Underground Racing Twin-Turbo Lambo Huracan Goes 257 MPH In Standing Half Mile: Video

A boosted Bull makes lots of speed

Introduced in March of 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show as a follow-up to the Gallardo, the Huracan is currently Lamborghini’s most popular model, selling in droves across a variety of markets. And why not – making it go is a mid-mounted 5.2-liter V-10, which routes as much as 631 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque through a dual-clutch seven-speed transmission. Properly motivated, the 0-to-62 mph sprint is dispatched in 3 seconds dead, while top speed eclipses the 200-mph mark. All very impressive stuff, no doubt, but as is the case, there are some out there who simply crave more. Enter Underground Racing, a U.S.-based tuner that specializes in adding absurd amounts of boost to exotics like the aforementioned Lambo. If you’ve got the money, Underground Racing has the parts you need to scorch the airstrip, as evidenced by this quick 3-minute video.

Shot at the recent Half-Mile Indy Airstrip Attack Event in Marion, Indiana, this video shows what happens when you keep the loud pedal pinned for an extended period of time. All told, the boosted Bull manages an impressive 256.99 mph at the end of the tarmac, a figure made even more impressive when you consider this a full-fledged street car with a full interior. Lamborghini Veneno Vs Ferrari Sergio, The Answer to Supercar Boredom

There are no wrong choice, really

Like most people who eat, sleep, and breathe cars, I often find myself going to online classifieds to see which cars are up for sale. It doesn’t matter the price, the location, or even my ability to actually buy them. I just like looking at them and wonder who’ll end up paying that much money on what effectively are second-hand cars. This week though, I chanced upon two vehicles that don’t count as traditional cars. Heck, “traditional” isn’t even the word I’d use to describe them as supercars. These two ungodly beasts - a Lamborghini Veneno and a Ferrari Sergio - fall into categories unto themselves.

It doesn’t even matter that one of them is being sold for a price of $9.5 million whereas the other costs a “far more affordable” sum of $6.1 million. What got me is that they’re being sold roughly the same time, though not exactly by the same seller. So I thought that, if I had the money to purchase either of these two cars, which one would I buy? Would I splurge on the Veneno or the Sergio? There are obviously no wrong answers; it’s just a matter of taste, preference, or in the case of the Sergio, saving a little over $3 million in the process. Better yet, I asked my colleagues the same question. Given a choice, is it the mind-numbing Veneno or the no less spectacular Sergio?

Lamborghini’s New Alpha-One Smartphone Is The Definition Of Unnecessary Excess

Would you spend $2,450 for a Lambo phone? I didn’t think so.

Part of what makes Lamborghini a premium brand is that it can slap its name on anything and that “thing” suddenly becomes a premium item. No more is this evident than on laptops and smartphones. Remember the Asus Lamborghini VX Series? How about the ZX1 smartphone? Now, the Raging Bull’s likeness will once again be stamped on a smartphone. This one is called “Alpha-One,” and it’s a waste of $2,450.

Now, I will indulge those who think a Lamborghini-branded smartphone is something worth splurging on. The Alpha-One, to its credit, isn’t a shill. It does have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which is supposedly fast and does lots of cool things. It also has four gigabytes worth of RAM with expandable storage, a 20-megapixel rear camera, an eight-megapixel front camera, a fingerprint scanner, a 5.5-inch WQHD display, and an Android Nougat operating system. I’ll give it this much: it’s well-equipped, which is more than what other faux mobile phone brands can say for themselves. Take it a step further and you might even be impressed by its supposed liquid metal frame and Italian handmade black leather back case, which by the way, has its own contrast stitching. On the surface, everything about it checks out as a premium smartphone, and that’s precisely what it’s problem is. As well-equipped as it is, there’s no way that the Alpha-One should cost $2,450, roughly double the price of the most powerful version of the iPhone that’s out in the market today. Then again, that’s the price people will have to pay for it, all because it has “Lamborghini” logo.

