Jaguar brought out the XF back in 2008 as a replacement model for the old S-Type in 2008. Three years later and it’s time for the luxury sedan to get a little refreshing in the form of a facelift. The revised XF made its debut today at the New York Auto Show and will be followed by diesel and station wagon versions at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The facelift XF will come with revised front and rear end styling inspired by the XJ sedan. It will also get new engines, including a diesel. The new Ford/PSA-developed 2,200 cc engine is the same one that will be used for the Range Rover Evoque and will deliver a total of 187 HP. The engine will come with a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox that will send the power to the rear wheels. And since it is equipped with start-stop technology, the new engine will emit less than 130 g/km of CO2.

UPDATE 07/03/2012: Jaguar is joining the likes of many other automakers as it focuses more on turbocharged V6 engines, rather than standard V8s. That’s right, in 2012, Jaguar is axing the standard V-8 in the XF sedan.

Taking its place at the base of the XF lineup is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, which is a Ford design, that pumps out 240 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque. The changes don’t stop there on the 2013 XF, as Jaguar is also adding in an optional 3.0-liter V-6 with a supercharger that punches out 340 ponies and 332 pound-feet of torque. The XF will still have its trio of V-8 engines available as options, so if you are looking for a little more oomph you can opt for one of the V-8s, which crank out between 385 and 510 horsepower.

More details on the Jaguar XF after the jump.

The exterior of the 2012 XF features a revised grille, hood, and front fenders, which incorporates new triangular side vents. The supercharged version gets louvers featuring the "supercharged" script, while the headlamps now incorporate bi-function HID xenon technology. The LED daytime running lights are arranged in a distinctive Jaguar ‘J-Blade’ signature.

At the rear, the XF also gets redesigned tail lamps that extend onto the central portion of the trunk lid and a redesigned trunk lid trim with a gloss black lower edge for a cleaner appearance. For 2012, Jaguar will offer the XF in three new exterior colors with a new set of alloy wheels size 18" to 20".

"The XF has rightly been recognized as a quintessential Jaguar sedan. It is purposeful yet elegant, with inherent sporting intent in its design. For the latest version we have been able to evolve and enhance that performance character." - Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar Cars.

The XF’s interior design has always be favorite of ours since we first tested the vehicle, but for 2012, the interior has been further improved with high-end materials and new technologies. The front and rear seats have been redesigned to incorporate a ‘hoop’ design element on the seat and backrest that improves their appearance and support. The company is now offering a new color combination and a revised color scheme on the center console, dashboard, and steering wheel where buttons and switchgear have a more luxurious soft feel black paint finish. The ‘Tungsten’ finish is replaced by a more contemporary ‘Aurora’ theme.

The list of technologies includes a seven-inch Touch-screen with a new polarizing filter for improved contrast, addition buttons, and a revised graphics palette.

Jaguar will be offering a number of engine options for the new XF, including a choice of three diesel powertrains and two petrol versions. For the diesel, you can opt for a 2.2-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 187 horsepower and 332 lb/ft of torque with a 0-62 mph time of 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 142 mph. More powerful than that is the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine with 237 horsepower and 368 lb/ft of torque, good enough for a 0-62 mph time of 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph. Then there’s the 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine that produces 275 horsepower and 442 lb/ft of torque, which translates to a 0-62 mph time of 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.

As for the two petrol engines, you have a choice between a 5.0-liter V8 and a 5.0-liter turbocharged V8. The former comes with 385 horsepower and 380 lb/ft of torque with a 0-62 mph time of 5.7 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph whereas the latter hits 510 horsepower and 461 lb/ft of torque with a 0-62 mph time of just 4.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.

With different trim options come different price quotes. In the case of the XF, the price for the diesel versions will range from £30,950 ($49,915) for the 2.2-liter version, £36,950 ($59,600) for the 3.0-liter twin-turbo and £42,950 ($62,200) for the top-of-the-line diesel trim.

