The arrival of the facelifted 2021 Jaguar F-Type also comes with the launch of the F-Type First Edition. Limited to the facelifted F-Type’s first-year production run, the F-Type First Edition offers a smattering of refinements that includes exclusive features inside and out, including a choice of three paint colors and plenty of premium touch-ups in the cabin. The only real downside is that the 2021 F-Type First Edition could set you back at least $90,000.

Pros
Cons

Exterior

- Three paint finishes available - Exterior Design Pack in Dark Satin Grey - 20-inch five-spoke wheels

That includes the horizontally stretched headlights, the clamshell hood, and the low-slung nose. The front grille is also slightly larger than past versions, and its surround is finished in either satin Noble Chrome or the gloss black if you decide to go with the Black Exterior Pack option. The front and rear bumpers are also new while the LED rear light clusters are also updated. The latter takes design cues from its headlamp counterpart, and the “Chicane” light graphic that we first saw in the all-electric I-Pace SUV is now available in the 2021 F-Type, complementing the ‘Calligraphy’ signature J daytime running lights that integrate neatly into the “liquid metal” surfacing of the F-Type’s new clamshell hood.

The First Edition comes with exclusive aesthetic nods that separate it from all the other F-Type models, including your choice of three paint finishes:

-* Santorini Black

-* Fuji White

-* Eiger Grey

It’s not the most colorful color palette in the world, but all three colors look good on the F-Type. That’s a win. The Jaguar F-Type First Edition also comes with the Exterior Design Pack in Dark Satin Grey and a set of five-spoke, 20-inch Gloss Technical Gray with Contrast Diamond Turned finished wheels. The entire exterior setup looks posh and sophisticated with the obvious elements of sportiness and aggression thrown in.

Interior

- Ebony with Light Oyster stitching - Mars with Flame Red stitching - 12-way Windsor seats - Ebony Suedecloth wrapped instrument cluster with Monogram embossing - Exclusive aluminum center console with First Edition branding - Aluminum gearshift paddles - Ebony Suede headliner

The truth is that not much has changed in the cabin of the F-Type, but though are a few elements that have been tweaked. One big change is the all-new 12.3-inch driver information center. Not only is it highly customizable, but it’s comparable to what you can see in higher-end models like Mercedes. There’s a modernness to its look and functionality that’s definitely a step-up from the previous setup in the F-Type. Related to that is the updated infotainment system, which is more functional in terms of its user-ability.

These few upgrades are included across all versions of the F-Type, including the F-Type First Edition. But since the First Edition, is, by definition, a special edition model, it benefits from several exclusive touches of its own. You can even compliment your choice with an instrument cluster that’s wrapped in Ebony Suedecloth with Monogram embossing.

From there, the F-Type First Edition also comes with aluminum gearshift pales, an Ebony suede cloth headliner, and an exclusive aluminum center console with First Edition branding. The latter can serve as a reminder in case somebody forgets that they’re sitting inside a special edition 2021 Jaguar F-Type.

Powertrain and Performance

- 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 engine - 373 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque - Eight-speed quick shift automatic transmission - 0 to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds - Top speed is 171 mph

An eight-speed quick shift automatic transmission comes standard across all versions of the F-Type so expect the First Edition to carry the same drivetrain. The first edition should come with RWD, but all-wheel-drive should be available as an option All told, the Jaguar F-Type First Edition should be able to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds on its way to hitting a top speed of 171 mph.

Price and Availability

Jaguar hasn't announced pricing details of the Jaguar F-Type First Edition in any of the markets that it plans to sell the model. Actually, Jaguar hasn't announced prices of the F-Type beyond the model's starting price of £54,060 in the U.K. market. We do know that the current F-Type R-Dynamic starts at $84,300 with RWD and $87,300 with AWD. Given the facelifted nature of the 2021 F-Type First Edition and the expected bump in the price of its special edition, it wouldn't be surprising to see the F-Type First Edition sell for no less than $90,000.

Final Thoughts

The 2021 Jaguar F-Type First Edition is a worthy special edition model. It doesn’t have the same “rah-rah!” personality as some First/Launch Edition models we’ve seen from other automakers — the subdued exterior colors play a role in that — but the model exudes everything you want from a Jaguar sports car. It’s classy and sophisticated, stylish and sporty. It blends luxury appointments with the kind of power and performance that you normally expect from a Jaguar. The special edition label and the corresponding badges and identifiers also add exclusivity to the proceedings. I’m not a fan of how much the F-Type First Edition costs, but I won’t begrudge anyone who decides to make the splurge and buy one for themselves. It’s a fantastic-looking car that carries a newness and status to it that only an automaker like Jaguar can provide.
