The Lexus RC is probably one of the most underrated performance sports coupés on the market today. It looks good, has the chops to compete against a car like the BMW M4, and carries a more reasonable price than most of its competitors. In an effort to keep the RC F fresh in our minds, Lexus is launching a special edition version of the coupé, called the RC F Sport Black Line Special Edition. Only 650 units of the special edition RC F will be made, and it’s available across the entire RC lineup.

What makes the Lexus RC F Sport Black Line Edition special

The Lexus RC F Black Line Special Edition gets its status from a number model-exclusive features that no other version of the RC F has. One — or should I say two — of those features is a choice of either glass Caviar or gloss Atomic Silver body colors. Considering that the SE is literally called the Black Line Special Edition, I don’t imagine anybody opting for the Atomic Silver option over the gloss Caviar paint, which just so happens to be a fancy name for “black.” The Caviar paint goes better on the matte black wheels that come standard on RC coupé models. The package also offers a choice between black or orange brake calipers and a smattering of black accents throughout the body, specifically on the front grille and windows. It’s a small design detail, but those familiar with the RC F should be pleasantly surprised over the improvements on the standard chrome trim.

Inside, the special edition treatment continues with more black accents spread throughout the cabin. Orange contrast stitching serves a nice contrast to all the blackness going on. The special edition model’s defining feature, though is the wood-trimmed steering wheel that comes with a shade of black handcrafted by a 200-year-old Japanese calligraphy shop. It’s not visible in any of the preliminary photos Lexus released, but you can be sure that it’s going to attract a lot of conversation when the sports coupe makes its debut at the New York Auto Show at the end of the month.

The special edition RC F also receives quality options, including triple beam LED headlights, Intuitive Park Assist, a moonroof, and the Navigation/Mark Levinson Audio Package.

Best we can tell, there are no upgrades to any of the engines available to the entire RC lineup. That’s a little disappointing, but the good news is that Lexus is offering the Black Line Special across the entire RC lineup, beginning with the base RC 300 and all the way up to the RC 350 AWD. Pricing starts at $51,730 for the RC 300, $53,755 for the RC 300 AWD, $54,660 for the RC 350, and $56,120 for the RC AWD.
