The Korean automaker Kia has officially released details about the next generation Sportage SUV, the 2011 Kia Sportage.
Sharing the same platform with its compatriot, the Hyundai Tucson, the 2011 Sportage looks to have the leg-up on the Tucson in terms of being a little bigger and wider, which should translate into having a roomier interior.
The design for the 2011 Sportage also seems to have benefitted from the supervision of Peter Schreyer, whose previous design work with Audi has seemingly translated into some of the aesthetic design cues that can be noticed in the new Sportage, including sharper curves, and a completely revamped front end that previous Sportage models didn’t come in.
Featuring a fresh, bold, athletic and sporty design; longer, lower and wider than the previous generation model, the new Sportage will offer more space for people and cargo, with improved ride quality thanks to the longer wheelbase; the new Sportage will go on sale later this year, with a choice of both diesel and gasoline engines following its debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show.
Updated 07/21/2010: Kia today announced prices for the 2011 Sportage that will go on sale in USA at a price of $18,295 for the base trim that includes: air conditioning, power windows, door locks and mirrors, SIRIUS® Satellite Radio capability with three months complimentary service, Bluetooth wireless technology and MP3 connectivity.

Earlier this month Kia announced it will bring a new concept car to Geneva, that it called, "a great looking MPV".
We were skeptical about reporting on MPVs, but we had to post this one again when we saw the windshield. The No 3 Concept features a windshield that is continuous piece of glass that isn’t supported until it is out of the driver’s sight line. Of course this is only for the concept and won’t make it to a production car. Still, that’s a cool little innovation that we wouldn’t mind in a car, that is until a rock cracks it; and we have to pay the replacement costs.

Hmmmm a new van from Kia, unless it brings something really special, this may be the last time this MPV appears on TopSpeed.
Kia unveiled today at the Geneva Motor Show the three SOUL Concepts - all three being closely related to a new production car which will make its World Premiere at the Paris Show in September.
The three Soul Concepts are: Diva, Burner and Searcher. The Kia SOUL Diva has been created as a fashion accessory for a style-conscious young-at-heart woman who regards her car to be as important as her entire outfit. SOUL Diva is like a supermodel with an aura of glamour, a bit flashy but playful and fun!
The Burner is the ´bad boy´ of Kia´s three new concept characters. A ´show-off´ complete with dragon tattoos. From the outside, it is a mean, totally black beast with sparse flashes of scarlet. The tattoos are gloss black on the black satin paintwork, which shows a large dragon creeping over the bonnet. On the other side, a small dragon climbs up the C-Pillar.
The Searcher is the concept that provides a haven of tranquility within the urban jungle, a comfort-zone on four wheels. It sets out to capture the spirit of Korean and Far Eastern culture with a focus on achieving personal inner peace and creating a calm cocoon for the occupants. Exuding casual confidence, the colors are muted, the textures are soft and the road presence is discreet.

The Koreans believe in the hybrid-technology. The proof of this is provided by Kia, who will launch at Geneva a prototype of a hybrid Rio. The car gets a 1,4-liter engine under the hood, that will be offered in combination with an electric motor with 66 lbs-ft.
Hyundai has announced last year that it will be adding hybrid vehicles to its lineup. Originally, the Kia Rio hybrid was set to launch in late 2006; however, due to currency issues, Hyundai has pushed back the development of their (...)
