2021 Koenigsegg Agera RS Refinement
Koenigsegg’s aftermarket team can further upgrade the already stunning Agera RSby Ciprian Florea, on
The 2020 Koenigsegg Agera RS Refinement is a unique version of the Agera RS, a supercar that the Swedish carmaker produced from 2011 to 2018 in just 25 units. The Agera RS Refinement is not a brand-new model, but a 2017-model-year car that has been touched by Koenigsegg’s aftermarket team. It all began with a customer car brought in to have a couple of air vents from the One:1 installed in the front hood, but the owner eventually opted for a few more mods, resulting in a completely unique Agera RS. What makes it special? Let’s find out in the review below.
2021 Koenigsegg Agera RS Refinement
What makes the Agera RS Refinement special?
- One:1-inspired front hood
- Extra canards in the front bumper
- Carbon-fiber center stripe
- Engine hood scoop
- New active rear wing
- Jet Black trim
- SmartCluster instrument display
- Standard Agera RS drivetrain
Although it remains a familiar sight when compared to other Agera RS models, this refined version sports quite a few upgrades. In order to integrate the One:1 vents into the design, Koenigsegg replaced the front hood altogether. The company also ditched the standard fang-like carbon-fiber accents with a sleek center stripe that runs from the nose to the windscreen.
The bumper also sports a couple of extra winglets. These elements are made from carbon-fiber and improve the cars aerodynamics. More changes are visible around back, starting with a new scoop on the engine hood, also inspired by the One:1. But the biggest mod is the new rear wing. While the regular Agera RS wing is spring-operated, the new aero element is completely active and controlled by the software in the car.
The revised Agera RS’ exterior is rounded off by small touches such as bolts, logos, accent elements and exhaust pipes finished in Jet Black. Needless to say, it all goes well with the rich red paint and the carbon-fiber elements.
Koenigsegg left the cabin untouched, but it did replace the instrument cluster with the newer SmartCluster unit. Borrowed from the Regera, the SmartCluster features a higher resolution display and a more ergonomic placement of crucial information, all available at a glance. Of course, the SmartCluster also adds a fresh look to the area behind the steering wheel.
Under the hood, the Refinement is a standard Agera RS. But that’s nothing to sneeze at, because the twin-turbo, 5.0-liter V-8 engine packs an enormous 1,160 horsepower and 944 pound-feet of torque. We don’t know whether this specific model is fitted with the optional Megawatt upgrade, but the bundle increases output to a whopping 1,341 horsepower and 1,010 pound-feet of twist. This rating puts the Agera RS on par with the limited-edition One:1 and Agera Final models.
No matter the amount of oomph, the Agera RS is capable of hitting 60 mph from a standing start in less than 2.8 seconds and 186 mph in 12.3 seconds. It’s also worth noting that Koenigsegg set a new world’s speed record for production cars with a factory-spec Agera RS, hitting an average top speed of 277.9 mph in 2017. With the SSC Tuatara record disputed due to inconsistent proof, the Agera RS is still the world’s fastest production car as of January 2021. The Agera RS also set seven more records fro production cars, including:
|0 to 300 km/h||11.9 seconds|
|0 to 200 mph||14.3 seconds|
|300 to 0 km/h||6 seconds|
|200 to 0 mph||6.3 seconds|
|0 to 300 to 0 km/h||17.9 seconds|
|0 to 200 to 0 mph||20.7 seconds|
|0 to 400 to 0 km/h||33.2 seconds|
So why is Koenigsegg advertising an older Agera RS with upgrades? Well, it’s not your regular aftermarket update. Everything upgrade listed here was operated at the company’s facility in Sweden, so it’s basically a bespoke program that will take any Koenigsegg and customize it at the owner’s request. Improving an already stunning supercar is as difficult as it gets and the Agera RS Refinement is proof that Koenigsegg’s aftermarket team is capable of great things.
