If you are planning to buy a two-door coupe with a powerful engine, it doesn’t have to be the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe, the BMW 4 Series, or the Audi A5 with all the handling finesse. What if you want to cover long distances in comfort? There you go, Nissan’s luxury brand Infiniti has the Q60, a luxury two-door coupe that has almost all the required specs and features including a good ride quality reminding you of a Gran Turismo. However, of all the good sides, there are a few caveats which we will talk about in this detailed review of the 2022 Infiniti Q60.

Overview

The already stylish Q60 did not receive any visual upgrades for the 2022 model year, and that goes to the interior too. It also features the same 300-horsepower, 3.0-iiter, twin-turbo V-6 engine. The brand offers an AWD system that will cost you an additional $2,000 and it comes with a center limited-slip differential. Don’t want to upgrade? Well, the RWD will provide better fuel economy but will not have the limited-slip differential in the rear. The new model year adds wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity which was missing in its earlier iterations. That’s it. The optional packages and other features stay similar to the model it will replace. That said, the Q60 has been one of the most eye-catching two-door coupes on the market. The interior is well built but it is not as techy as the Germans with big infotainment screens and driver information display. The 2022 Infiniti Q60 starts at an MSRP of $41,750 which is not a bad deal considering what it is offering. The BMW 4 Series (starting MSRP- $45,800), Mercedes-Benz C-Class two-door coupe (starting MSRP- $47,200), and the Audi A Series (starting MSRP- $44,000) are the well-known competitors of the Q60. The Q60 is the cheapest among the bunch, yet it packs a powerful turbocharged V-6. However, the Q60 is not without its flaws.

Trims and Features

The 2022 Q60, similar to the outgoing model year, has three trims- Pure, Luxe, and the top-spec Red Sport 400. The Q60 is no doubt the interpretation of how beautiful and elegant Japanese engineering could be from the outside. Although it should be noted that the design language has largely remained the same since its launch in 2014. But talking in favor of the design, the exterior screams sportiness with its fairly lowered and wider stance. The sharp set of LED headlights with angry-looking DRLs around them give it a much sporty character. The mesh-designed intake grille extends to the lower part of the fascia. Even the lip spoilers are carved to match the front design. The long hood has a few bulges which add to the sportiness. The sides have 19-inch alloys which come fitted as standard along with curved body panels to enhance aerodynamics.

The rear kind of reminds us of the new C-Class with its identical taillight design. Nevertheless, the LED taillights look sharp and along with them, the big circular exhaust vents and a diffuser surely make the rear a real badass. Since the Q60 is a two-door coupe, the dramatic sloping roofline adds to the visuals. The dimensions are all the same and so is the curb weight. However, the AWD variants are a bit heavier than the standard 3,743 pounds. A few of the exterior highlights are as follows:

- LED headlights, DRLs.

- Blacked-out mesh grille.

- 19-inch alloy wheels as standard.

- Big circular twin exhaust tips on the side with a diffuser.

- Heated mirrors.

- Keyless entry.

Interior: Well built but feels dated

Yes, you saw it right. The interior of the Q60 has been decent with its good build quality and features. But fast-forward to the 2022 model year, except for the excellent material quality, the overall design looks and feels dated. Don’t get us wrong, the cabin feels superior when you touch every part of the dashboard, the door panels, or the drive selector. There are either soft-touch plastics or leatherette treatments or brushed aluminum on the dashboard, center console, and door panels. The dashboard design is minimal with the center console being the busiest part. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped and provides good comfort, but it doesn’t come with paddle shifters in the lower trims. For a sports coupe category, not having paddle shifters will pull away a lot of attention, especially from the enthusiasts. If you compare it to the competition, the Q60 has the most inferior cabin in terms of modernity. The instrument console is analog-digital whereas the competition has all digital screens. The infotainment screen is not the most responsive and relatively slow and feels outdated with the system.

Anyway, let’s talk about the goods, and the first thing would be the seats. They come with leatherette upholstery as standard but the comfort is there. However, sports seats do not come as a standard feature. The front seats offer eight-way power adjustability, while the German competition offers up to 12 or 16-levels with the top trims. The overall outward view from the cabin is quite good as you seat a bit high. With the Luxe trim, you can unlock features like heated leather front seats and steering wheel, a few of the convenience features that we prefer from luxury brands. There is decent headroom and legroom at the front, and as it is a two-door coupe, the rear row has only 32.4 inches of legroom and the sloping roofline cut the headroom to 34.5 inches. The rear row will fit two children or under adults with an average height. Practicality is never expected from sports coupes and they usually are the second or third car for a lot of people. The cargo capacity is set to 8.7 cubic feet with the rear row up. The BMW 4 Series and the Audi A5 coupe have got 12 and 10.9 cubic feet, respectively.

A few of the notable interior features of the 2022 Infiniti Q60 are as follows:

- Dual-zone automatic climate control.

- Leather upholstery.

