The time has finally come; we’ve gotten a chance to spend quality time behind the wheel of the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL. Jeep flew us out to the deserts of Arizona for our first view of the Wrangler since it debuted the week prior at the 2017 L.A. Auto Show.
We’ve coved the new Wrangler to death with nearly a dozen articles focused on various aspects of the Jeep, and most recently, our driving impressions, pricing information, and fuel economy. We can say the new Wrangler is wholly improved and in no way less capable off-road. 2018 Jeep Wrangler Priced at $26,995
Jeep has announced pricing for the all-new, 2018 Wrangler JL. As expected, the costs have risen for each trim level. The base Sport two-door starts at $26,995 – a full $3,000 more than the equivalent outgoing Wrangler JK. The price hike continues throughout the lineup, with the two-door Wrangler JL Rubicon costing $3,350 more at $36,995. The four-door 2018 Wrangler JL Sahara starts at $37,345, which is $3,100 more than the JK version.
While the increase is steep, the hike can be explained by Jeep’s development costs, the Wrangler’s new aluminum components and strong steel frame, the new drivetrain options, the new hard and soft tops, and the vastly improved interior. Add to that Jeep’s need of relocating the Wrangler’s assembly to make room for the upcoming Wrangler-based pickup while continuing the Wrangler JK’s production into the first few months of 2018.

Driving the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL
Much hoopla has been made over the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL. Enthusiasts around the world and the massive aftermarket scene have been hanging on every word written about the first new Wrangler in a decade – and for good reason. The JL represents the first reworking of the Wrangler since it exploded in popularity thanks to the addition of four doors with the 2007 Wrangler Unlimited JK. Everybody from the hard-core rock crawler to the average soccer mom wants to know how this new Wrangler drives.
Thankfully, the wait is over.
Jeep flew us out to Tucson, Arizona in early December for the Wrangler JL’s first U.S.-based media event. The southwestern territory offers an interesting mix of smooth, flat roads through valleys and bumpy, twisty roads through the rock-strewn hills north of town. And of course, off the pavement lies nothing but inhospitable terrain filled with cactuses, scorpions, venomous snakes, and rocks after rocks with more rocks piled on top. It was the perfect place to test the new Wrangler’s mettle.

Watch the 2018 Jeep Wrangler’s Soft Top & Windshield in Action
The brand new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL has plenty of improvements throughout, not the least of which are its updated Sunrider soft top and redesigned folding windshield. Unlike before, the new soft top uses no zippers or fussy Velcro to attach its side windows. An innovative sliding plastic channel allows the side window panels to easily slip into place. Securing the bottom and end pieces are still done by snapping the top into channels on the Wrangler’s body and cage. It’s the most simple soft top in the Wrangler’s history.
Likewise, the windshield has been made much easier to operate, though it’s not as easy as the two hand-nuts that held the Wrangler YJ’s windshield in place. Here, only four bolts hold the windshield frame and glass to the now-permanent A-pillars and horizontal support. Jeep supplies a ratchet and T40 Torx bit to remove the bolts, along with the socket to remove the windshield wiper arms from their shafts. The whole process takes less than four minutes.
The windshield is held down by brackets that loop through the rubber bump stops on the hood, or the entire windshield can be removed by undoing the hinge nuts with the supplied T50 Torx bit – the same driver used for the door hinges.

A Detailed Look At the 2018 Jeep Wrangler’s Dashboard
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL is finally here and its new interior is one of its best selling points. The seats are more comfortable, there is more storage room, the materials are all nicer, and the dash has way more functionality baked in. From the buttons on the steering wheel to the dual-zone climate controls, the JL’s dashboard makes for a much better user experience over the outgoing Wrangler JK.
We’re going to take a quick look at Jeep’s improvements to see exactly what has changed. Of course, the Wrangler JL still comes in several trim levels, so not every feature will be available on all models.

