The first James Bond movie - Dr. No - was released on 5th October 1962, so 2022 marks the 60th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise. During these 60 years, the Land Rover models were used a lot in all the James Bond movies, so, unsurprisingly, Land Rover will mark the event with a special edition Defender.

It will be a rally-prepared Defender 90 that will compete in the North Wales leg of the 2022 Bowler Defender Challenge. The car will be driven by Mark Higgins - a three-time British Rally Champion and Bond stunt driver in movies like Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time to Die.

What's different on the 2022 Land Rover Defender 90 Rally Special?

This special Defender 90 features a trademark black and gold Bond livery. On the roof and the sides, big, yellow "60" lettering remind you of what the SUV is celebrating, while the black "007" logo is a clear indication of the famous movie.

As the name suggests, the new Defender 90 Rally Special was built on the Defender 90, which means it will be powered by the P300 Ingenium powertrain. In the road-going version, this powertrain delivers 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. While no changes were made under the hood, the rally car does come with a lot of other changes. Land Rover equipped it with improved cooling for the engine and transmission and a sports exhaust system.

The SUV rides on a new set of 18-inch wheels from Bowler wrapped in all-terrain tires, combined with an updated suspension that features modified subframes and new springs.

For the interior, it will get a fully integrated roll cage and racing harnesses, while a spoiler placed on the back of the roof improves the aerodynamic efficiency.

"The New Defender is a tough and capable vehicle when it leaves the production line and I’ve seen it perform really challenging stunts while on the set of No Time To Die. With the race ready enhancements made by the Bowler team and with Claire by my side we are confident we can have a great result," said Mark Higgins.
