The 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show ->ke40 will play host to quite a treat from Jeep->ke40. Known for its plethora of special edition models, the American automaker is headed to the show with yet another limited-run offering.

Exclusive to Europe, the Jeep Wrangler->ke425 Polar Limited Edition comes packed with new aesthetic features, both on the exterior and interior.

It's not really that surprising, especially with Jeep because of its rather strong penchant of rolling out limited-edition models like nobody's business. But there's something really appealing about the Wrangler Polar Limited Edition. For one, it's got some nice exterior changes that while subtle, still brings out an improved look and stance for the off-roader.

And then there's the interior, which, is really something to see.

All these modifications, plus the choice of two powertrain options, gives the Wrangler Polar Limited Edition the kind of cache that could lead the vehicle to be a popular model once it hits dealerships.

Too bad it's only going to be offered in Europe->ke139.

Exterior

The Wrangler Polar Limited Edition is based on the Wrangler Sahara model. While technically based on an existing model, the special edition Wrangler does have some distinctive aesthetic features, including a new front grille that comes with Gloss Black accents on the lamp throats and a new Hydro Blue paint finish, one of three available colors for the Wrangler Polar in addition to Billet Silver Metallic and Bright White.

Notice also that the hood of this Wrangler appears to be different than the rest of its kind. That’s because Jeep installed a powerdome hood that provides an even more imposing visage of toughness to the all-roader. A three-color hood decal can also be prominently seen in the Wrangler Polar, touched up with mountain outlines and a black fuel filler door that comes courtesy of Mopar. From there, the changes continue with a new hard spare-tire cover that’s also a new styling design that

Jeep introduced specifically for this model. A Gloss Black Jeep logo above the front grille can also be visibly seen while a new set of Gloss Black 18-inch alloy wheels round out the exterior features of the Wrangler Polar Limited Edition

Interior

Plenty of upgrades were done on the interior of the Wrangler Polar Limited Edition. That’s hardly a surprise, considering that Jeep has been known to do impressive work dressing up its cabins on the occasions that call for it.

In this case, black leather seats were used on the limited edition Wrangler. Not content with just that, Jeep also enhanced the Look of the seats by adding Pearl White accent stitching and a “Polar” logo neatly embroidered on the backrests. The steering wheel also has black leather with Pearl White stitching wrapped around it, while more of the distinctive white stitching can also be found on the floor console lid and the armrests.

Continuing on the black-and-white theme of the interior, high-gloss Ceramic White was used on the passenger-side dashboard grab bar, as well as the dashboard vent rings, creating what Jeep describes as “the contrasting effect of the light on Antarctic glaciers”.

Drivetrain

The new limited-edition Wrangler Polar is powered by a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine that produces 200 horsepower at 3,600 rpm and 340 pound-feet of torque while matched to an automatic or manual transmission. If you wanted a bigger engine, you can opt for the 3.6-liter V-6 that delivers 284 horsepower and 256 pound-feet of torque while mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing

No information yet on pricing although we expect it to retail exclusively in Europe for probably around €24,000, which is about $31,600 based on current exchange rates.

Competition

2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser

The Toyota FJ Cruiser can provide the same type of dust-collecting, mud-swamping action as that of the Wrangler.

Powered by a 4.0-liter V-6 engine that delivers a total of 260 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of peak torque. The FJ Cruiser’s numbers aren’t too far off from the Wrangler, except that it comes with a slightly bigger engine and a less powerful output. The prices aren’t all that different from each other either, so it really boils down to the Wrangler Polar Limited Edition being a limited edition and offering more output.

Conclusion

The extra features that are part of the Wrangler Polar Limited Edition package are definite pluses. Adding a slice of posh to the rugged identity of the all-roader will only give that much more appeal, especially for the folks over there in Europe.
