Himalaya is known to create builds of timeless vehicles. One of them is the Defender, with which the aftermarket company has had a love affair for a long time. Last year, Himalaya worked on the new Defender to create a special edition called Spectre. Now, the company has laid its hand on the renowned moniker to build a 650-horsepower beast that inducts itself into Himalaya’s flagship Summit Series.

What’s So Special About This Defender?

The Himalaya Defender is based on the Defender 110. Up front, it features round headlights. The grille is devoid of any badges and instead, you can see radiator fans peeping from behind. There is a winch on the bumper along with a heavy, functional skid plate underneath it.

Despite the big wheels and tires, there is a pretty big gap between the body and the rollers. The square wheel arches with black plastic cladding give it the off-road stance. The black multi-spoke beadlock wheels look pretty neat, too. The rear features the big spare tire with a swing-open tailgate.

Himalaya has made quite a few changes on the inside as well. The cabin looks plusher and premium. The seats in place are custom-built to make them worth the money you pay for this build. The bespoke interior is evident with all the material used by Himalaya. The dash and doors are covered in high-grade leather, and the Defender comes with some modern-day equipment as well, like the climate control and hi-fi audio system.

What Powers This Defender?

Power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The South Carolina-based company has also equipped new Dynatrac axles. Apart from this, the Summit Series Defender also comes with:

-* New four-link suspension system, including new coilovers and hydraulic bump stops

-* Fox shocks

-* Purpose-built Brembo brake system

-* Roll cage

Final Thoughts

It’s an old-school Defender 110. It’s a Himalaya build. See where I’m going with this? Yeah, don’t expect it to be cheap. The aftermarket company has said that the price for this model will be anywhere between $250,000 and $300,000. Well, the premium is also because this is the flagship product of the Summit Series. There are some other ‘reasonable’ packages as well, starting from about $115,000.
