Jaguar Land Rover Brings The Goods At L.A. Auto Show
The 2017 L.A. Auto is now in full swing, and JLR kicked things off with a swanky party in downtown L.A. filled to capacity with hot rides and top brass. In attendance was SVO managing director John Edwards, legendary car designer Ian Callum, and Design Director Gerry McGovern, while celebrities of the four-wheeled variety included the Jaguar Project 7, Jaguar Project 8, Discovery SVX, the new Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Sport SVR, and Range Rover SV Autobiography. Attendees got a chance to hear from JLR reps about the development of the JLR’s latest crop of vehicles both quick and comfortable, and even got up close and personal for a little hands-on experience before the convention doors opened Wednesday morning.
2017 Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY
Jaguar’s “Pace” lineup has grown quite quickly, with the F-Pace winning the hearts of many, and the E-Pace – the baby of the lineup – coming to life for the 2018 model year. Both of these models, however, make use of gasoline or diesel engines for motivation. Recently, however, Jaguar debuted the I-Pace Concept, a vehicle that, once put into production, will sit at the top of the lineup with its sedan-like proportions and two electric motors – the same ones that delivered 394 horsepower and 516 pound-feet in the concept. It seems that we’re actually getting a look at a high-performance version of the I-Pace long before we actually see the production car, all thanks to Formula E and a race series that will feature as many as 20 examples of the I-Pace eTrophy. Details about Jag’s newest race car are still predominantly under wraps until at least 2018, but we do know that it will be built by Jaguar SVO in the U.K.
With that said, the initial debuting of this new race car stands as an increased effort being put forth by Land Rover and Jaguar to electrify its entire lineup of new cars starting in 2020. And, with the Brits planning to ban ICE cars by 2040 altogether, the I-Pace and I-Pace eTrophy set Jaguar up nicely to be prepared for that inevitable moment 23 years from now. The I-Pace eTrophy also comes along as the basis for the world’s first production battery electric vehicle racing series – the first step in what will eventually redefine racing as we know it. But, we’re getting a little too far ahead of ourselves, so let’s take the time to take a look at the new I-Pace eTrophy race car and talk about what we can expect from Jaguars latest pet project.

Jaguar Gets Racy With The I-Pace eTrophy
Imagine for a second what a Jaguar I-Pace will look like if Jaguar decided to turn it into a race car. I suppose it’ll be dripping with active aerodynamics, maybe even get a fancy color with racing stripes and company decals. It’s a good interpretation, except that we won’t have to imagine it because Jaguar actually did it. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Frankfurt-bound I-Pace eTrophy, a prototype version of a racy-looking I-Pace that’s looking to devour the competition, a full-blown racer that will compete exclusively in the newly created I-Pace eTrophy series.
Judging by the way it looks - it’s positively menacing - it’s easy to forget that the I-Pace eTrophy is still an electric car at its roots. The quasi-SUV does have adequate power to justify its billing, thanks in large part to a 90 kWh battery and four electric motors (one on each axle) that combine to produce a total output of 400 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. It’s unclear if the I-Pace eTrophy carries the same power and performance credentials, but if it’s able to perform as well as it looks, I expect the new I-Pace eTrophy support racing series for Formula E to be as exciting as it sounds. At the very least, the sight of seeing 20 of them on a racing grid is more than enough to get me interested in the series.

2017 Jaguar Future-Type Concept
In case you hadn’t noticed, there’s no shortage of predictions when it comes time to guess what’ll happen when autonomous driving technology really takes off. One of the more popular projections is a dramatic change to the current car ownership model, with shared, on-demand vehicles taking a bite out of the high costs of car ownership that we know today. In a lot of ways, it makes sense, and now, Jaguar is jumping on the bandwagon with the new Future-Type Concept. Framed as an all-inclusive solution to the passenger transportation needs of the year 2040, the Future-Type mates advanced AI, fully autonomous driving capabilities, social sharing, on-demand ride summoning, and electric power, all with the traditional Jaguar elegance, refinement, and excitement. Or so it would seem.
“Future-Type offers an insight into the potential for driving and car ownership in the future. It’s part of our vision for how a luxury car brand could continue to be desirable, in a more digital and autonomous age,” according to Ian Callum, Director of Design at Jaguar. That’s all well and good, but what exactly are the details of that vision? Read on for a little more insight.

