1960 Jaguar XK 150 S 3.8 Drophead Coupe
The Jaguar XK 150 was the final evolution of the original XK launched in 1949 and, as such, it was the most refined and the most powerful of them all. The S version came with a 3.8-liter engine from the Mark IX that developed 265-horsepower, impressive for the year 1960.
Just like its predecessor, the XK 140, the XK 150 was larger than the original XK 120, but it received some aesthetic improvements to make it look more modern. It originally came with the 3.4-liter DOHC inline-6 XK engine which developed 182 horsepower thanks to the updated cylinder head. The first XK 150s were sold in FHC (fixed-head coupe) specification with the drophead coupes arriving in 1958.
The XK 150 was kept in production until the end of 1960 when the final XK 150s were built for the 1961 model year. The following March, the E-Type was announced, and we all know how that went. But the appearance of the E-Type does not diminish the importance of the XK 120, and its XK 140 and XK 150 brethren, and the fact that now there’s an increasing market for these lush sports tourers.
It’s quite possible that you have heard of the Jaguar XKSS before. Steve McQueen famously had one and it’s one of those classics that sells for double-digit millions at auctions. But the Lynx-Jaguar XKSS is a different story, and it would almost be strange if you had heard of it before this. It is essentially a continuation car, built more than a decade after the original and by special order only from a shop specializing in Jaguar racing machines. Lynx (get it?) was a specialty shop dealing in
and E-Types, making them the right sort of people to tackle the project of recreating one of Jaguar’s greatest.
Like Shelby Cobra continuation cars, the Lynx-built cars were made because authentic originals are so incredibly rare. The XKSS was built as an afterthought, simply because Jaguar had pulled out of motorsports after 1956 and had some leftover D-Types. These cars were converted into road cars through the addition of a passenger door, full windshield and a few other bolt-on bits. Since they were made only from leftovers, just 16 of the XKSS were ever built, leaving many wealthy Jaguar fans with feelings of intense jealousy.

It’s come to this for the Jaguar XK. Already scheduled to be discontinued following the 2015 model year, the XK is making one last stand at a major auto show with the debut of the XK Final Fifty Edition at the New York Auto Show. As you can see from its name, this special edition XK is limited to just 50 units, each coming with a variety of upgrades added in to celebrate the departure of Jag’s entry-level model.
Truth be told, the changes are necessarily revolutionary, but they do give this model a little extra something to entice buyers. Included are a smattering of aero components on the exterior, some simple upgrades to the interior and some extra packages that are typically optional on the XKR-S to help boost performance, giving the XK a fitting send off.
What’s more, with the Final Fifty Edition being based on the XKR model, buyers get a 5.0-liter V-8 that nets 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of twist. So even if the whole cosmetic and cornering enhancements are underwhelming, the last 50 XKs can still take comfort knowing that its last incarnation has a monster breathing under that XKR-S GT hood.

There was a time when Jaguar was relegated as an afterthought in the luxury car segment. But things changed when chief designer Ian Callum came on board and his first design for Jaguar was for the XK. Fast-forward a few years later and the XK’s design language has made its way across the Jaguar lineup, marking the return to form of the company.
But for all the contributions the Jaguar XK has made to revitalize the company, sales of the model were undercut from within with the release of the F-Type Roadster. It came to the point where the model’s struggling sales forced the company to announce that it would discontinue the XK by the end of the year.
So you can imagine how the 2014 XK must feel. To be fair, it’s got a lot of traits and characteristics that are worthy appreciating. It’s looks may be getting dated, but it’s still flashy enough to catch peoples’ attention. Power isn’t an issue, either, and the luxury and technological amenities on the interior is top-class all the way.
But with all that comes a dark cloud hanging over the XK’s head and that’s a position it really doesn’t deserve.
Updated 08/01/2014: Jaguar announced prices for the 2015 XK and, it comes with a serious boost over the previous year, mostly because now the model offers more standard equipment. For 2015 prices will range from $85,425 for the base XK version to $138,925 for the XKR-S Convertible version.