Lamborghini’s Future Car Lineup Will Leave Plenty Of Jaws On The Floor

Insane versions of the Huracan and Aventador are being planned for the future

Now that the Lamborghini Urus is close to hitting dealerships, the Italian automaker is setting its sights on its future, and if new reports are to be believed, that future is going to be packed with enough supercar mayhem to quench the thirst of enthusiasts for a generation. That’s because Lamborghini is now thinking big on plans to usurp the likes of Ferrari and McLaren, and it’s doing with so with a rush of iterations for the Huracán to go with big plans for the eventual successor to the Aventador. If Lambo is successful in giving life to these plans, it could potentially swing the tide of supercar sentiment back to the side of the Raging Bull.

According to Automobile Magazine, Sant’Agata is planning to expand the Huracán lineup to include Speedster and Barchetta versions, which effectively will be lightweight versions of the existing Huracán that will be developed with an eye towards infusing these models with racing credentials. Speaking of lightweight offerings, a lighter version of the Huracán Performante is also in Lambo’s plans, as is a Targa version, a configuration we rarely see from Lamborghini. In fact, you’d have to go all the way back to the super limited Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster from 1999 as the last Lamborghini to feature a taiga-style roof. On the higher end of the Huracán range, Lamborghini’s future plans could include a hardcore Superveloce model and an even more hardcore GT3 Stradale version. That’s six potential future variants for the just the Huracán, and that doesn’t even include the Huracán Safari, a never-before-done version that will feature, among other things, a height-adjustable suspension, bigger wheel arches, all-terrain body protection panels, all-wheel drive, and four-wheel steering. Oh, Lamborghini reportedly has big plans for the Aventador’s successor, too.

2017 Lamborghini Huracan Perfomante

Lighter and quicker than ever before

After ten successful years on the market, during which it became the company’s best-selling sports car ever, the Lamborghini Gallardo was replaced by the Huracan in 2014. Boasting a new design inside and out, a revised drivetrain, and better performance, the Huracan hit the sports car market with a bang, selling more than 1,500 units in 2014 and more than 4,700 in 2016. With some 8,500 examples sold as of early 2017, it sure looks as if the Huracan will surpass the Gallardo’s 14,022-unit record sales in a few years. However, Lambo knows that resting on its laurels isn’t the best thing to do so it’s hard at work to expand the Huracan family. The latest model to join the lineup goes by the name Performante and made its global debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

As the name suggests, the Performante is a higher performance version of the standard Huracan and a successor to the Gallardo Superleggera. Although it was originally believed that the Huracan will also get a Superleggera badge, Lambo eventually decided to replace it with Performante. The name swap is rather surprising given that the high-performance Aventador retained the SuperVeloce name from its predecessor, but I agree that Performante is as fitting as Superleggera for a range-topping sports car.

Overall, the Huracan Performance is a big step forward compared to the Gallardo Superleggera, but it’s also a significant departure from the standard Huracan in terms of aerodynamics and performance. Find out more about it in my review below.

Don’t Hold Your Breath On Scoring An Italdesign Zerouno

All five examples are already sold

Italdesign Automobili Speciali’s first foray into the niche supercar segment has turned out to be a big hit after the newly-minted automaker announced that all examples of the Zerouno supercar are all accounted for. That’s five units, each priced comfortably north of seven figures. All of them. Sold out.

Keep in mind that while the Zerouno does have the beating heart of the Lamborghini Huracán – a 5.2-liter V-10 engine that pumps out 610 horsepower – the car itself has an entirely original body, a design product from the genius designers over at Italdesign. So it’s not a car that’s masquerading as a different model by simply having a different badge on it. The Zerouno is an original work, the first to come out of Italdesign’s Automobili Speciali division that was created earlier this year for the specific purpose of developing its own performance models under the Volkswagen Group umbrella. To this point, the company has actually built just two of the five models of the Zerouno. The first model was introduced at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show to coincide with the brand’s launch. The second is expected to make its debut at Pebble Beach in a little under two weeks. The remaining three models will be built at a later date, each to its customer’s exact specifications.