Could Jaguar Have A Mystery Unveiling Planned At Goodwood?
Count Jaguar in as one of the many automakers that will be in attendance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It’s not exactly ground-breaking news though, is it? Well, it appears that Jag isn’t coming to Lord March’s estate empty-handed as rumors are circulating that the company is coming with a new version of its XJ sedan.
Now, this isn’t actually a rumor in the traditional sense because Jaguar itself announced such plans. What’s been left in the dark is what kind of version of the XJ this mysterious model is going to be. The only thing Jag hinted at is that it will be a new “derivative” of the luxury sedan and that it will use the Festival of Speed’s famous Hill Climb event to complete its final testing phase. Other than that, we’re left to our own imaginative devices to speculate on what derivative of the XJ this model is going to be. Could it be a new performance-oriented XJR? Maybe something out of Jag’s SVO division to sit alongside the XE SV Project 8? There’s also the possibility that with the current generation XJ nearing its life cycle, Jag might be developing this mystery XJ as a last hurrah of sorts - like perhaps an ultra luxurious final edition model? There are plenty of different directions that this mysterious XJ could go so predicting what it’s bringing to the table at Goodwood will likely amount to nothing. We’ll know the answer soon enough.

2018 Jaguar XE SV Project 8
When Jaguar unveiled the XE back in 2015, rumors of a high-performance version surfaced almost immediately. With the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division having already launched a couple of cars, it was only natural to assume that Jaguar would develop an XE SVR to go against the BMW M4 and Mercedes-AMG C63. However, the SVR has yet to make it into production, just as Jaguar has yet to launch a V-8-powered version of the car. But, the wait will be over come 2017, as the British firm has just confirmed that the XE has gained a supercharged V-8 under the "SV Project 8" badge.
If "Project 8" sounds familiar it’s because it’s the second limited-edition vehicle from SVO, following the F-Type Project 7 from 2014. The really big news here is that Project 8 is significantly more powerful than Project 7. With output close to 600 horsepower, the beefed-up sedan is officially the most powerful Jaguar ever made. The company also promises "supercar performance and dynamics in a four-door sedan," which makes Project 8 as exciting as they get. An official debut is scheduled at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 30, but Jaguar has already released spec sheets and photos.

A Jaguar F-Type with a Four-Cylinder? New Entry Level Trim on the Way
Around since 2013, the F-Type is Jaguar’s newest sports car, a spiritual successor to the E-Type, and an all-out replacement for the XK. Up until now, you could get it with a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 that’s tuned to deliver either 340 horsepower in entry-level form or 380 horsepower in S form. Or you could get a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 tuned to deliver either 550 horsepower or 575 ponies if you went with the range-topping SVR trim. Prices ranged anywhere from about $61,000 to more than $125,000 for the SVR, but as fate would have it, the F-type just might get a little more affordable and easier to obtain by those without deep pockets.
So, what’s the big deal here? Well, the F-Type is now going to be offered in entry-level form with a four-cylinder engine. But, don’t go freaking out, punching walls, or setting shit on fire just yet. See, the new four-cylinder in question is a 2.0-liter turbo with 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque on tap. Not bad, huh? Jaguar hasn’t mentioned where maximum horsepower kicks in within the powerband, but all of that torque is available at an excessively low 1,500 rpm – obviously, made possible by a healthy dose of turbo goodness. Power will be routed to the wheels via an eight-speed Quickshift automatic.

