any hints on what this model is, Mazda looks like it’s teasing what we believe is the new CX-4. There’s no indication that this model is actually the CX-4, but the image reveals a model that looks too big to be a CX-3 and too tight to be a CX-5. Whatever it is, Mazda has said that this model will incorporate its modern Kodo design language, and, more importantly, it will be available in the U.S. at some point in the future. The 2019 Geneva Motor Show kicks off on Thursday, March 7, 2019.
The 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Italia is Good News, Bad News at the Same Time
If you’re a fan of performance cars, the 2019 Chicago Auto Show must be really boring to you. Packed with trucks and special-edition SUVs, you have to dig deep to find some cool sports car in there, and most of them are actually classics. There is an exception worth checking out though: the 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Italia.
A limited-series, special edition version of the familiar roadster, the 4C Spider Italia comes with good and bad news for both Alfa Romeo and sports car enthusiasts.
How Ford Crashed Chevy’s Heavy Duty Truck Party in Chicago
Following a preview in December 2018, Chevrolet introduced the all-new Silverado HD truck at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, bragging about its new gasoline engine, 10-speed transmission for the diesel mill, and segment-leading towing capability. But Ford joined in with a revised version of the F-Series Super Duty and crashed GM’s party.