The Jaguar XK may be nearing its extinction, but that hasn’t stopped the British automaker from rolling out a special-edition model for its German clientele. The model is called the XK66 Special Edition, and if you’re wondering about the car’s nomenclature, the ’66’ refers to the the years since the unveiling of the XK120 at the London Motor Show back in 1948. One look at the model and you know why it’s referred to as such, and really, the British Racing Green and Stratus colors used the original XK120 are the predominant colors of the XK66, which incidentally, are available in both coupe and convertible versions.
In addition to the distinctive colors of the XK66 Special Edition, the model also distinguishes itself from the rest of the XK lineup with an XK66 emblem placed on the rear of the vehicle. There’s also a number of black Union Jack emblems on the hub caps, and a new set of 20-inch alloy wheels polished in what Jaguar describes as an "Orona" design.
There doesn’t appear to be any performance upgrades given to the XK66 Special Edition, which is a bit of a letdown considering that the power train — a 5.0-liter V-8 engine that produces 385 horsepower — could’ve used a power bump to make the car more special.
Only 66 models of the XK66 Special Edition will be produced, and the model appears to be exclusive to the German market. Still, if you’re looking to get yourself one, you can do so at a price of &euro99,380 ($138,267) and &euro107,580 ($149,676) for the convertible model.

Jaguar’s got a pair of special edition XK models it’s planning to release in the UK, making us here in America green with envy.
As the more luxury oriented XK model, the Signature Edition has some pretty cool luxury amenities, even if it seems to have been short-changed in the engine department.
Then again, customers probably won’t mind because of the luxurious interior upgrade Jaguar gave to the model. Seems appropriate that an XK comes with standard soft-grain leather luxury seats that are available in a choice of either Ivory or Charcoal finishes. If that isn’t enough, the cabin also features a pretty smooth canvas Suedecloth headliner, Figured Ebony veneers and Bright Metal sport pedals. As far as the wheels go, the XK Signature gets the treat of having the fancier set of wheels, which in this case are 20-inch Kalimnos wheels.
Unfortunately for the XK Signature, Jaguar opted to give the model the base 5.0-liter, V-8 engine that "only" produces 385 horsepower, which is good enough to allow the sports coupe to break 60 mph in 5.2 seconds to go with a top speed of 155 mph. Like the XK Dynamic R, the XK Signature’s engine is mated to a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddles.
Another shared system between the two models is the Dynamic Stability Control system, which can be configured in four different modes — Normal, Winter, TracDSC and DSC Off — giving the driver suitable choices on how much computer help he’s going to need while driving on the road.
Like the XK Dynamic R, customers can choose from a variety of colors for the XK Signature, including Polaris White, Ultimate Black, Stratus Grey, Italian Racing Red, Dark Sapphire and British Racing Green.

Jaguar’s rise to prominence has been well documented here at TopSpeed. The company’s recent lineup of models have certainly caught the world’s attention, so much so that when the company talks about releasing special edition models, nobody scoffs at it anymore.
That’s the power attributed to the brand’s resurgence, especially in its home in the UK. It’s come to the point even that the brand has no problem releasing not just one, but two new special edition models for its entry-level beauty, the XK.
This particular one is called the XK Dynamic R, and it comes with a slew of upgrades befitting its "dynamic" label. Whether it’s the new 20-inch Vortex wheels or the interior that’s been dressed to the nines, thanks to a choice of either diamond-sewn performance seats in ivory/charcoal soft grain leather with ivory contrast stitching or charcoal/red soft-grain leather with red contrasting stitching, the XK Dynamic R exudes the same kind of confidence that the brand has had since it served warning to the rest of the industry that the Big Cat is ready to pounce once again.
Rounding out the upgrades on the Dynamic R’s interior is the Jet Suedecloth headliner that’s fully complemented by Piano Black veneers, while bright metal sport pedals have also been installed.
And we haven’t even taken into account the car’s 5.0-liter supercharged engine that’s mated to a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddles that control the Jaguar Sequential Shift function. All that and the XK Dynamic R pumps out 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque, allowing it to hit 60 mph in around 4.6 seconds to go with a top speed of 174 mph, attributed largely by the inclusion of Jaguar’s Speed Pack on the model.
Finally, a new suspension setup, which it it borrows from the XKR-S, was also installed courtesy of the Black Dynamic Pack, while a choice of colors, including Polaris White, Ultimate Black, Stratus Grey, Italian Racing Red, Dark Sapphire and British Racing Green, are available for the model.