2016 Jaguar I-Pace Concept
Jaguar entered a new era in 2013, when it launched the F-Type and revived the sporty and innovative spirit it had lost in recent decades. The British company made another step into the future in 2015, when the F-Pace became the first SUV to wear the iconic "Cat" logo. Come 2016 and Jaguar is ready to take a new step into the future, this time with an all-electric vehicle. It’s called the I-Pace, it’s only a concept for now, but will become a production model for the 2018 model year.
Unveiled at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, the I-Pace is loosely based on the F-Pace styling-wise, but ditches Jaguar’s already familiar four-cylinder, V-6, and V-8 powerplants for a pair of electric motors and a battery pack. The I-Pace will become Jaguar’s first-ever electric vehicle when it hits public roads and will essentially bring to fruition the electrification process that the company began back in 2010 with the C-X75 concept.
The I-Pace was created and developed by Ian Callum, Jaguar’s design director and the man who has previously penned cars such as the Aston Martin DB7 and DB9, Jaguar XK, XF, and XJ, as well as the F-Type sports car. Callum also designed the Ford RS200 and Nissan R390 race cars.
Described as a smart five-seater that’s "a performance car, a family car, and an SUV all in one," the I-Pace grants Jaguar entry to the electric car segment, and if performance figures are any indication, the popular Tesla Model X will finally get a worthy competitor.
Updated 03/15/2017: Jaguar dropped a series of new images showing the I-Pace concept in action on the streets of London. Also the company confirmed that the I-Pace will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4 seconds and will have a driving range of about 500 kilometers.

Jaguar XK SS Prototype Previews $1.25 Million Continuation Cars in L.A.
In 2014, Jaguar and its Heritage division decided to build the remaining six chassis of the E-Type Lightweight sports car exactly 50 years after the final original example left the factory. The new-old cars were put together using numerous original parts and techniques, as well as modern technology for improved safety, and became an instant hit with collectors, despite the £1.2 million (around $1.5 million as of November 2016) sticker. As a result, Jaguar turned its attention to yet another classic sports car whose production came to an abrupt halt: the XK SS. And, the prototype that will be used as a blueprint for the continuation cars was just presented at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Often referred to as the world’s first supercar, the XK SS was originally produced in 1957 using chassis and components from the retired D-Type race car, which had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times in a row. Initial plans included a 25-unit production, but nine cars earmarked for export to North America were lost in a massive fire at Jaguar’s factory, leaving only 16 examples on the road. Much like it did with the E-Type Lightweight, Jaguar plans to roll out the remaining nine cars in 2017.
All vehicles, which will look identical to the Sherwood Green prototype shown in L.A. (except for the paint of course) will be completely new and have period chassis numbers from the XK SS chassis log. The cars will cost "in excess of £1 million each." That’s at least $1.25 million. Why the steep price you ask? Well, not only are these cars difficult to build, as the prototype required 18 months of intense work and research, but they’re also highly desirable among collectors and will be sold to carefully selected customers who already own classic Jaguars. All told, the new XK SS won’t be a dealership model and not everyone can buy one. And, despite the high sticker, the Brits will have no trouble selling all nine examples.
So how new is the "new" XK SS? Jaguar says that most components are true to the original car, including the magnesium alloy body, the bronze welded chassis frames, the four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes with a Plessey pump, and Dunlop tires with riveted two-piece magnesium alloy wheels. The engine will be the same 3.4-liter, six-cylinder, D-type unit rated at 262 horsepower, but it will feature completely new cast iron blocks, new cast cylinder heads and three Weber DC03 carburetors. On the other hand, because the original styling bucks do not exist, Jaguar Classic produced a new, bespoke styling buck based on the original bodies from the 1950s.
Inside, the XK SS will get perfect recreations of the original Smiths gauges, the wood-rimmed steering wheel, grain of the leather seats, and brass knobs on the dashboard. However, minor specification changes have been made in order to improve driver and passenger safety. The fuel cell, for example, uses modern materials to support throughput of modern fuels. Jaguar will probably give customers a few exterior color options based on its 1950s palette, including the iconic British Racing Green.