- Eight-way power-adjustable and heated front seats.

- Heated front seats.

- Leather-wrapped and heated steering wheels.

- Power-adjustable tilt and telescopic steering wheel.

- Sunroof.

Coming to the infotainment system, there are two screens that are touchscreen operated - one is an eight-inch screen and the other is a seven-inch display. Let us tell you, the system is laggy and makes the experience worse if you compare it with the German competition. There is no voice assistance in a car in 2022 and Apple CarPlay has been added to the new model year. Satellite radio and Bluetooth connectivity, a six-speaker audio unit comes as standard. The Red Sport 400 gets the navigation, along with Infiniti InTouch. A few of the infotainment features to note down would be:

- 8-inch and 7-inch touchscreen units.

- Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

- Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity.

- SiriusXM.

- Navigation system.

- 13-speaker Bose premium surround audio unit.

- Infiniti InTouch.

Performance And Handling: One Step Forward And Two Steps Back

For the price, Infiniti Q60 sports the most powerful engine in the segment. Although the title would fit better for the lower trims. Powering this luxury two-door coupe is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine which is Nissan -derived, and it puts out 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of maximum torque as standard. The figures make the competition feel a little inferior, be it in engine power figures or real-world performance. The motor shifts through a seven-speed shiftable automatic system and drives the rear wheels as standard. All-wheel drive comes as an option with an additional $2,000 with a limited-slip differential. The Red Sport gets a tuned version of the V-6 engine with the drivetrain components and it puts out 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Infiniti could have offered AWD as standard or a limited slip-differential for the rear-wheel drive, at least for the Red Sport trim.

If you talk performance, the 3.0-liter V-6 will not disappoint you. The 300 horsepower trims with the RWD takes 5.2 seconds for a 0 to 60 mph. Even the 400 horsepower Red Sport takes 4.5 seconds to reach 60 mph from a standstill. If you compare it to the competition, the C-Class takes 5.6 seconds to reach 60 mph and the 4 Series Coupe takes 5.5 seconds. Although the quarter-mile timings are not available for the base V-6 trims of the Q60, there would be about a second gap between the Q60 and the competition. The engine and real-world performance are decent with the Q60 but what isn’t is the handling aspects of the car.

Remember about the earlier part of the review where we kept suspense? Yes, it was the handling and more specifically the Direct Adaptive Steering. The suspension is relatively soft, but not too soft, so the ride feels almost just right. That is okay but the Q60 is meant to go fast around the corners but it doesn’t unlike the Merc and Bimmer in the segment. Also, the steering input is quite numb at lower speeds and invites low feedback in return. The RWD variants do not get a slip-differential, as that is only available for the AWD, which - by the way - does not have torque vectoring tech like the higher variants of the competition. The ProActive package available with the Red Sport trim unlocks the Direct Adaptive Steering which happens to change the steering feel and feedback according to the driving conditions. This system further ruins the experience because of the inconsistency it invites.

Fuel Economy

The 2022 Q60 has similar fuel economy figures from the previous model year. The 300 HP trims with RWD get an EPA rating of 19/28/22 miles per gallon for city/highway/combined. The Red Sport gets the same 19 miles per gallon in the city, but the highway mileage gets down by two miles per gallon at 26. The latter figures are not something to throw away, especially when it has a 100 horsepower difference. Infiniti added a 20-gallon gas tank which can return up to 420/440 miles depending on the power figures.

Safety Convenience

Luxury cars tend to avoid getting thrashed by some blocks when it comes to crash resistance ratings and reviews, and the Q60 is no less. So there are no NHTSA and IIHS ratings to confirm how safe the new Q60 is. Although, as standard, there aren’t many driver assistance features and that is kind of a bummer. The Luxe trim unlocks the full assistance features like blindspot monitoring, lane departure warning, and a lot more. A few of the important safety features available with the 2022 Q60 are as follows:

- Adaptive cruise control.

- 360-degree camera view.

- Lane-departure warning.

- Lane-keeping assist.

- Blindspot monitoring.

- Forward collision warning.

- Emergency braking assist.

Should you consider the 2022 Infiniti Q60 over the competition?

It is a mixed feeling, to be honest. The Q60 is one of the least expensive two-door coupes with a twin-turbo V-6, so it's not a bad deal, but it is missing some features found on newer vehicles. Nissan is known to be behind the competition when it comes to cabin technology unlike the other Japanese counterparts like the Lexus and Acura.

FAQ

Q: Which Q60 Trim Level is Best?

The Luxe trim would be the best if you are willing to buy a Q60, and its $50,300 price tag won’t hit the bank too hard. The advanced driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blindspot monitoring, and a few more come bundled with the trim along with a few creature comforts like a heated steering wheel and front row seats, sunroof, leather upholstery, and a lot more. If you lock your eyes on the Red Sport 400, then not opting for the ProActive package would be a blessing for you. Want to know why? Keep reading till the end.
