Ever since it made its debut in 2011, the Range Rover Evoque has quickly become one of Land Rover’s most popular models. On top of the Evoque’s sales success, the SUV’s popularity has extended into the aftermarket scene, having been the subject of numerous tuning programs from specialists like Kahn Design, Milner, and Startech, among others. Hamann also counts itself as a proud tuner of the Evoque, having just presented its latest upgrade package for the crossover that includes modest engine upgrades across a handful of Evoque variants. The most potent of these upgrades is for the Evoque Si4, which sees its output increase modestly from 240 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque to 256 horses and 291 pound-feet of twist.

In addition to the Si4, the TD4, eD4, and SD4 versions of the Evoque also received their respective bumps in power. There’s also a modest aero kit for all versions of the crossover, as well as a personalized interior option, a new set of wheels, and new sports springs to aid in the suspension.

This program isn’t the type of kit that can turn the Evoque into a high-riding performance vehicle. The upgrade themselves are subtle and, if you’re the type to want something spectacular, this kit is probably not for you. But, if you want to refine your Evoque in all facets without losing its sporting character, Hamann’s tuning program is a good choice to have. There’s not much style and flair here; just plenty of substance all around.

Exterior

Hamann’s cosmetic and aerodynamic modifications for the Range Rover Evoque consist of a new front bumper with LED daytime running lights, side sills, front and rear wing extensions, and centered exhaust pipes integrated into the rear bumper. The tuner is also offering a new set of 22-inch, 18-spoke-design alloy wheels that Hamann specifically picked out for the crossover.

Interior

There’s nothing that counts as an extensive upgrade as far as the interior goes. But, to Hamann’s credit, it still added a few bits and pieces to the Evoque’s cabin, including new floor mats, pedals and foot rests, and an illuminated door sill with the tuner’s logo.

Drivetrain

Given that the Range Rover Evoque comes in numerous variants, Hamann has prepared separate upgrades for the TD4, eD4, SD4, and Si4 versions of the Evoque. The modification is actually just made up of optimized ignition maps. The results are different for each variant, although the TD4 and eD4 versions of the crossover do get identical power increases to 178 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the Evoque SD4 gets a bump in power to 236 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque whereas the Evoque Si4 gets a modest but still noticeable increase from 240 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque to 256 horses and 291 pound-feet of twist. Hamann didn’t indicate the performance improvements attached to these kits, but with the Evoque Si4, a 0-to-60-mph sprint time of under seven seconds is in the cards, as is a top speed of around 140 mph.

Chassis and Suspension

To accommodate the engine modifications, Hamann is also including lowering springs that drops the Evoque closer 1.18 inches to the ground on all four sides.

Pricing

Hamann has made no mention of the tuning kit’s pricing. Instead, it has options on its website for interested customers to request a price on any of the aftermarket items they’d like to put into their respective Evoque.

Competition

Audi SQ5 By ABT Sportsline

The Range Rover Evoque has no shortage of competitors and one of them is the Audi Q5. Back in November 2015, ABT Sportsline prepared a program for the Q5 that revolved around an engine upgrade package consisting of its “New Generation” tuning program. Given how potent the Q5 already is with its output of 313 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, ABT Sportsline managed to get 360 horses and 517 pound-feet of torque out of the SUV, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in under five seconds to go with an impressive top speed of 155 mph.

Porsche Cayenne by TechArt

Another SUV that can be considered a competitor to the Range Rover Evoque is the Porsche Cayenne, or at least the lower-trim versions of the Cayenne that include the diesel version. Using its TA 058/SD1 power kit, TechArt was able to bring a total of 420 horses and 700 pound-feet of torque out of the Cayenne Diesel, bringing with it an improved 0-to-62-mph time of just 5.2 seconds to go with a top speed of 159.07 mph, slightly lower the SQ5 and noticeably more than what Hamann has on offer for the Range Rover Evoque.

Conclusion

To be honest, I actually expected more from Hamann. It’s not that the program itself is mediocre, but the German tuner has been known for its mind-blowing programs in the past. Sadly, this kit for the Range Rover Evoque doesn’t qualify in that list. For what it’s worth though, some owners of the Evoque could find the merits of an aftermarket tune that’s rounded in all aspects and not necessarily mind-blowing in any one. That’s what this kit is to me. It’s got modification elements in a lot of parts, but none of these upgrades do anything other than their intended functions.