2017 Jaguar XFL
For years, China has eagerly scooped up long-wheelbase (LWB) variants of popular luxury sedans, including models from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. Now, Jaguar will join the fray with an extended version of its second-generation XF. It’s called the XFL, and per tradition, it adds extra metal and offers more space around the luxurious rear seat to accommodate well-to-do business types in their daily to-and-fro.
The XF was first introduced in 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Just last year, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) dropped cover on the second generation at the New York Auto Show, quickly following it up with a few revisions early into 2016. Unlike the standard XF, the XFL was created specifically for the Chinese auto market.
The XFL will be the third vehicle in less than two years from a joint venture between the U.K.-based (and Indian-owned) JLR, and the Chinese state-owned Chery Automobile Co., which together form the Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company Ltd. While designed and engineered in the U.K., the XFL is the first vehicle to be produced at the JV’s production facility in Changshu, China, making it the first Chinese-produced Jag.
“Jaguar Land Rover is a world-leader in the production of aluminum vehicles and is one of the largest producers of aluminum bodies globally,” says Murray Dietsch, President of Chery Jaguar Land Rover, in a press release. “The arrival of the all-new Jaguar XFL brings the best of this experience and technology to Changshu. It is an important milestone for the team at Chery Jaguar Land Rover.”

2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe
Ever since Jaguar Land Rover established the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division, there have been rumors of a full lineup of performance vehicles ranging from sports cars to SUVs. Naturally, the Jaguar F-Type was expected to get the most attention, especially since SVO already created the 2015 Jaguar F-Type Project 7. Spy shots from 2014 suggested an SVR-badged model is also underway, in both coupe and convertible body styles.
While the drop-top has been spotted stretching its legs on public roads more than once in 2014, the coupe didn’t come out to play until 2015, when our tenacious paparazzi caught it in action somewhere in Europe. Now, Jaguar confirmed that the F-Type SVR is set to make its global debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and released the official photos and technical details, putting an end to more than a year of intense speculation about the range-topping F-Type model.

2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR
Back in late 2014, we heard a rumor Jaguar was busy creating a new range-topping F-Type. Sure enough, it wasn’t long before spy shots of the beefed-up two-door surfaced online. Motoring Australia then reported an Aussie dealership had assembled a list of customers eager to grab the faster cat as soon as it was launched. More spy shots followed, this time from a test session at the Nurburgring. Then came a leaked brochure filled with specs, and now, the new F-Type is finally confirmed, bringing less weight, more power, and improved aero, plus a topless body style to boot. Say hello to the F-Type SVR Roadster.
If you were unaware, the SVR stands for SVO/R. The “R” is pretty self-explanatory within the context of sports-car nomenclature, but I’ll explain SVO for the uninitiated. It’s an acronym that stands for Special Vehicle Operations, the team of hired-gun engineers responsible for making Jaguar Land Rover vehicles especially fast. You may remember SVO as the party responsible for creating the truly outrageous Range Rover Sport SVR.
So then, what happens when SVO applies its high-performance know-how to a sports car? Four words – fastest production Jag ever. Extra atmosphere optional.

Jaguar’s newest vehicle is a rather large departure from the typical sports car or low-slung luxury sedan the brand is known for. Debuting as the 2014 Jaguar C-X17 concept back at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new 2017 Jaguar F-Pace is set to ignite a fire under the brand. While deliveries of the new sport-tuned SUV are set to begin for the 2016 model year, Jaguar figured it needed more. To that end, the F-Pace is already getting a special edition.
Called the F-Pace First Edition, this special edition comes in very limited numbers – 2,000 units worldwide – and is designed to look like the C-X17 concept.
It’s not clear how many examples Jaguar has allotted for the U.S., though we know the U.K., Jaguar’s spiritual homeland, is only getting 200 units. There is plenty more information, so continue reading for the details.