What Separates the Rubicon from the Wrangler’s Other Trims
The Rubicon model has become synonymous with the Jeep Wrangler for hard-core off-roading, despite its relatively recent introduction on the 2002 Wrangler TJ. The Rubicon trim has remained a part of Wrangler history since, including the jump to Jeep’s all-new 2018 Wrangler. The Rubi is now more capable than ever thanks to an improved suspension system, use of the 2018 Wrangler’s stronger frame, improved skid plates, and lower gearing thanks to the new transmissions choices.
But the Rubicon isn’t just about mechanical advantages. There are aesthetics advantages, too.
Most notably, the Wrangler Rubicon comes with steel rock sliders that protect the vulnerable rocker panels under the doors; there’s an available steel bumper that easily holds an electric winch; and new for 2018, the front fenders are taller so owners can run 35-inch tires without having to modify a thing. The 2018 Wrangler’s Cargo Area is Ready For Anything
Jeep has added several new features to the 2018 Wrangler JL’s cargo to make it more functional. First, the cargo area is larger thanks to the JL’s 2.4-inch longer wheelbase. The Wrangler JL Unlimited’s cargo space now measured 31.7 cubic feet behind the second row and 72.4 cubic feet with the 60/40-split bench folded flat. That’s up from the Wrangler JK Unlimited’s 31.5 and 70.6 respective measurements. Though slight, the improvement still means more storage.
But Jeep isn’t expecting its customers to simply toss in their belongings. No, Jeep added the new Trail Rail system to help secure items in the back. It consists of two aluminum rails in the floor, and one mounted to the inside of the tailgate. Slidable tie downs help secure cargo, and we all know the aftermarket will devise tons of products that utilize these rails. Mopar already has several products available.
The system’s technical name is the Trail Rail Cargo Management Group, and it’s optional on the Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon. The Trail Rail system can even be had in the two-door Wrangler, as well.
Another interesting feature is the flat spot on the tailgate, just above the door striker and engraved data plate. It’s the perfect shape for holding a drink while parked. It’s a small but ingenious detail that Jeepers will be delighted to discover.
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara Spied with $45,000 Base Price!
Everyone knew the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL would be more expensive than the outgoing, decade-old Wrangler JK. A $1,000 to $2,000 increase in price sounded reasonable for all the improvements made. Well, it seems FCA figures it can charge exorbitantly more for the new Wrangler - $10,000 more on the luxury-minded Sahara trim, to be exact.
The news comes from none other than JLWranglerforums.com, the seemingly official leaker of all things JL over the least two years. A user posted a spied Monroney window sticker showing a base price of $45,000 for an Unlimited Sahara equipped with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and manual transmission.
Now, there are a few caveats to this information. The pricing might not be completely finalized, so there’s a chance the price is inaccurate. Also, the options list only shows Jeeps RPO codes with no breakdown in pricing for each item. There’s a chance the options’ pricing is somehow including in the “base price” of $45,000. If so, that would make the true, pre-options base price far less. Jeep is apparently keeping its $1,095 destination charge from before.
Of course, the base Sport trim will be significantly less expensive than the leather-lined Sahara, especially in two-door form, so modest Jeepers should still be able to find a good deal. The Rubicon, however, will be more expensive than the Sahara thanks to its extra off-road hardware. This tiered system has been around for a while, so that’s old news. What is news is Jeep’s potential of pricing itself out of the active lifestyle, off-roading, and consumer base that made the Wrangler JK so popular.
2018 Jeep Wrangler Can Tow as Much as 3,500 Pounds
The Jeep Wrangler is basically the embodiment of a sport utility vehicle. After all, it did invent the category way back in 1941. Today, most SUVs are truck-based family haulers that don’t mind big loads on their trailer hitches. Crossovers, on the other hand, are generally limited in their towing capacities, with a few notable exceptions The Wrangler is a different beast altogether. Despite its body-on-frame construction, its off-road-biased suspension and relatively small footprint leave it with a compromised tow rating compared to say a mid-size pickup like the Chevrolet Colorado. Still, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler provides adequate towing capabilities for most active users.
The two-door Wrangler can tow up to 2,000 pounds via its optional two-inch receiver hitch. That’s the case with both the standard 3.6-liter V-6 and the optional 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The longer, four-door Wrangler Unlimited has an increased tow rating of 3,500 pounds thanks to a heavier curb weight and its longer wheelbase. Again, both engines will do the job. The same is true for the manual and automatic transmissions.
Sadly, we don’t expect the 2019 Wrangler Unlimited with its optional 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 to boast any towing increases, either. It all comes down to what the chassis and suspension will handle. Thankfully, the upcoming Jeep Scrambler pickup will have an improved tow rating rumored at 6,500 pounds.

