For better or worse, there has been a notable tendency for classic car EV conversions. This 1967 Jaguar E-Type Coupe is the latest example thanks to the masters at Electrogenic. On the outside, the "Jag" looks like a well-executed classic restoration, but under the elegant body, there's a modern electric drivetrain. It was recently announced, just ahead of the London Classic Car Show where the car will make its debut and celebrate its 60th anniversary.

The good news is, nothing on the outside suggests the “Jag” is now powered by electricity, as it retains all classic elements that make it a gorgeous car to look at. Enzo Ferrari himself said it’s ‘the most beautiful car ever made”.

The first of the three versions is called “Tourer” and features a lower than the original curb weight. It’s a balance between range and handling. The “Tourer” will have a top speed of around 100 mph (160 km/h). The car’s original transmission is used for a more authentic driving experience. The Tourer promises a range of 150 miles, although range-extending options are available that add up to 100 miles of range.

The second EV conversion is called “Sprint”. It features a curb weight near-identical to the original E-Type and 470 Nm (347 pound-feet), while still using the original gearbox. The Sprint comes with upgraded braking and suspension. And you don’t need to worry about that extra weight since it’s kept at the bottom of the car. Just like the Tourer, the Sprint offers a standard range of 150 miles, with range extenders being optional, with up to 250 miles on a single charge.

The “top of the cherry” is the high-performance “Gran Tourer” version. Here, Electrogenic entirely does away with the original drivetrain, by replacing the original gearbox with a more modern and efficient system. Electrogenic says that, in Gran Tourer guise, the electric E-Type produces 300 kilowatts (402 horsepower) and 600 Nm (443 pound-feet).

Just like the exterior, the interior remains faithful to the classic 1960s sports car. Of course, some small changes were needed, such as the fuel gauge, which instead will display the stage of charge. The toggle switches also remain, although they have been repurposed, and the new equipment is able to use the original engine mounts. This also makes the conversion fully reversible should you change your mind and decide to do a classic restoration.

As for where the name comes from, the Series 1¼ came from a version of the E-Type, produced primarily for the US market. It was based on Series 1. but featured open headlights.

The above-mentioned prices are without VAT and may vary depending on the spec since all cars will be tailored to the customer’s specific requirements. Oh, and you need to bring your own E-Type donor car. On the other hand, you get the timeless looks of the original, with a more efficient and probably more reliable drivetrain. The car was displayed at the London Classic Car Show that took place between the 25th and 27th of June 2021, where the E-Type was displayed alongside other magnificent conversions done by Electrogenic.
