Introduced in 2011, the Aventador->ke3624 became Lamborghini's->ke44 latest in a line of range-topping supercars->ke177 that includes iconic names such as Miura, Countach, Diablo and Murcielago.->ke1267 The Aventador represented a major departure from its predecessor, with its design making heavy use of the sharp creases and angular lines previously seen on the limited-edition Reventon->ke2866 and Estoque->ke3287 concept car. While radical by styling, the Aventador inherited the Murcielago's 6.5-liter, V-12 engine. The mill received a brand-new semi-automatic transmission and had its output increased from 670 to 690 horsepower. It's been nearly four years since the Aventador made its highly anticipated debut, and Lambo's most powerful production car continues to impress. As we prepare to enter a new calendar year, the Italian automaker is rolling out yet another special-edition->ke2041 Aventador, one that celebrates one of the greatest collaborations in automotive history.

Dubbed Pirelli Edition, this latest Aventador comes to remind us that all Lamborghinis are equipped with Pirelli tires. The two brands have been at it since 1963, the year Ferruccio established Lamborghini and presented the 350 GTV prototype at the Turin Motor Show. From then on, each and every Lamborghini had its wheels shod in Pirelli tires, the latest of which is the spectacular Huracan.->ke4345 Today, a new vehicle was added to that list, and it comes with a host of unique features inside and out. Check them all out below.

Exterior

Making the Aventador Pirelli Edition special is a bespoke livery that blends matte and glossy finishes. Customers can choose between two options. The first one dresses the Aventador's roof, pillars, side mirrors, hood, and just about any air intake sculpted into the body in matte-black and the rest of the shell in either Giallo Spica, Rosso Mars, Bianco Isis, Nero Aldebaran, Grigio Liqueo or Grigio Ater. The second choice switches from matte-black for the upper parts of the car to gloss-black and pairs it to either Bianco Canopus, Nero Nemesis, Grigio Adamas, and Grigio Titans.

In addition, each livery gets a thin red stripe that runs along the roof and the hood, the side mirrors, and the outer profiles of the air intakes in a nod to Pirelli's iconic branding technique.

Lambo says the Pirelli Edition is also equipped with a standard transparent hood, Dione 20- and 21-inch wheels finished in glossy black, P Zero high-performance tires with red Pirelli logos, and red brake calipers. The latter is available for all exterior combinations expect the Rosso Mars, which comes with yellow calipers.

Interior

No matter the exterior configuration, the cabin comes in just the one flavor. The cockpit is wrapped in black Alcantara with red contrast stitching, while the seats and the headliner get the same red stripe as the exterior. The former also feature Lamborghini and Pirelli crests embroidered in red, as well as leather inserts on the sides. More leather is seen on the door panels, while the dashboard gets a "Pirelli special series" plaque. Everything else remains standard.

Drivetrain

Unlike the exterior and the interior, the Pirelli Edition's drivetrain remains unaltered. That's good news no matter how you look at it, as the Aventador sports a massive, naturally aspirated, 6.5-liter, V-12 engine under its long rear bonnet. The powerplant cranks out a mind-boggling 690 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque.

Power is routed to all corners through a seven-speed, semi-automatic transmission built by Graziano Transmissioni and an all-wheel-drive system supplied by Haldex.

The 60-mph sprint takes only 2.9 seconds, while the quarter mile comes in 10.6 seconds at 137 mph. Top speed is officially rated at 217 mph, but a number of magazines have reported that the Aventador can reach beyond the 220-mph mark.

Prices

Although it hasn't released pricing information for the Aventador Pirelli Edition, Lamborghini says the supercar is available to order from dealers as of December 2014, in both coupe and roadster guises. Expect to pay in excess of $400,000 for one of these special-edition Aventadors. Deliveries are set to commence next summer.

Competition

Ferrari F12berlinetta

Sure, the F12berlinetta has its engine mounted between the front wheels, but it's the most suited Ferrari to go against the Aventador. The LaFerrari is way too powerful for this Lambo, while the 458 Speciale misses nearly 100 ponies. The F12, on the other hand, has 730 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque at its disposal, which come from a 6.3-liter V-12 and are sent to the rear wheels through an F1 dual-clutch transmission.

But despite being more powerful than the Aventador, the Ferrari is a tad slower from 0 to 60 mph, reaching the benchmark in three seconds compared to the Lambo's 2.9-second sprint. Top speed is rated at 211, also below the Aventador's. On the other hand, the F12berlinetta retails from $322,638, making it slightly cheaper than the Lambo. Not that it matters at this level.

Conclusion

Considering Lamborghini and Pirelli have been collaborating since Ferruccio founded his company in 1963, the Aventador Pirelli Edition is a great way to celebrate a cooperation that has lasted for more than half a century. With its inspired exterior liveries, most of which provide the Aventador with a stealthy appearance, and unique interior, the Pirelli Edition will remind customers and enthusiasts of Lambo's exclusive collaboration with Pirelli for many years to come.