2018 Jeep Wrangler 2.0-liter Turbo Specifications
Those new to the Jeep brand might gawk at a four-cylinder Wrangler, but the Jeep has a strong history with this cylinder count. In fact, the first Jeep, the 1941 Willys MB, came with a four-cylinder. Four-cylinders were offered through the years, with the most recent being in the 1997-2006 Wrangler TJ. In fact, the outgoing Wrangler JK is the only Wrangler/CJ not available with one. That makes the return of a four-cylinder sort of a retro move. Even the engine’s name (Hurricane) is a throwback to older days
The new engine shares nothing with the old Hurricane, of course. It’s a member of FCA’s Global Medium Engine family and is loosely related to Alfa Romeo’s 2.0-liter found in Giulia sedan and Stelvio crossover. In the Wrangler, the Hurricane makes an impressive 270 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 295 pound-feet of torque at only 3,000 rpm. That torque number actually beats the output of the 3.6-liter V-6 by 35 pound-feet! Better still, the Hurricane makes its power lower in the rev range, likely making it a better choice for serious off-roading. Horsepower-wise, the Hurricane only gives up 15 ponies to the V-6.
The natural trade-off is fuel economy. Neither Jeep nor the EPA have announced official numbers, but expect to see upper 20s on the highway, lower 20s around town, and a combined mpg of around 25.
The Hurricane’s secret is its mild hybrid system. The engine uses a belt-starter-generator to help twist the engine’s crankshaft at lower revs. The system is also designed to provide better auto stop/start performance while also improving low-end throttle response before the turbo spools up.
Impressively, the turbo-four loses no ground in the towing department to the V-6. Jeep says the two-door Wrangler will tow 2,000 pounds and the four-door Wrangler Unlimited will lug 3,500 pounds – regardless of engine choice. Sadly for manual transmission fans, the Hurricane is only offered with the new eight-speed automatic.
The Hurricane will be available in all trim levels from the base Sport, to the luxury-minded Sahara, and even the rugged Rubicon. Pricing has not been announced, but the Hurricane will be an option over the standard 3.6-liter V-6.

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL can certainly be described as “all-new,” but the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 is largely carry-over from the outgoing Wrangler JK. Still, it’s got a new fuel-saving feature: Auto Start/Stop. The system automatically turns the engine off when stopped at traffic lights or other similar driving scenarios. Like other start/stop systems, the engine restarts automatically when the brake pedal is released, giving the engine time to rev back to idle before the driver has time to press the throttle. The result is less overall fuel consumption.
As for the rest of the Pentastar, the engine retains its 60-degree V shape; its aluminum, deep-skirt block; aluminum alloy heads; its chain-driven, dual-overhead camshafts with four valves per cylinder; its 11.3:1 compression ratio; and its multiport fuel injection. The horsepower and torque specs also remain unchanged at 285 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 260 pound-feet of torque at 4,800 rpm.
The V-6 can be paired with both the six-speed manual transmission or the eight-speed automatic – both of which are new to the Wrangler for 2018. Towing remains the same, too. The Wrangler two-door can pull 2,000 pounds while the Wrangler Unlimited, the four-door model, will pull 3,500 pounds.
As for that all-important fuel economy, Jeep says the V-6 will get 18 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined with the automatic transmission and 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined with the manual gearbox. That’s a marked improvement over the 16/20 mpg with the manual-equipped JK and 16/21 mpg with the JK’s old five-speed automatic.

