Lexus shares a special bond with the North American International Auto Show. The brand officially made its debut during the first year of the auto show in 1989. Thirty years later, the brand celebrates the third year anniversary of the LC 500 coupe by unveiling a convertible LC. The best part is that the LC Convertible is not just a concept; it seems to be the real-deal and Lexus has hinted the same.

”I’m Sexy and I Know It”

The LC convertible obviously shares a lot of aspects with the coupe version, like the massive front grille, short overhangs, and a flat deck-lid behind the cabin. The long hood and the steeply raked windshield add to the aggressiveness of the LC Convertible. It comes with a fabric soft-top instead of a folding hard-top that should help in weight management. When compared to the standard LC 500, the LC convertible sits 5 mm lower, but the wheelbase (2,870 mm), width (1,920 mm), and length (4,770 mm) remain the same.

The Posh Interiors Of The Coupe Will Be Seen In Here

On the inside again, the LC Convertible uses quite a lot of the coupe’s equipment - for instance, the large infotainment system, elegantly designed door panels, an asymmetrical dashboard design and a relatively clutter-free center stack with only a few hard buttons.

Powerful Engine For The Hair-Raising Experience

Although no details have been confirmed, we are guessing the powertrain used in the LC 500 will be seen under the hood of the LC convertible as well. Not sure if the hybrid will find its way in the convertible.

What They Had To Say

Speaking about the LC Convertible, Lexus’ Design Chief, Tadao Mori, said, “A production version of this concept would be exhilarating in many different ways. You would see its dynamic lines as you approach, hear its engine when you started it up and feel everything around you once on the road. It would engage the senses in a way that is unique and exciting every time you got behind the wheel”. He also added that "This concept takes the unmistakable design of the LC 500 and re-imagines it as a future convertible. It blends all the best aspects of the original 500 with the dynamic design of an open-air convertible."

Final Thoughts

It is because of statements like these we can safely assume that Lexus has plans to grace its lineup with convertibles. Not to mention, the prototype showcased looks very much like a production-ready version. The LC 500 starts with a price tag of $92,000 and $96,500 for the Hybrid variant. So, expect the prices of the convertible to be north of $100,000 since this will serve as the niche product in the LC line up.
