Jaguar has refreshed the F-Pace for 2021 model year, and it comes with quite a few changes. While the changes are subtle on the outside - so subtle that a layman won’t even notice it – the automaker has rejigged the cabin. The old screen is swapped with a new, larger touchscreen infotainment system, and there are new engine options available under the hood, including a hybrid that offers up to 33 miles of electric range. Will this help elevate the Jaguar F-Pace in such a competitive segment?

What Powers The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace?

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace will be available with an exhaustive engine combination lineup between petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid technologies. The drivetrains equipped with the mild-hybrid technology make use of a Belt-Integrated Starter Generator for regenerative braking. The energy harvested is stored in a 48-Volt lithium-ion battery. These mild-hybrid models also feature a stop/start system.

How Are The Diesel Engines Spec’d?

Speaking of the diesel mills first, you get two engine options to choose from - a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged mill, and a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder, turbocharged engine. Both of them feature the mild-hybrid technology as standard.

The less powerful iteration delivers up to 45.4 mpg. The 3.0-liter engine is available with and without the mild-hybrid system, although both of them churn out 296 ponies. The hybrid diesel sprints to 62 mph from a standstill in 6.4 seconds and delivers 38.1 mpg.

How Efficient Are The Petrol Engines?

Coming to the gasoline engines, here you are offered a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine, and a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder turbocharged mill, both offered in two different tunes. Both of them come with a mild-hybrid system as standard. Both the iterations are offered with an electric supercharger supported by a twin-scroll turbocharger. The 395-horsepower option takes just 5.4 seconds to sprint to 62 mph from a standstill. The 2.0-liter is offered as a pure gasoline engine that makes 247 horses and 269 pound-feet of torque in one iteration and delivers up to 30.4 mpg. It is the slowest of the lot and takes 6.9 seconds to 62 mph.

It features a plug-in hybrid system, thus making the F-Pace the first plug-in hybrid electric Jaguar ever. The power output come courtesy of the internal combustion engine and a 140-horsepower electric motor. Thanks to this, the Jaguar F-Pace PHEV takes just 5.3 seconds to hit the 62 mph mark.

The electric motor is powered by a 17.1kWh lithium-ion battery. Jaguar says it offers 33 miles of pure electric range. On average, a daily U.K. commute is 18 miles, thus enabling owners to run the F-Pace everyday on battery only. It takes 100 minutes for the battery to recuperate from 0 to 80-percent using a 7kW wall box domestic charger, and 30 minutes to recharge to 80-percent using a 32 kW fast-charging DC network.

All the models, by the way, come with all-wheel-drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The 2021 F-Pace also comes with JaguarDrive Control that comes with Comfort, Eco, Rain-Ice-Snow, and Dynamic drive modes.

How Is The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace On The Outside?

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace doesn’t feature a lot of changes on the outside as compared to its preceding model. Up front, the sculpted hood features a wider power bulge and slightly enlarged grille with the ‘diamond-detailing’. The new bumper features redesigned air intakes and dark mesh details within. The 2021 model also benefits from new LED taillights with the signature ‘Double J’ LED Daytime Running Lights.

Jaguar has retained the same side profile for the 2021 F-Pace. At the rear, the slim taillights feature the same double-chicane design that we first saw on the electric I-Pace. Apart from this, a redesigned bumper winds up all the changes made to the SUV’s derriere. The automaker says that the top-spec R-Dynamic looks a little different when compared to the other trims and comes with a performance-focused look. If you are someone who prefers dark elements over chrome and bling, you can opt for the optional Black Exterior Pack that will be available on all the trims.

How Is The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace On The Inside?

Right from the cockpit to the center console, everything looks premium and well-screwed overall. A new Drive Selector can be seen here finished in “cricket-ball” stitching. The ventilated seats are redesigned and now offered better bolstering. Few of the trims even feature the Jaguar logo on the headrests and “Est.1935 Jaguar Coventry” upholstery tags. New handles, casings, and increased storage space on the doors make the new F-Pace even better.

Coming to the tech bit, the new F-Pace features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster which Jaguar prefers calling an “HD Interactive Driver Display”. It throws a ton of data, including full-screen navigation, infotainment, details, and so on. A Head-up Display is also available as an option. It runs on Pivi Pro infotainment system that features Apple CarPlay as standard, but Android Auto is optional. It comes with a dual-sim technology to stream media and download over-the-air updates.

New Technology On The 2021 F-Pace

Some other new add-ons include segment-first Active Road Noise Cancellation technology that constantly monitors vibrations from the road surface and calculates the opposite phase sound wave needed to remove the noise heard by the occupants. I wonder what happened to the anti-motion sickness technology that Jaguar was working on. It would be an algorithm that generates a wellness score for every passenger in the car, which can be used to automatically personalize a vehicle’s driving and cabin settings to suit. Jaguar is said to have made some strides recently in that field, but that would be for the autonomous cars.

The F-Pace also comes with a second-generation wearable Activity Key that can be used to access and start the SUV. It replaces the conventional key fob. Driver Assistance features like Clear Exit Monitor and Adaptive Cruise Control are also present. 3D camera, cabin air ionization, 14-speaker Meridian sound system, and ambient lighting are some of the other features available on the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace.