The New Jeep Wrangler JL Has Made its L.A. Debut!!!!
It’s been a long time coming, but the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL is finally here. It debuted in all of its two-door and four-door glory, sporting three different engines, two transmissions (including a new eight-speed auto,) fresh interior design with a new Uconnect infotainment system, body-on-frame design, and more than 75 available safety and security offerings. There’s already a host of performance parts from Mopar available and, with four different trims available (three for the two-door plus the Sahara trim on four-door models) there’s definitely an option for anyone with a hankering for a new off-road but road-capable machine.
According to Jeep, all models include a trail-rated badge due to the outstanding four-wheel drive system that includes a 2.72:1 crawl ratio on Sport and Sahara models, a 4LO ratio of 4:1 and locking differentials on Rubicon models, and the ability to ford up to 30-inches of water when properly equipped. Furthermore, the new JL Wrangler can haul as much as 3,500 pounds and can be had with 17-inch off-road wheels. Rubicon models get 33-inch tires as standard equipment while all models get a standard approach angle of 44 degrees, breakover angle of 27.8 degrees, departure angle of 37 degrees, and a minimum ground clearance of 10.9 inches.
When equipped with the 3.6-liter Pentastar, the Wrangler will offer 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The new 2.0-liter, hybridized, four-cylinder offers as much as 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, and – for those of you who really want some serious torque – the new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 will deliver 260 horsepower and an astonishing 442 pound-feet of torque on demand. That new eight-speed auto offers up decent economy and simple stop-and-go driving and can be equipped on any model. Real Jeep fanatics will surely go for the three-pedal-and-six-gears standard offering with a revised shift pattern, shorter throws, and a 4.41 ratio for better efficiency, higher speeds, and quick acceleration. All told it’s not bad, but we’ll let you decide for yourself once we update our full review. 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sheds Some Weight; Gains Capability
It’s hard to improve on an icon; people simply expect too much. Yet somehow, Jeep has accomplished the impossible with the all-new 2018 Wrangler JL. Every nut and bolt has been improved for better on-road comfort, off-road performance, and even fuel economy. Much of this is credited to the 200-pound weight reduction thanks to aluminum doors, hood, windshield frame, and tailgate. The diet combines with Jeep’s new hybridized 2.0-liter Hurricane turbo-four and an eight-speed automatic for the best fuel economy ever in a Wrangler. Even the familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 returns with fuel-sipping improvements. But those chasing the ultimate fuel efficiency will love the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 coming in 2019.

Watch the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Tackle Rocks in New Zealand!
There’s currently a press junket for high-end members of the automotive media taking place in New Zealand, and video is starting to come in. This particular one shows a white, two-door Wrangler Rubicon clawing its way up slick rocks in some far-flung valley on the other side of the globe. It’s clear the Wrangler hasn’t lost any of its grit and capability.
We can see new Wrangler Rubicon has dumped the old BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain KM tires for BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires. The tires are light-years ahead of the Mud-Terrains in terms of tire technology and grip in all but the thickest of mud. What’s more, the KO2s will definitely improve the Rubicon’s on-road driving dynamics. The tires are mounted on Rubicon-specific, 17-inch wheels. The sharp design has painted spokes and a bright ring around the edge.
The two clips within the video also show the different configurations of the new soft top. At first, the windows are installed, then towards the end, we can see the windows removed and the roof still in place.
As for the engine, the second clip has some telling engine noises. Though we can’t be completely sure, it sounds like a four-cylinder. If true, it would be the Wrangler’s new 2.0-liter turbo-four with the iconic Hurricane name.

Jeep Drops Official Images of 2018 Wrangler Interior
Jeep is slowly debuting the all-new 2018 Wrangler bit by bit before its official debut at the 2017 L.A. Auto Show on November 29. The latest piece is a pair of photos showing the Wrangler’s brand new interior – and boy; the improvements are awesome. Not one screw or plastic bit carries over from the outgoing Wrangler JK. That’s definitely a good thing. The new Wrangler JL is vastly more technologically advanced and fitted with way more creature comforts.
Though we’ve seen teases of the new interior before, this is the first time Jeep has shown the full monty. Both shots are of the same loaded-out Rubicon model, which gives us the complete scope of what’s available. The model features the latest Uconnect system, a large driver information screen with digital auxiliary gauges, dual-zone climate control, the standard assortment of steering wheel controls, dash-mounted window switches, a bank of four auxiliary switches for aftermarket components, and a toggle switch to control the Rubicon’s front and rear locking differentials. A separate button controls the disconnecting from sway bar.

