2020 Land Rover Defender looks a lot like the 2011 Land Rover DC100 concept
Land Rover announced that it was working on an all-new Defender way back in 2011, when it revealed the DC100 concept. At the time, the design study made many traditional fans of the Defender exclaim that it didn’t preview a vehicle they’d be interested in buying, so Land Rover actually made a second concept in 2016, called LR1, but it didn’t show it to the public - it was an evolution of the DC100 and it actually was the basis for the recently unveiled production Defender.
The 10 Coolest Accessories Available For the 2020 Land Rover Defender
Land Rover finally revealed the new Defender at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show. The Defender was one of the most hardcore off-roaders before people started perceiving it as a premium SUV and not as a pure off-roader. It disappeared into oblivion in 2016 only to return three years later, reinvigorated. The new Defender is a lot more tough and back on track to being a true off-roader once again.
However, Land Rover has introduced it with all bells and whistles one can ask for and a lot of accessories to customize it as per you need. In fact, the accessories on offer have created a lot of buzz and they will be available right from the launch of the SUV. Just to be clear, there are 170 accessories and theme packs available for the Defender. We’ve chosen our pick and here are 10 accessories we found super cool and useful that you must consider if you plan on buying a Defender when it launches. Also note that we’re not going to mention the four default theme packs that Land Rover already has on offer.
The 2020 Land Rover Defender Has Arrived with New Tricks and Old-School Looks
Many automakers today are reviving old monikers, and Land Rover is one of them too. The automaker is finally bringing back the Defender as a 2020 model. The rugged SUV was in production from 1983 to 2016, after which it went on a short exile for a few years. The company teased it a few times and it was even seen in a documentary and on a movie set. But, finally, the wait was over and the SUV made its public debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. Does it still feel as hardcore as the previous iterations?
The 2020 Land Rover Defender Was Revealed via a Leaked Magazine Article
Hype buildup around the launch of the new generation Land Rover Defender has been immense. It was announced a few years ago, but since then the automaker has remained exceedingly quiet on the matter. The new Defender was teased on a number of occasions, though, and it was even shown in full camouflage at major motoring venues like the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Now, thanks to this latest lear, we finally get to lay eyes on the real thing.
Thanks to James Bond, We Now Know Exactly What the 2020 Land Rover Defender Looks Like
It’s been three years since Land Rover discontinued the iconic Defender and the boxy SUV is about to make a comeback through a new generation. Land Rover has already confirmed that the new Defender will debut in September 2019, but we have yet to see it without camouflage. Until today, when someone spotted the SUV on the movie set of the upcoming James Bond movie "No Time To Die" and posted a photo on Instagram. The SUV is camo-free and shows the new design in all its glory.
Land Rover Defender by ECD Auto Design
Land Rover Defender is not a new name. The off-road compact SUV came to life with this moniker in the 1980s, before which it was known as the Land Rover Ninety and Land Rover One Ten. This vehicle went off the production line in 2016, but such was the craze that the automaker had to cave into the customers’ demands, so it rolled out a special edition of the Defender called the Defender Works V-8 in 2018. The Defender, as is with any off-road truck, has been at the mercy of its owners and we have seen many customized versions of the same. But this one particular company called ECD Automotive Design specializes in customizing Defenders. It recently experimented with a customer Defender 130 and the results have made our day.
Leaked LEGO Technic Kit Gives Us Our First Glimpse at the 2020 Land Rover Defender
The Land Rover Defender is coming to the U.S. after an absence spanning more than two decades. But before the 2020 Defender hits our shores, it could be pre-empted by a smaller, but no less awesome, version. This, folks, is LEGO’s latest masterpiece: a 2,573-piece LEGO Technic replica of the iconic Land Rover Defender, complete with a working steering mechanism, a four-speed sequential gearbox, a chassis with three differentials, an independent suspension, and a winch that actually works. Mind you, this is a LEGO Technic version of the OG Land Rover Defender, though, with the specs, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was the real deal. The LEGO Technic Land Rover Defender is scheduled to come out in October, one month after the actual 2020 Defender debuts, presumably at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show.
2020 Land Rover Defender reveals a bit more skin in new photos and video
Production of the all-new 2020 Land Rover Defender is reportedly ramping up at the company’s plant in Nitra, Slovakia. We’re still a few months away from seeing the finished product, though, and many details surrounding it are still not very clear.
We have had our best look at it so far, courtesy of an official video (and photo gallery) that highlighted the fact that pre-production prototype Defenders were actually used by park rangers in Kenya. The video is meant to evoke the Defender’s outdoorsy spirit and its capability in the toughest conditions in the world, but what we were more interested in was to get a better glimpse of of the car itself - and we did, even though the video doesn’t really have any clear closeups of the car.
Land Rover Is Working on a Defender SVR and Here’s the Proof
For decades, the Land Rover Defender made a name for itself as a go-anywhere off-roader with the right stuff to conquer any obstacle in its way. Now, it looks like the nameplate will challenge a new landscape - the racetrack, as evidenced by this spy video showing what appears to be a Defender SVR testing at the Nürburgring.
All-New Land Rover Defender Debuts This September, Goes On Sale In 2020
After years of working on it, Land Rover is going to reveal an all-new Defender this year. The old Defender was phased out in 2016 mainly due to the fact that it did not meet safety standards for both occupants and pedestrians - they couldn’t even equip the old one with airbags, so a ground-up redesign was decided.
The 2020 Land Rover Defender’s Interior Leaks Online, Showing a Huge Leap Forward in Design
Land Rover has been very secretive about its ground-up new 2020 Defender (in the works for over five years now) that will probably make its debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Now, for the first time, we’ve found a photo of the 2020 Defender’s interior, and we’re pretty sure Land Rover is not too keen on it having been shared.
The 2020 Land Rover Defender is Aimed at the Heart of North America
The Land Rover Defender and its boxy appearance won over enthusiasts thanks to its timeless styling and off-road capabilities. The last model, which was largely unchanged since it hit the market in 1983 was discontinued in 2016, and there has been a cry for a new generation ever since. Recently, Land Rover decided to show off one image of the new Defender, and everyone was drooling. But, not as much as you’re going to drool today as Land Rover not only released a handful of official spy shots but has finally confirmed its debut in 2019 as a 2020 model. The best part is that it’s coming to America!