Jaguar will be celebrating R performance brand’s 25th anniversary with the unveiling of the special-edition XKR-S GT at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The model has been designed as a track-focused, street-legal version of the XKR-S and will be limited to only 30 units: 25 for the U.S. and five for Canada.
The new GT special edition will feature a bespoke aerodynamic package made in carbon-fiber and including: a new front splitter, extended wheel arch spats, a rear diffuser and a large fixed rear wing. It will also feature Polaris White exterior paint with unique graphics and a Jaguar “R-S GT” logo on the hood. For the interior, the new XKR-S GT will combine Warm Charcoal paint with red accents.
The XKR-S GT will also add improved suspension and high-performance brakes with carbon-ceramic discs.
Updated 04/08/2013: When Jaguar unveiled the XKR-S GT at the New York Auto Show, it announced the model will be limited to only 30 units. However, Jaguar boss, Adrian Hallmark, announced that the production could be increased to 50 units. Of course, this increase will only happen if the market bears demand for it. With rumors of a limited run XKR-S Coupe buzzing in the air, Jaguar is giving us a brief slice of what ’special edition’ means in their parlance.
Headed to the 2012 Geneva Motor Show are a pair of special edition models of the XK and XKR that come with some pretty eye-catching exterior and interior details. The former includes an array of color options that customers can choose from: Celestial Black, Crystal Blue, Lunar Grey, Polaris White, Rhodium Silver, and Ultimate Black. In addition, Jaguar also fitted the sports car a choice of two headlining color options - Navy with Jet or Truffle with Canvas - and two new sets of 20" alloy wheels wrapped in diamond-turned Venom wheels with a dark grey finish.
As for the interior, Jaguar put in a couple of trims, highlighted by two exclusive Artisan interior color ways: Navy with Jet headlining and Truffle with Canvas headlining. As for the convertible variants, the British automaker is also providing more options for the hood, including a choice of four colors: Black, Blue, Grey, and Brown. The interior also has seats dressed in a tactile ‘scraffito’ finished leather, an instrument binnacle, door and rear quarter casings, Poltrona Frau leather headlinings, and two new veneer finishes: Shadow Walnut and Dark Figured Aluminum.
Last, but certainly not least, the XK and XKR Special Edition models will receive Jaguar’s Dynamic Pack which comes with an modified engine that bumps up the car’s top speed from 155 mph to 174mph. The Pack also includes side sill extensions with new rear diffuser, revised adaptive dynamics, spring and damper rates, and a new front steering knuckle for optimized precision.
Jaguar Italy is celebrating the E-Type’s 50th anniversary with the launch of a special edition XK E-Type Celebration. This special model will be limited to only 50 units and will be priced at 100,300 euro, or about $144,000 at the current exchange rates.
The new Jaguar XK E-Type Celebration will be offered in a Black Cherry color only with a black hood and Tamana 19" Red Badge Jaguar Heritage wheels. The black paint job will be combined with chrome insertions on the front grilles, the wing mirrors, air intakes, and window surrounds. For the interior, the E-type Celebration will receive a unique combination of Ivory and Charcoal with a special "Jaguar Heritage" logo on the seat’s headrest. The seat’s covers are in hammered leather, while the inserts of the bridge are made of aluminum with the brand-new Engine Spin finish.
What makes this deal even better is that every one of the 50 customers to purchase the Jaguar XK E-type Celebration will get the chance to drive a historic E-type for one week. Not too shabby, if you ask us.
Jaguar is already preparing the next generation XK sports coupe and convertible, but before that the company has given the current generation a final touch with a new facelift version of the XK. The refreshed model comes with dramatic design enhancements and new option packages emphasizing luxury and sporting personality. The face-lifted XK and the 550 HP XKR-S made their North American debut at the 2011 New york Auto Show.
For 2012, the XK has received unique styling attributes, including a larger grille and new bumper design, a revised rear with slimmer chrome trim, a new set of wheels, and new exterior colors. For the interior, Jaguar is offering new trim materials including ebony soft-feel paint for the switches, gloss black finish for the center console, phosphor blue halo illumination and ambient lighting.
No changes were made under the hood so we are still looking at the same 5.0-liter AJ-V8 engine as the current XK model.

Jaguar is celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of its most iconic models, the E-Type, this year. So to commemorate this occasion, the British automaker has released a new Spain-exclusive, limited-run Jaguar XK “Spring Edition”, complete with a myriad of aesthetic upgrades on both the exterior and interior of the car.
While we completely dig all the styling improvements that were made for the Spring Edition XK, we’re a little bothered because the car is only being sold in Spain, which means that unless we can have one imported to the US, then we’re going to have trouble getting this unique Jaguar XK model.
Having said that, the Jaguar XK is still one fine piece of machinery, regardless if it comes with special trims or not. We admit to having once lost some affinity for the Big Car in the past, but with their slew of newer and more recent models, including the XK Coupe and Convertible, our approval rating for this British automaker is steadily rising back to its former stature as one of Europe’s finest.