BIG LEAK: 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Owner’s Manual!
Talk of the upcoming and all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL has been nearly limitless. At least once a week we’ve heard source-fed rumors or seen spy photos of Wrangler test mules running around. Well, the wait is finally over – sort of. A PDF copy of the new Wrangler’s user guide and owner’s manual turned up online. And as you’d expect, the books are full of nitty-gritty details showing everything from the exterior design and the updated interior to how the infotainment system works and the power-retractable hardtop operates. Yep, this is basically the Full Monty.
Of course, the 340-page User Guide and the 608-page Owner’s Manual don’t showcase the 2018 Wrangler’s full design details and don’t get into specifics like horsepower and torque. However, we now know just about everything else. It’s clear Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has kept the Wrangler’s off-roading spirit alive while creating a more livable, user-friendly SUV that doesn’t have so many compromises as the outgoing Wrangler JK. Most notably, the interior is much improved and includes a choice of the Uconnect 4 system in a 7.0-inch or 8.4-inch screen, dual-zone climate controls, push-button starting, a 3.5-inch or 7.0-inch driver information display in the gauge cluster, and door checks that prevent the doors from freely swinging. Don’t worry, though, the doors are just as easily removable as the JK’s doors. Oh, and there’s now a backup camera – finally.

Are You Ready For the 2019 Jeep Wrangler JL?
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL might not last long. In fact, the all-new Wrangler might only enjoy one month of production. But that’s not because Jeep is canning its multi-million dollar makeover of its bread-n-butter SUV, rather, Jeep will begin manufacturing 2019 model year Wranglers on January 2, 2018. Yep, only one month after the Wrangler JL arrives in showrooms; the 2018 model will make way for the upcoming model year – at least that’s according to an insider source for Allpar who is said to be reliable.
This is an unprecedented move by Jeep to begin production of the next model year so early within the calendar year. Generally, automakers wait until mid-summer to release the next model year, with the first big waves of stock hitting dealership showrooms in August and September. So why January 2? Well, January 1 is a holiday, making the 2nd the earliest legal date Jeep can build a 2019 production vehicle.
Putting the pieces from several rumors together, this could mean all 2018 Jeep Wrangler JLs will be the four-door Unlimited version. A past report suggested the two-door Wrangler wouldn’t arrive until February 2018. It also means the Wrangler JL-based pickup truck, the Scrambler, could begin production within the same 2019 model year.
That same insider source for Allpar had also broke news the current Jeep Wrangler JK will remain in production through March 2018. It was later confirmed by Jeep that the JK would overlap production of the JL into the 2018 calendar year. That will likely give Jeep the chance to deplete its stockpile of JK parts while smoothly transitioning into JL production and supplies for dealerships across North America and around the world.
Is This The next Jeep Wrangler Two-Door?
The next-generation Jeep Wrangler is nearing its debut date and the anticipation is nearing pandemonium. But before its unveiling expected at the 2017 L.A. Auto Show in late November, the sleuths at JLWranglerForums have rendered what they think the two-door Wrangler will look like. Codenamed JL, the 2018 Wrangler won’t be a dramatic departure from the current, 2007-2017 Wrangler JK, but rather an evolution of the iconic design that dates back to the 1941 Willys MB general purpose military vehicle. Nevertheless, the new Jeep will be brimming with updated technology, new powertrains, and tons of user-friendly features.
The Wrangler JL two-door rendering matches up quite well with the camouflaged test mules seen slogging around in different parts of the country. The short-wheelbase Jeep uses all the same design elements as its four-door brother, but with no rear doors. The two-door sill can seat five, though three across in the rear bench is a pinch and getting back there isn’t as easy without dedicated doors. But the plus side: the two-door Wrangler will be the off-roading champ of the JL lineup thanks to its shorter wheelbase (and therefore better break-over angle) and slightly lighter weight. Speaking of weight, a few of the Wrangler’s body panels are expected to be aluminum, though most of the body will be stamped from steel. And of course, the Wrangler will continue to use solid axles at each end, ride on coil springs, and have a body-on-frame construction – just as God intended.
The 2018 Wrangler JL does have a few exterior features worth mentioning. First, the front bumper has a new, more functional design. It might be limited to upper trim levels, but hopefully not. The daytime running lights and turn signals are incorporated into the front fenders. While it looks cool, the aftermarket will have to overcome this when designing stubby fenders for large-diameter tires. The engine bay vent is expected here, as well, nestled neatly behind the front fenders. A strong character line below the windows helps divide the Wrangler’s top and bottom halves. Last but not least, the rear bumper now holds the license plate – a big departure from the body-mounted plate on the CJs and Wranglers that have come before. And of course, those taillights are designed to look like Jerry Cans, a design feature Jeep first incorporated into the Renegade.

