Not content with its current lineup of models, Jaguar has announced the arrival of its latest masterpiece, the completely digital Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo. It’s not a real supercar that will terrorize roads in the near future; the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo is a low-slung all-electric supercar that will terrorize all the hapless racers that get in its way in the Gran Turismo Sport racing game. The sleek two-door supercar takes design cues from a lot of Jaguar’s existing model lineup. It’s also powered by a stuffing of electric motors that combine to produce four-digit levels of power. In other words, the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo is a monster, and this monster will make its way to the video game world by the end of November.

Exterior

- Inspired by Jaguar's model lineup and vintage race cars - Sleek and sexy beyond description - Massive rear wing explodes with performance potential

The Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo looks wild. Let’s get that out of the way. It sits ridiculously low to the ground and it has an impossibly low roofline that makes the accompanying windshield look as if it runs parallel to the ground.

The defining physical characteristic of the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo is its curvaceous body. It’s got enough curves to make supermodels jealous. The huge haunches, in particular, are ceremonial nods to some of Jaguar’s most legendary race cars, including the iconic — and one-off — Jaguar XJ13 prototype that never actually saw a checkered flag.

The Vision Gran Turismo’s pop-up canopy is another notable highlight. It’s sleek and streamlined in a way that makes the concept look like a supreme performance machine. Speaking of which, the massive rear spoiler is also impossible to notice and the taillights setup is similar in nature to the ones worn by Jag’s resident sports car, the F-Type.

Maybe there’s a bit of recency bias attached to it, but it’s hard not to look at the concept and wonder why Jaguar isn’t building it for real. That’s a question only Jaguar can answer and it doesn’t look like we’ll get one anytime soon. Bummer.

Interior

- Metal strip extending from dash to rear wall - Weird-looking seats - KITT-E holographic assistant - Curved digital instrument cluster - Race steering wheel

The Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo’s interior is curious, to say the least. The driver’s position, in particular, looks a little too tight. That’s in part due to a large strip that extends from the dashboard to the backrest portion of the seats. The strip sits about chest-high to the driver and that’s where the gear shifter is located. It’s a concept-like setup, sure, but it doesn’t look particularly comfortable and user-friendly, especially if you’re going at speeds the concept is capable of.

They’re not seats in the traditional sense that we describe seats. They look like they’re carved right out of the body of the car, extending from the floor to the backrests. The latter looks like it has enough cushion and support to compensate for the lack of them in the actual seats. I’m not going to pretend to know how it feels to sit in that car, but I don’t imagine it being as comfortable as many of today’s luxury cars.

The rest of the interior is expectedly laden with a lot of concept car design cues. The steering wheel exudes racing character and the curved borderless instrument cluster is something you won’t see in any of today’s exotics.

On the passenger side sits a slim white box that looks like one of those old-school DVD players. It’s hard to make out what that is, but I’m guessing it’s the Vision Gran Turismo’s data box or something to that effect.

There’s some kind of lighting setup hidden underneath the aforementioned strip that projects a holographic image through a circular hole that’s been cut on the dashboard. The elaborate setup is called KITT-E, a holographic assistant that comes in many shapes, including, a woman. This feature is so next-level that Jaguar has come out and admitted that it won’t appear in the Gran Turismo Sport-bound Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo. If the tech is so advanced that it won’t appear in the video game version of the car, that’s when you know it’s time to pack it in.

Drivetrain

- Three electric motors - 1,005 horsepower and 885 pound-feet of torque - Less than two seconds to sprint from 0 to 62 mph - Top speed over 200 mph - Audio soundtrack from Jaguar D-Type Long Nose race car

Jaguar took its liberties creating a suitable powertrain for its Vision Gran Turismo Concept. It comes with three electric motors that combine to produce a whopping 1,005 horsepower and 885 pound-feet of torque. If the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo Concept existed in the world, it would be the most powerful production car Jaguar has ever built. But alas, the four-wheeled dynamo is limited to the confines of the Gran Turismo Sport game so the most we can take out of it is enjoy the car in the context of the game.

That shouldn’t be a problem for us given that it’s expected to go from 0 to 62 mph in less than two seconds and hit 200 mph with relative aplomb. Jaguar added that the whole concept weighs only 3,086 pounds, putting it ever-so-close to achieving that 1:1 power-to-weight ratio that very few cars in the world ever get to achieve.

Mind you, the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo Concept isn’t just a fast and powerful car. Jaguar also promises “perfectly balanced handling,” which should ring music to all of our ears. It’s hard enough to drive a 1,000-horsepower car without perilously coming close to losing control of it, but it’s more difficult to do it when you’re surrounded by other fast and powerful supercars in a racing video game setting. Based on what Jag says, it looks like we won’t have that much trouble with its Vision Gran Turismo Concept.

As an added bonus, Jaguar’s also installing a unique soundtrack into the concept so that it Gran Turismo Sport like a gas-powered racer despite its all-electric setup. Apparently, Jaguar dove into its archives to find recordings of the Jaguar D-Type Long Nose, one of its most iconic race cars that finished on the podium of the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans. The iconic racer was powered by a 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that produced 220 horsepower. Now, imagine the sound of that specific engine getting added into the setup of the 1,005-horsepower Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo. Makes for a very interesting proposition, wouldn’t you say?

What’s really there to say about the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo? It’s the most radical concept car Jaguar has ever built, except it’s not really a concept car, but a video game car. That alone explains why the Vision Gran Turismo packs so much technology in its overall package. The drop-dead gorgeous exterior combines with a future enhanced interior and a 1,005-horsepower, three-electric motor setup to provide the kind of thrills that you don’t expect from an automaker like Jaguar. Then again, Jag has a reputation for throwing a few surprises in the direction of its fans. The context is different from the Vision Gran Turismo, but it is an exciting surprise nonetheless. All we have to do now is wait for the racer to drop in Gran Turismo Sport and see if it’s really worth the hype it’s getting.
