It happened in Rome...
Remember the Giugiaro Quaranta concept unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show? When concepts come out we don’t really get too excited because chances are real low that we will ever get to see it in real traffic. This time, however, the guys over at Giugiaro have decided to take this particular concept and throw it into production. The result? A Giugiaro Quaranta taxi!
This poor concept never really stood a chance. The sheer ridiculousness of this supercar is just astounding, but no supercar deserves this type of fate. A burial by taxi is no way to go, but the Quaranta did, in fact, do a stint as a taxi for a couple of days in Rome, Italy. The Quaranta is powered by the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive with the help of solar panels. It can produce 268 hp and make the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds, so unfortunately it can take its passenger to their destination before they even realize what car they’re riding in. Fortunately, they might not notice how ugly it is either.
There is no need to tell that Giugiaro will unveil the Quaranta Concept at the Geneva Motor Show, a concept car that marks 40 years of total commitment to automotive styling research and technology. It is an “extreme”, ecological, 4WD super-sportscar, the first hybrid car with mid-engine and driving position and a roomy cabin able to accommodate three adults plus a baby in complete comfort.
A second innovative aspect concerns aerodynamics: inspired by the latest research in F1 the “Quaranta” concept car adopts rear flaps which enhance its sleek shapes. Also due to its one-volume silhouette, it delivers class-beating performance (top speed of 250 km/h, acceleration from 0 to 100 kph in 4 seconds).
Incorporating the best technological and design solutions, offshoot of the expertise and flair for constant update displayed by Italdesign Giugiaro for more than 40 years, the “Quaranta” prototype is set to be a Supercar achieving the best compromise between extreme performance and low environmental impact.
Giugiaro revealed the fourth teaser image of the Quaranta Concept (and by the way, yes, this is how it will be called) that will be unveiled next week at the Geneva Motor Show. The fifth, and final teaser will be released on Friday. Stay tuned!
If it were to speculate, we suppose the Quaranta Concept will be a hybrid model, but we prefer waiting for the official details to find out more!
