The 2023 Kia Soul comes with the typical facelift traits - redesigned exterior, new features on the inside, and some tweaks under the hood

Just like the Nissan Juke, the SOUL has a boxy design that helps it stand out in the crowd. Of course, over its relatively short history, the SOUL stopped being as angular as it was when launched back in 2008, but still, it is very easy to recognize for what it is.

The third generation arrived in the States for the 2020 model year, and since then, it suffered minor changes constantly, including dropping the manual gearbox for the 2022 model year. The 2023 model year will once again offer some changes, including losing the 201-horsepower, 1.6-liter gasoline engine.

What changes does the 2023 model year offer?

Going forward, the SOUL will offer a simplified lineup: LX, S, EX, GT-Line, GT-Line Tech trim lines, which means that the Turbo and the X-Line are dropped. All models will be offered with just one engine: a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder that produces 147 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 132 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm. As we already mentioned, the turbocharged 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder, which produces 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque will be canceled.

A few updates are also offered on the outside. The model retains its usual bold look, but the front fascia is all new. The engine grille receives a new pattern, while both the headlights and the fog lights are redesigned. LED technology is offered as an option. Both, the Daytime Running Lamps and the turn signals, receive updates too. The rear fascia is slightly updated too and so are the taillights.

The car will be offered with the same paint scheme as before, but Kia is offering new two-tone paint programs: Clear White with Fusion Black roof, and Surf Blue with a Fusion Black roof. Also, new 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels will be offered as an option.

The interior remains pretty much unchanged, with the only update being the 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation now offered across the lineup. Also, for the 2023 model year, there is a new LX Technology Package that includes Blind Spot Collision Avoidance (BCA), Rear Cross Collision Avoidance (RCCA), and 16-inch alloy wheels.

“The Soul defined a whole new segment of small cars when it first entered the Kia lineup and it continues into the 2023 model year with as much fun, practicality and style as ever,” said Steve Center, COO & EVP, Kia America. “The basic form remains, which is what more than 75,000 happy Soul owners loved so much about the funky runabout last year, representing a nearly 5 percent increase over sales in 2020. The new 2023 Soul is set to continue that trend with its refreshed design inside and out, advanced technology and feature-packed trims.”