Jaguar Australia has unveiled a special edition XK Coupe that celebrates not only Jaguar’s 75th Anniversary, but also Jaguar’s historic return toLe Mans next weekend. Sales will begin at the end of June and there will only be 10 units produced, each priced at $193,500 plus on-road costs.
The Jaguar XK Coupe 75th Anniversary Edition is available in three colors only - Indigo Blue, Ultimate Black, and Liquid Silver. It will be distinguished by 20" Kalimnos alloy wheels, chrome finish to the side power vents, and chrome tailpipe finishers.
For the interior the XK gets bright finish pedals and an exclusive "75 Years" badge. The Jaguar will also feature a soft grain leather interior with contrast stitch and 16-way heated and cooled seats with memory. The sound coming out of the XK will be thanks to the superb Bowers & Wilkins 525-watt system with Dolby® ProLogic®II Surround Sound, three-channel stereo and unique amplifier, Kevlar mid-range speakers with high output and low distortion, and specially designed aluminum tweeters.
The Jaguar XK will get a new 5.0 Liter AJ-V8 engine without the supercharger that produces 385 bhp and 515 Nm of torque. This leave the XK doing the 0-6mph sprint in 5.5 seconds.
Pricing for the Jaguar XK starts at 193,500 AUD (158,500 USD).
We’ve seen Jaguar’s modern day interpretation of the classic E-type sports car before, and although it looked a lot like the latest member of the Top Speed test fleet, she was a feline of a completely different nature. That is because our Liquid Silver Jaguar XK convertible is powered by the now Indian automaker’s all new 5.0 Liter V8 that makes a total of 385 HP and 380 lb-ft of torque propelling the drop top sports coupe from 0 to 60 MPH in only 5.2 seconds while returning as much as 22 MPG on the highway.
Whereas last year’s model felt a bit tame; the new XK, even in naturally aspirated form, is packing enough power under the hood to satisfy more than a few desperate housewives. Much of the 2010 XK’s exterior remains the same, the only update for the new year are a pair of thin slits that serve as air intakes on either side of the front bumper as opposed to the previous model’s round fog lights while the new car’s lower air dam has been squared off with a few 90 degree angles. Starting up front the Jaguar’s familiar fish eye headlights frame the E-Type inspired retro round opening in the front bumper and the XK’s blistered wheel arches house a set of multi spoke Caravela alloys measuring 19 inches in diameter. While out back our feline retains its familiar round rear end.
On the inside the Jaguar XK is finished like a fine English sports car. Pieced together with high quality materials ranging from Burl Walnut veneer to the polished aluminum cup holders and seat controls, suede on the A pillar and soft Ivory/Oyster leather that covers the seats, dash and door panels. Every item that you can touch takes the XK one step beyond what you would expect from ordinary automobiles. One fun touch for driving enthusiasts is that the perforated leather wrapped front seats have multiple power adjustments, allowing the driver to inflate a pair of adjustable hip bolsters that inflate to keep them in place during spirited driving. On the other hand our XK came with the same complicated touch screen navigation system that controls everything from climate control to the satellite radio. At an even $89,000 our 2010 XK is a perfect example of just how luxurious a base model Jaguar can be.

The Jaguar XK was launched in 2007 as a replacement for the 10-year-old XK8. Designed by former Aston Martin chief Ian Callum, the XK received a convertible version for the 2009 model year, one year before the entire lineup received its first facelift. Initially powered by a 4.2-liter, V-8 engine rated at 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, the XK Convertible received a larger, 5.0-liter V-8 in 2010. Generating 385 ponies and 380 pound-feet, the new unit remained unmodified until the 2015 model year. Despite lacking powertrain updates, the XK Convertible received many changes inside and out throughout its life, remaining competitive against rivals from manufacturers such as Aston Martin and BMW.
In 2015, as the smaller F-Type had already taken center stage as the jewel of the Jaguar sports car crown, the XK Convertible retires after serving for seven years. Its place in the company’s lineup will be taken by a larger GT that’s rumored to take on the likes of the Bentley Continental, Maserati GranTurismo, and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe. But until Jaguar’s ambitious plan comes to fruition, let’s have a closer look at the XK Convertible.