This One-Off Lamborghini Aventador S Was One Of The Secret Highlights Of Goodwood

It was created solely for the event by Lambo’s Ad Personam division

The Goodwood Festival of Speed once again lived up to its billing. What’s new, right? Classic cars, modern supercars, race cars from all generations, all of them were in attendance at the annual event. That staggering volume is a big reason why Goodwood has become a must-attend event in the auto calendar. On that note, it’s also a good place to find some noteworthy gems that may have been overshadowed by some of its peers. Take for example this one-off Lamborghini Aventador S. There was little peep about it during the run-up to the event and the whole three days that the Festival of Speed was going on. Well, that ends now because we’re giving you some love, dear Lambo.

To be specific, this one-off Lamborghini Aventador S is the work of Ad Personam, the Italian automaker’s very own personalization division. It didn’t receive any hype presumably because it was designed to stand as nothing more than a showcase of Ad Personam’s abilities, but it’s still designated as a one-off creation, meaning that there’s unlikely to be anything like it in the future. Lamborghini didn’t say if the car is going to end up for sale, but considering the motive behind its development, don’t expect to see it in the hands of a customer anytime soon. Chances are it’s going to stay with Lamborghini for the foreseeable future, possibly to serve its purpose as a showcase model of the Italian automaker’s own personalization division. Still, it looked at home at Goodwood in the company of all those cars it was with. That tells you that this one-off Aventador S should have received more attention than it did.

Lamborghini’s Next Performance Car Could Draw Inspiration from the Legendary Miura

Lambo’s CEO is hinting on a 21st century version of the legendary Miura

Is it possible that Lamborghini’s planned brand expansion is going to include a future car that will be inspired by one of its most iconic models? It’s too early to tell at this point, but Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali did tell Automotive News that the Italian automaker is open to creating a “21st-century interpretation” of the Lamborghini Miura. Now may not be the time for Lamborghini fans to lose their collective minds over this possibility, but if it does come to fruition, well, that’s a different story altogether.

The question now is whether there’s more to what Domenicali hinted at regarding the possibility of a Miura-inspired supercar being developed in time for a launch date sometime between 2025 and 2030. The former head of Ferrari’s Formula One outfit didn’t dive into the specifics, but his comments could play into the company’s plans to expand its model portfolio beyond the Avantador, Huracan, and the upcoming Urus SUV. A Miura-inspired supercar would certainly fit in with what Lamborghini intends to do with its model lineup moving forward, and just as important, it would ignite a nostalgic call-back to one of the company’s most famous models. If we do see this car in the future, expect Lamborghini to throw all its might into making sure that his 21st-century version of the Miura lives up to the legacy of the original model. That’s going to be a very high bar to meet, but Lambo wouldn’t be doing this if it doesn’t have something special in store for all of us.

Lamborghini Celebrates The Production Of The 8,000th Huracán

At this rate, the Huracán will be the most prolific Lambo model ever

At the rate it’s going, the Lamborghini Huracán could become the most sought-after model in Lamborghini history. It’s certainly on track to surpass the Gallardo’s record. In fact, the Italian automaker just celebrated the 8,000th unit of the Huracán to come off the production line. Making things more impressive is the fact that it only took the Huracán three years to reach 8,000 sold units. By comparison, Lamborghini sold a little over 3,000 units of the Gallardo in its first three years, according to sales reports released by Volkswagen AG.

If sales of the Huracán maintain this pace for the next seven years, it could blow the Gallardo’s sales record out of the water with a projected tally of around 26,667 units, almost double the Gallardo’s record of 14,022 units sold. Whether the Huracán gets to that number or not is going to be a matter of discussion that will be talked about in growing frequency the closer the supercar approaches that total. For now, getting to 8,000 sold units is a good reason to celebrate if you’re Lamborghini. The Italian automaker knows it had a hit on its hands when the car was launched in 2014. Good thing then that the Huracán has proven itself to be more than just that for the Raging Bull. It’s sold more than what the company presumably expected and if the superior continues its current pace, it’s going to break 10,000 units sold, possibly as soon as the next 12 months. Once it does, expect the narrative surrounding the Huracán’s pursuit of the Gallardo’s sales record to grow, if it isn’t there now already.

