Basketball Star Stephen Curry Is Now Designing Cars...Sort Of

Basketball Star Stephen Curry Is Now Designing Cars...Sort Of

Fortunately, this whole escapade was nothing more than a ruse

Just because you’re one of the best in the world at hitting threes in the NBA, that doesn’t mean you automatically become a good, even decent, car designer. Stephen Curry is living proof of that. The two-time NBA MVP, who also happens to be a brand ambassador for Infiniti, “designed” this concept monstrosity known as the Infiniti QXzero Concept. It’s an ugly concept, and that’s putting it lightly. The good news is that this isn’t an actual showpiece Infiniti; it’s part of an elaborate prank that Curry and Infiniti pulled on one of the MVP’s best friends, COSeezy. So while it is a bit of a relief to learn that Curry’s automotive design chops weren’t at all compromised by this horrendous three-wheeled showcase of ugliness, the QXzero Concept is still a reminder to all of us that just because there’s a “concept” designation attached to it, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be any good, even if it’s all part of an elaborate jig.

2019 Infiniti Qs Inspiration Concept

Nissan’s premium brand isn’t messing around with its future model plans

The latest in Infiniti’s growing line of Inspiration concepts made its debut at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show. Called the Qs Inspiration, the concept is the latest in a series of concept cars that Infiniti has showcased to spread the word of its plans for greener powertrains and other new technologies that will shape the future of the brand. Like most automakers these days, Infiniti has moved well beyond “talk is cheap” model by showing an increased commitment in demonstrating what it intends to do now that the industry is in the middle of shifting eras. The Qs Inspiration still looks like a concept, but it’s not really just a concept in the traditional sense of one. It’s a look into a future that isn’t that far away anymore. In fact, look for the next-generation Q50 or Q70 sedans to draw inspiration from the Qs. That’s how close this concept is to becoming, well, more than a concept.

While some enthusiasts will undoubtedly cringe at the thought of yet more battery-powered vehicles plying the roads, Infiniti is proving that such a fate is anything but boring, especially when it comes infused with technology plucked from the high-speed world of Formula 1 racing. Which brings us to the latest Project Black S concept, which recently made its big debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. Offered as an evolution of the previous Infiniti Project Black S that dropped at the Geneva Auto Show a few years back, this latest creation is based on the utterly fantastic Q60 Red Sport 400 sports coupe, and provides both aesthetic and technical details on how Infiniti plans to implement hybrid technology to spark the interest of speed lovers everywhere.

Infiniti will Awe the Crowds Again with an Electric Speedster at Pebble Beach

It’s been just 12 months since the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance was rocked by Infiniti’s unveiling of a Pre-War inspired concept named the Prototype 9. It was one of the best looking concept cars of 2017, and it was electric, which is what everyone is asking for nowadays. Infiniti’s Single-Seater Concept Teased with Sleek Lines and a Lot of Attitude

Could a future electric, track-spec race car be in Infiniti’s future?

Infiniti’s teasing game of its Pebble Beach-bound concept continues, and the latest tease finally gives us a good look at the car in all its entirety. Not surprisingly, the new concept, called the Prototype 10, looks nothing like the Prototype 9, the retro stylized concept vehicle Infiniti unveiled at last year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The Prototype 10 is a modern, maybe even futuristic, interpretation of an electric, track-spec speedster that may or may not end up in production.

Another year, another interesting Pebble Beach-bound concept from Nissan’s luxury brand

The 2018 Pebble Concours d’Elegance is playing host to a number of extraordinary concepts, including one from Infiniti that’s being billed as an electric vehicle concept. The description doesn’t do justice to the accompanying teaser image, which shows the concept’s cabin taken from a birds-eye-view perspective. The teaser doesn’t reveal too much, but it does show enough for us to assume that the concept could have some loose connection to the Prototype 9 Concept that Infiniti showcased last year at Pebble Beach.

2018 Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept

2018 Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept

Is this the upcoming Q90 flagship sedan?

Infiniti has made tremendous progress in recent years, evolving from a brand that used to sell slightly more upscale Nissan models into a full-fledged luxury company that competes against the likes of Lexus and Lincoln. Come 2018, and the Japanese brand is looking to expand into new niches, including the electric car market. The Japanese firm is also readying a new design language, which was previewed at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show by the Q Inspiration concept.

A slightly futuristic midsize sedan, the Q Inspiration is giving us a glance into Infiniti’s future car design. It also signals a next-generation Q70 that’s sportier and uses a new-generation engine with variable compression ratio. "The premium sedan segment has become rather conservative. The Infiniti Q Inspiration previews something that could appeal to a younger audience, who seek modern design and new technologies to inspire and empower them," explained Christian Meunier, the company’s Global Division Vice President.

Infiniti didn’t say whether the Q Inspiration also previews an upcoming flagship sedan, but the concept car should serve as inspiration for all future products. Let’s have a closer look at what it brings to the table in the review below.