The Jaguar F-Type is already one of the best-looking, most capable drop-top sportscars around. It’s stupendously fast, especially in V-8 S guise, and the gorgeous shape designed by Ian Callum looks like it was carved from solid granite instead of pounded from aluminum. Now, Jaguar is throwing a raft of new tricks at the F-Type, including a new all-wheel-drive system, manual transmission, and a new F-Type R convertible with the same supercharged, 550-horsepower V-8 from the F-Type R Coupe. In short, Jaguar wants to make the F-Type more usable for more people.
The new AWD system is available as an option on V-6 powered F-Type S Convertible (but not with a manual transmission), and is standard on the F-Type R convertible, which now replaces the V-8 S Convertible in the current lineup.
Yes, the Jaguar F-Type is getting a six-speed manual transmission, but it only works with limited drivetrains. Namely, the V-6-powered rear-wheel-drive variants, but Jaguar deserves a round of applause for its part in helping prevent manual transmission extinction. The company says it added the manual in response to widespread demand, most of which came from the United States.
Along with the addition of a F-Type R Convertible, the new features mean the F-Type’s range more than doubles in size from a mere six to a Porsche 911-rivaling 14 derivatives. Porsche has had incredible success with is vast range of 911s, which currently sits at 20, so Jaguar is almost certainly looking to replicate that success.

Jaguar has just made quite the surprise announcement regarding its F-Type. When the LA Auto Show rolls around, there will be an all-wheel-drive version of the F-Type Coupe R sitting in the Jaguar booth. More than that, we have word from Jaguar PR that there will be a total of 14 different F-Type models in the 2016 model year, and all of them will be on display at the show.
Jaguar already has six production models between the Roadster and the Coupe, and the AWD F-Type R makes seven. The Project 7 car will no doubt be there as well making for eight. But what are the other six cars? We have some pretty good ideas of what other machines are going to be announced, but we cunningly hid them after the break.

For those of you who have been sleeping under a rock the past few weeks, it seems as if the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed, which kicks off on June 26th, is shaping up to be one hell of a spectacle. We already learned that you’ll get to run the hillclimb in a digital version of the GTI Roadster and that the Q50 Eau Rouge will clear its V-6, twin-turbocharged throat on the course too. And now we have learned that Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations — the folks responsible for giving thick-walleted customers customized Jags and Rovers — will reveal a new model during the festivities.
According to the press release, the new vehicle will be a Jaguar, so we can rest assured knowing that it won’t be some oddly named and obnoxiously expensive Land Rover. Rather, it will be some sleek sexiness from the British big cat.
As of now, the details are very scarce, as Jag didn’t even give us the slightest clue on what this car will be. Stay tuned to TopSpeed.comand we’ll bring you all of the juicy bits once the car hits Goodwood.

This year’s edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show has witnessed some exciting and electrifying launches by most established brands.
Being one of the most important markets for the automobile industry, most car manufacturers see it fitting to debut their new models, variants and lineups in L.A. Every auto show has its stunners and duds, and some automakers just pull out ridiculous stuff to make us giggle – whether that giggle is intended or not is up for debate.
Sadly, the L.A. Auto Show’s biggest event is already over – the press days on the 28th and 29th of November – so we have pretty much seen everything that there was to see. The show does continue through December 6th, but those are general public days where the people that may actually buy these rigs can come and get a better look at them.
The L.A. Auto Show does, essentially, close the book on the 2012 auto show season, as just a few minor shows remain, but don’t fret; the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) and its headliner – the C7 Corvette – are just around the corner.
To help ease the transition between the ending of the 2012 L.A. Auto Show and the beginning of the NAIAS, we bring you the top-5 cars launched at the soon-to-close L.A. Auto Show.
