The Range Rover Evoque->ke3666 may be classified as a chic SUV, but that certainly doesn't mean that it can't be turned into an off-road monster that isn't afraid to get down and dirty when the situation calls for it.

This is the Evoque Desert Warrior 3, an off-road race car that will be on hand for the yearly festivities of Bonfire Night. One look at the Desert Warrior 3 and you immediately understand why its named as such. The satin black paint finish and the corresponding aerodynamic modifications lend its part to distinguish this beast from the normally posh Evoque.

The Desert Warrior 3 was also fitted with a new set of 16-inch Comp.omotive Atacama Rally Raid wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Desert Race G series tires, thus enhancing the SUV's menacing look and improving its rideability when running roughshod on the off-road terrain. Improved handling was also taken care of by eight new Reiger coilovers.

Under the hood of the Desert Warrior 3 is a 3.0-liter diesel engine that carries 275 horsepower and an astounding 630 pound-feet of torque while mated to a six-speed sequential transmission. That power would probably be more had it not been for an FIA restrictor.

The real rub with the Desert Warrior 3 are the special features it carries. Find out what they are by clicking past the jump.

The Range Rover Evoque Desert Warrior 3's Special Features

Corner Control Valve

The Desert Warrior 3 is equipped with a Reiger-patented Corner Control Valve System, which allows the vehicle to detect whether you're traveling down a straight path or navigating around corners. Whenever it's the latter, the system stiffens the compression damping of the outer wheel, thus lessening the possibility of the SUV rolling and, in turn, allowing the driver to run a softer anti-roll bar.

Rebound Control Valve

If gaining grip is a concern, the Rebound Control Valve was developed to do just that: gain more grip. If the system detects that the wheels are on the ground, it stays on course. In the event that the wheels are in the air, the system softens the rebound damping enabling the wheels to drop to the ground faster.

Lateral Control Valve

Another Reiger-patented system is the Lateral Control Valve. This system takes in effect during compression. In the event the compression is caused by the wheel going up or the chassis going down, the system stiffens up the compression damping, enabling the driver to run the Desert Warrior 3 with a softer and more comfortable basic damper set-up.

Hydraulic Progressive Double Piston

This last system is arguably the most important because it relies on a double-piston system with a damper that has a speed-dependent characteristic. In the event the vehicle is subjected to high damper speed impact, the double piston damping will be stiffer compared to a low damper speed.