Does A Carbon Fiber Body Limb Sound Like A Good Idea?

There’s no doubt Lamborghini is a pioneer in the use of carbon fiber technology. In a lot of ways, the Raging Bull can be considered as the godfather of carbon fiber. That status, coupled with the responsibility of venturing into new frontiers, is spurring Lambo to take its knowledge of carbon fiber to other industries. If everything goes as planned, we could one day see carbon fiber become the material of choice among prosthetic implants and subcutaneous devices in the medical industry.

It sounds a little too far out of reach at this point, but we learned a long time ago to never doubt Lamborghini in matters related to carbon fiber. The automaker even opened the Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory in Seattle, Washington last year to spearhead the development of new applications that can be traced back to carbon fiber. This time, it’s partnering with the Houston Methodist Research Institute to create new forms and iterations of carbon fiber that can serve as better materials than the ones being used in the medicinal industry today. Ultimately, the objective is to create prosthetics that are lighter, more durable, and tolerated better by the human body. Whether that goal is reached isn’t known yet, but if there’s one company that can see it to its completion, it’s Lamborghini. Give the company some time to research and develop this possibility and you can be sure that it’s going to yield some results.

There’s just something about a naturally aspirated engine...

There’s just something about a naturally aspirated engine that really complements one’s manhood. It could be a big-block from the oil-hungry 1970s or something newer that’s a bit more fuel efficient. Either way, there’s a certain feeling you get when you fire it up, and the initial rumble radiates through every atom of your body. Sure, turbos and superchargers are fun, but when you can get sheer, unadulterated power from nothing but engine, there’s just something special about it. While the rest of the world is quickly changing over to smaller turbocharged mills and hybrid or all-electric drivetrains, Lamborghini just isn’t feeling the hype, and we probably shouldn’t expect an all-electric sports car with a Lambo badge anytime soon.

According to reports from Car Advice, Lambo’s research and development boss, Maurizio Reggiani, says that the technology is just too expensive and that they still have years left in which they can stick with the current V-10 and V-12 engines that are now in production. “If you talk about super sports cars at the moment, the PHEVs, the electric energy, in general, it is difficult to think it is suitable for a super sports car because that means weight and packaging – otherwise we cannot achieve handling. With regard to hybridization in our super sports car segment, I do believe that we still have years that we can stay with the actual structure of the [current] engines, both V-10 and V-12.”

Lamborghini’s Fourth Model Could Arrive...In Five Years

Brand expansion could continue depending on Urus sales

It was only a few years ago when Lamborghini set benchmarks to sell 1,000 units per year. Times have changed since then and House Raging Bull has changed with it. Now, Lamborghini is ready to bring out the Urus SUV, it’s third current model and the ticket to carry sales to 7,000 units per year by 2018. But the Urus isn’t the end of the company’s aggressive expansion because a fourth model is on the horizon.

Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali refused to dive into great detail about the fourth Lamborghini model, telling only Car Advice that the company won’t rush into expanding to a four-model family until its current three-model lineup is stabilized. That would require a few years to get the Urus up-to-speed with market forces while helping maintain relevance for its two supercars, the Huracán and Aventador. Domenicali foresees this stability to arrive after the first wave of production, possibly around 2022 or 2023. From there, discussions of a fourth Lamborghini model could start depending on what market trends are taking place at that time. The timetable is still at least five years away, so fans of the Raging Bull shouldn’t get too excited just yet. But, it’s possibly in the cards. That’s more than what anyone could expect a few years back when exclusivity was at the height of Lambo’s priorities.