Holy Toledo! 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Breaks Cover
Well, it’s finally happened – the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL has been spotted without camouflage. The next-generation Jeep was reportedly spotted inside Jeep’s Toledo assembly plant and sent to our friends at JLWranglerForums. The grainy photo was undoubtedly not supposed to be taken, as evidenced by the limited view it affords of the new Wrangler Unlimited. Still, there are plenty of details to pour over.
First, it’s clear this is a four-door Wrangler Unlimited, otherwise known as the JLU. It’s lack of badging, knobby tires, and rock rails suggests this is a Sport model, though its hood features vents – a previous sign of an upper-class model or special edition. The windshield bump-stops on the hood have been redesigned, too. Also visible is the side vent integrated just behind the front fender. It’s smaller than anticipated, but thankfully doesn’t distract from the Wrangler’s classic lines. And speaking of lines, the cowling panel and doors have strong creases, helping break up the flat, vertical sides seen on the previous Wrangler JK. New side mirrors are present, too, with integrated turn signals. Gone are the push-button door handles, replaced with pull-style handles in black. The front fenders carry a new shape and appear molded from richer, higher-quality plastic. This particular Jeep has the soft top option, which we’re glad still exists. Unfortunately, the photos don’t show much of the interior, beyond the black seats covered in protective plastic. Of course, at this rate, we’ll have a full view of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL long before its official debut at the 2017 LA Auto Show in November.

Juicy Jeep Wrangler JL Details Leaked, Including Full-Time 4WD!
Fiat Chrysler can’t keep the cat in the bag with its upcoming 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL. The latest leak is massive in scale, unloading details of trim packages, paint colors, and order codes, complete with all their corresponding options. The info comes straight from FCA’s online dealership ordering system via the fan forum JLWranglerForums. Image screenshots confirm the authenticity while giving an unprecedented glimpse at what Jeep’s internal operations. This leaves only the final design, engine output specs, and MSRP to speculation. But with the Wrangler’s debut scheduled for the LA Auto Show in November, there’s still plenty of time for more leaks.
Leading this batch of leaks is the addition of a power-retractable soft top, the conformation of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder and 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6, the axing of the luxury-minded Sahara trim for the two-door Wrangler, and the debut of a full-time 4WD system reserved exclusively for the four-door Sahara. Jeep purists shouldn’t fret, though – the Sport and Rubicon trims return, along with an optional Heavy Duty Electrical Group (supposedly for running extra lights and a CB radio), and something called the “Trail Rail Management System.” Six tire and four wheel options are present, too, with wheels sized at 17 and 18 inches. Seven color choices will be offered, along with the return of a tan soft top. The AEK Electronic Infotainment System Group includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Alpine returns as the premium audio system.

2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Hard Rock – Driven
Jeep is hardly the oldest automaker, but it’s arguably one of the most iconic. Its premier vehicle, the Wrangler, is slathered in blue-blooded Americana and glorified war history that transcends our continent and into every corner of the globe. Show anybody anywhere that seven-slotted grille and round headlights, and you’ll be rewarded with “Jeep!”
It’s no secret Jeep is completely revamping the Wrangler for 2018, giving it new life with more creature comforts and technology while not diluting any of its rugged off-road capabilities. But before that happens, we’re talking a close look at the current version, the Wrangler JK. It debuted in 2007 and has undergone relatively few changes. Jeep upgraded the interior in 2011 and swapped in the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 in 2012 to replace the lazy 3.8-liter V-6. Beyond that, Jeep has relied on special editions to keep the Wrangler fresh. But despite the on-paper stagnation, the Wrangler has exploded in popularity. Jeep went from selling 80,000 Wrangler TJs in 2006 to 202,702 Wrangler JKs in 2015. Much of that can likely be attributed to the Wrangler Unlimited, the four-door version of the two-door SUV. Families could finally justify a Wrangler for both commuting and weekend getaways. Then came the explosion in aftermarket support from companies solely devoted to selling custom parts for the Wrangler. The Jeep community grew and folks hopped on the bandwagon. And who wouldn’t?
