The previous-gen Defender is one of the most sought-after vehicles in the market. Aftermarket companies acquire it and give it its own unique twists, each one a lot different than the other. Land Rover has jumped on the wagon, too, and come up with a limited-production Defender Works V8 Trophy. The SUV will come with classic looks and a V-8 engine under the hood. The automaker will build just 25 examples, but none of them are earmarked for the U.S. market. The price? A little over quarter-million dollars!

Land Rover Classic has resurrected the retro Defender with a horde of off-road equipment and Camel Trophy-inspired livery. The Camel Trophy was an annual competition held between 1980 and 2000. It was best known for its use of Land Rover vehicles over challenging terrain and included winching trails and timed rally races amongst other tasks.

To make it even more rugged, Land Rover has installed a roll cage, a raised air intake, underbody protection, and an electric winch. The SUV rides on 16-inch steel wheels finished in the same yellow shade as the rest of the body wrapped in mud-terrain tires.

On the inside, it comes with Recaro sports seats. The automaker has installed black Windsor leather all around the cabin with contrast yellow stitching. A beautiful analog clock graces the dashboard and is designed and crafted in collaboration with Elliot Brown. Such retro touches play a big role in builds like these, and it’s nice to see Land Rover not skimp on it.

The Defender Works V8 Trophy comes with a 5.0-liter, V-8 gasoline engine under the hood that makes 399 horses and 380 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all the wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox sourced from ZF. The SUV also features upgraded brakes, telescopic dampers, and a handling kit.

How Much Does It Cost?

Firstly, it’s a classic Defender. Secondly, Land Rover has built it in-house. Thirdly, it is limited to just 25 examples. Such builds don’t come cheap and this one isn’t either. The automaker is asking around $270,000. Unfortunately, it won’t be available for sale in the States.

Land Rover is also organizing one-on-one lessons for the owners to get acquainted with their steads. This will be spread across three days at a 66-mile terrain, which the company says is so challenging that it uses it as a test facility for every new Land Rover.
