Available only in Australia for the time being, the RX Crafted is based on the Luxury trim and features extra standard equipment. It slots right between the Luxury and F Sport trims, giving customers who want more features but don't want to pay the F Sport premium a new alternative. What Makes the Lexus RX Crafted Stand Out?

- Black body accents - 20-inch alloy wheels - 12.3-inch display - Head-up display - Mark Levinson audio - Available with all powertrains - Priced from AUD$81,351

The Crafted update doesn't alter the RX's exterior dramatically, but it makes it stand out by adding black accents to the front grille and the fog lamp bezels. The mirror caps are also finished in black for a sportier look, while the standard wheels are replaced by 20-inch alloy units. The rear remains unchanged save for the black-painted bumper insert. The latter retains the form of the standard element, but the chrome trim in the center and around the tailpipes is gone, giving the RX's rear fascia a sportier stance. The exterior is rounded off by a standard moonroof.

The Crafted interior is all about added equipment. While the Luxury trim uses an eight-inch infotainment display, the Crafted is updated to the 12.3-inch screen at no additional cost. It also gets the head-up display and the premium 15-speaker Mark Levinson sound system with Clari-Fi technology - features that are usually reserved for more expensive models.

While most special-edition models are restricted to only one drivetrain, the RX Crafted is available with all the powertrains offered with the standard RX. First up is the RX 300, which replaced the RX 200t and uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The unit, which isn't available in the U.S., cranks out 235 horsepower in the Australian model. Next up is the more familiar RX 350, which uses a 3.5-liter V-6 engine rated at 296 horsepower. Finally, there's the RX 450h hybrid with 308 horsepower.

The RX Crafted starts from AUD$81,351, which makes it AUD$7,100 more expensive than the Luxury trim it is based on. The RX 350 Crafted comes in at AUD$88,521, while the range-topping RX 450h retails from AUD$97,260 before options. Only 300 examples will be built.

History Of the Lexus RX

Introduced in 2015, the fourth-generation Lexus RS is sportier than ever and boasts significantly more premium features than its predecessor. It has been received with great enthusiasm in the United States, selling more than 100,000 units in its first two years on the market. In 2016, the RX set a new sales record in the U.S., surpassing its pre-recession benchmark from 2005. After almost three years on the market, the RX lineup was diversified by the addition of numerous limited-edition models.
