This Wrangler comes with a good-looking exterior and a premium cabin

The Jeep Wrangler has been around for many decades now. Its reputation in the automotive community and sales figures are testimony to the SUV’s success. Folks who are looking for an adventurous truck with impeccable off-roading skills often have the Wrangler at the top of their list. Even when aftermarket companies work on the Wrangler, they generally work on increasing its off-roading prowess. However, there are only a few who work on the aesthetics inside out. And, there’s no doubt that the Wrangler does not top the list when it comes to luxury and the finesse.

However, a British company called Sterling Automotive has decided to take this route for its version of the Wrangler. Sterling hasn’t made any changes under the hood or to the mechanicals of the SUV. It’s only cosmetic and aesthetic upgrades are to the exterior and the interior.

What Is Different On The Outside?

This two-door Wrangler is in an all-black shade with no hints of chrome or any other hue on the body. Up front, the round LED headlights are retained, but the original grille is swapped for a Sterling-exclusive horizontal one. It doesn’t feature any badge whatsoever. ‘STERLING’ lettering is pasted on the lip of the hood.

The front bumper is extended out. This, coupled with the flared wheel arches, makes it look like someone’s punched the car in the nose and it’s gone inside.

The side profile looks nice since it is wider than the stock Wrangler. The wheel arches are wide and deep and are painted in the exterior shade itself. It rides on 17-inch Pro Comp steel wheels that look retro and match with the persona of the Sterling Wrangler.

The wheels are wrapped around 265/70S Davanti Terratoura tires. 18-inch wheels would’ve fit comfortably, too, but that would limit the Wrangler’s off-roading capabilities. The rear looks neat since the bumper extension makes the spare tire fall in line with it. The spare receives an exclusive Sterling JL soft wheel cover. There are no other changes in the back.

What Are The Changes Inside The Cabin?

On the inside, the Sterling has made quite a few changes. The seats look like they recently hit the gym and have come out looking all toned. The original front seats are re-upholstered with Sterling’s signature 3-D panelled and perforated leather. The seats are heated and cooled and also feature the company’s name embossed on the backrest. The rear seats also receive the same upholstery, but without the ventilation system. The armrest, glove box, and the elements surrounding the gear lever receive similar treatment.

As for the dashboard, and the door handles and pads, Sterling has wrapped those in Alcantara. Not a bad move to blend Alcantara in the cabin since it signifies luxury. Not to mention, these also come embossed with Sterling’s badge. The Wrangler comes with an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well. Other standard features include:

  • Eight-speaker Alpine premium audio system
  • Rearview camera
  • 60:40 split-folding rear seats
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System

This Wrangler is powered by the stock 2.2-liter, MultiJet mill that makes 197 horses and 332 pound-feet of torque.

Power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV takes eight seconds to hit the 60 mph mark and the top speed is rated at 112 mph. It also features a next-gen Dana 30 solid front axle and a 3.21 rear axle ratio. Stuff like Cruise Control, Hill Descent Control, and Electronic Stability Control comes as standard. To protect the transfer case, a skid plate is offered as well.

How Much Does It Cost?

Sterling is asking £52,995 for this Wrangler. That is approximately $65,500. However, it must be noted that the car is pre-worshipped. The previous owner clocked in just 500 miles, so it is technically brand new, but you will be the second owner on paper.

Final Thoughts

This U.K.-spec’d SUV is a right-hand-drive model, so you probably won’t be able to get it to the States. It seems a little expensive for what’s on offer. Even if I could get it to the States and drive it here, I’d still choose to go for the Wrangler Rubicon and make a few aesthetic mods as per my needs and requirements.

While I like the overall changes made to the Wrangler, I would’ve preferred if the signature Jeep grille was retained. Sterling could’ve slapped its own badge instead of Jeep’s if it wanted to make the SUV stand out. But, overall, it looks swell.