Meanwhile, the two petrol versions will sell for £49,950 ($80,500) for the 5.0-liter V8 and £65,350 ($105,320) for the 5.0-liter turbocharged V8.

The Jaguar XF can easily do battle with models like the BMW 5-Series and the Audi A6. The BMW 5-Series has recently been revised in all aspects and, on the US market, is offered in either 535i or 550i. The 535i is by a powered BMW TwinPower Turbo using High Precision Injection and VALVETRONIC variable valve timing that cranks out 306 HP, while the 550i is powered by a 407 HP eight cylinder engine. The Audi A6 gets a 3.0 TFSI engine with 300 HP and 440 Nm of torque. However, when it comes to the design, the XF seems to be the most elegant vehicle of the bunch.

Jaguar XF has a nice and improved exterior appearance and elegant interior equipped with high technologies. It’s simple but a stylish car.

It looks so decent on its hygienic body paint, and I’m impressed that it had an impressive engine for a sedan like this. I also noticed that the mileage that it had given some angst and aggressiveness on it, which adds more appeal on this XF.

Jaguar brought us again car lovers the new temptation. Really awaited model car of the year. I like the inspired style and fully developed 2,200 cc engine. Nice job.

Simplicity is really a beauty! smiley The Jaguar XF is very fabulous on its simple platform and style, the front headlights are so cool about it.

Jaguar are became so remarkable for us because the looks of their cars is really one of the best but they are right that when it comes in speed performance they would never be number one.

Jaguar car had so much on a good looking car, but I have to agree with them that this car is only for a luxury brand only.

  (472) posted on 05.6.2011

Well, I have to agree on you Harry, I was thinking the same idea. I mean when it comes to the performance Jaguar would never been in the number one spot. This is car is definitely a brand for luxury only!

  (273) posted on 05.6.2011

If they are really a luxury brand then why they haven’t using a more modern technology? They still used the v8 technology which is definitely not a latest technology and
I was thinking the same with the V6.

  (410) posted on 05.4.2011

For me, Jaguar is a luxury brand that can’t deliver a high performing car.
I think the technology used here is kind of useless for its output is less powerful. However, when it comes to the design I have to admit that it has an luxurious and sporty look.

  (701) posted on 05.4.2011

Nothing more expected with this car to improve looks, As it grows better and prettier look i ever seen with this type of model.

  (445) posted on 05.4.2011

Well, I really don’t agree. For a v8 technology, I think the power output is just enough. I do believe that Jaguar is not a typical racing car. But if you are looking for a better performing and high speed car, this is definitely not the best option.

Jaguar Xf 2012 model posses a fresh and new look. This type of model is clean and neat based on its exterior design. The new engine will definitely the highest speed up performance.

  (412) posted on 04.27.2011

Yeah me too, I am quite contented with the looks of the car, the interior’s quite nice too. I just hope that they will still be able to add a few more HP’s to the engine.

  (683) posted on 04.26.2011

What do you know, the Jaguar XF actually looks really good here. I must admit that I really was not that sure of the car when I first saw it

  (446) posted on 04.25.2011

Its not really a sportscar so I think the power output is just enough. I’m contented to the luxurious look of this car.

  (402) posted on 04.25.2011

Wow! A expected from Jaguar. I like the elegant and decent look of this car and the white paint job compliment to it.

  (797) posted on 04.25.2011

Hmm, nothing much seems to have changed from the previous XF, but that one is actually a good thing. Last year’s model is actually quite good so there’s no need to change that.

  (1211) posted on 04.1.2011

The XF can be considered as more of an entry level sedan rather than a full fledged sports coupe. So you definitely would want to try this first before moving on.

  (409) posted on 03.31.2011

Yeah you’re right on the handling bit. But that one is also mainly due to the fact that the XF has a lower top speed than, say the XK, which makes it easy to manage.

  (613) posted on 03.30.2011

One thing that I love about the XF series is that they have very good handling when compared to other Jaguar models, good thing that they have kept this.
