This is the new Infiniti Q70, just announced at the New York Auto Show, and at first blush you may not peg it as a new or refreshed model. To be honest, not much has changed since it was still called the M Sedan. There have been some visual changes to distinguish the new 2015 model from the current 2014 version, but by and large this is the same swoopy and fluidic sedan Infiniti has been selling since 2010.

That isn’t necessarily a bad thing though, as I think the Q70 is one of the best looking cars in the class.

The big news for the 2015 car is the addition of new technology and the announcement of a long wheelbase Q70L, specifically created to cater to the booming Chinese markets. Thankfully for those of us who enjoy the idea of extra rear legroom, the Q70L will be coming to the U.S. and other important Infiniti markets. This isn’t a China exclusive like so many long wheelbase models tend to be these days.

Updated 01/15/2016: Infiniti announced prices for the 2016 Q70 luxury sedan which is now on sale at dealers nationwide. For 2016 model year the Q70 continues unchanged, with the only update including two new exterior colors: Hagane Blue and Majestic White (with premium pearl finish).

Infiniti Q50, Q60, and Q70 to Ditch RWD Platform for Hybrid AWD Architecture Starting in 2021

Current versions will have to stay strong in the next three years

The Q50, Q60, and Q70 are all in dire need of generational evolution. But, don’t expect to see any of them until 2021 because Infiniti is still developing a new electrified platform with all-wheel drive that will take the reins from the aging FM rear-drive platform that’s currently underpinning all three models. Over the next three years, however, all three models will have to soldier on and hold the fort for Infiniti as it develops the next-generation platform that will underpin Infiniti’s models moving forward.

2017 Infiniti Q70 – Driven

Executive limousines are a different breed, and the Infiniti Q70L has its own distinct take on the mid-size executive limo segment. Imagine you took a mid-size, rear-wheel-drive, luxury sedan and stretched its wheelbase a few inches, giving you more rear-seat legroom. Understandably, these cars offer passengers first-class space and amenities. But, does Infiniti have what it takes to earn business in this ultraluxe segment? Established players from Europe have these cars down to a science, and the Q70’s Japanese rivals make a solid case for themselves, too.

I recently spent a week driving the long-wheelbase Infiniti Q70 model and came away thinking it’s not quite ready if it’s looking to compete with established rivals like the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, and Lexus GS. But, it also offers V-8 motivation at a price point where many of its competitors have half as many cylinders. That gives it a lot of appeal to those who appreciate sporty driving. Much like the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 I reviewed recently, the Infiniti Q70L a value leader in its segment – as long as you don’t value the latest-and-greatest infotainment features or the quietest interior more than you value a stonking-fast V-8.

2016 Infiniti Q70 Premium Select Edition

Infiniti made a big splash at the 2014 New York International Auto Show when it unveiled the 2015 Infiniti Q70, the company’s mid-level luxury sedan, to challenge the likes of the BMW 5 Series and the 2016 Jaguar XF for supremacy in its class. Since it’s debut, the 2015 Infiniti Q70 has posted impressive sales results: 5,056 sold units though the first seven months of 2015.

Capitalizing on the car’s popularity, Infiniti has announced the arrival of the first special edition of the Q70, called the Premium Select Edition. The specially equipped Q70 is scheduled to make its debut in the Infiniti Pavilion at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance before hitting Infiniti dealerships nationwide in November 2015.

The Q70 Premium Select Edition will feature exterior and interior upgrades to separate it from other Q70 models.

The company is offering Premium Select Editions on a host of Q70 trims, including the Q70 3.7, Q70 3.7 AWD, Q70 5.6, and Q70 5.6 AWD models (non-Hybrid).

2015 Infiniti Q70L Bespoke Edition

2015 Infiniti Q70L Bespoke Edition

It’s been five years since production of the fourth-generation Infiniti M began in 2010, and nothing much has changed except for receiving a hybrid drivetrain in 2012 and being renamed as the Q70 in 2014. For the 2015, however, the Japanese introduced a refreshed design and a long-wheelbase version made available in both the U.S. and China. At the Shanghai Auto Show, Infiniti took things up a notch by unveiling the Bespoke Edition, a Q70L fitted with an exclusive interior that borrows from other concept cars the luxury brand introduced recently.

"Today’s display reinforces Infiniti’s distinctive design language of power and artistry, with the Q70L translating that seamlessly into an interior treatment," said Roland Krueger, president of Infiniti Motor Company.

The Q70L Bespoke Edition was unveiled alongside the Q60 Concept and the Q80 Inspiration, which made their official debut in Asia and likely preview future production cars.
