Oodles of equipment as standard, plus unique styling to boot

LISTEN 03:55

The compact luxury crossover segment is no cakewalk, with huge competition pouring in from just about every corner of the globe. However, Lexus looks as though it’s holding its own here thanks to the NX. Now, the L badge is polishing up a new limited edition of the five-door and calling it the F Sport Black Line, loading it up with all the trimmings for sharper styling and a nicer experience in the cabin.

Long Name, Loads Of Gear

Just like the Lexus RC Black Line released last year, the Lexus NX F Sport Black Line Edition comes with a host of new aesthetic upgrades and accessories to tempt buyers.

Let’s start outside.

This special edition crossover can be had in one of three colors - Ultra White, Obsidian, or Atomic Silver.

In the corners, the Black Line mounts 19-inch split-six-spoke wheels, which replace the 18-inch units you get with the standard NX F Sport. You’ll also notice the lower body graphic added just above the side skirts, which adds a decent dose of visual aggression to the NX’s striking design.

Moving into the interior, the aural experience is enhanced thanks to a new Mark Levinson stereo, which pumps out as much 835 watts of power through 14 speakers scattered around the cabin.

Speaking of sound, the Black Line also includes the NX’s standard Active Sound Control, which pumps in engine noises through the stereo at adjustable sound levels. You know, because sport.

The rest of the infotainment system includes the Lexus Enform App Suite 2.0 as standard, plus a 10.3-inch Navigation System multimedia display and Remote Touchpad for the user inputs. Standout features include:

  • Predictive traffic info
  • A detour preview
  • ETA calculation
  • Realtime fuel prices

To add in even more comfort and style, the Black Line’s seats are covered in quilted Arctic White and Black NuLuxe (leatherette) upholstery.

Like the rest of the F Sport line, this NX’s front sitters are sporty units with sizable bolsters in the flanks.
Complementing the fresh seats is a black headliner, new floor mats, a new cargo mat, and a key glove to match.

Finally, the Lexus NX F Sport Black Line Edition comes with the Comfort Package as standard, adding in features like a Blind Spot Monitor, heated and ventilated seats up front, a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, park assist, a power rear door with a kick sensor, a moonroof, and an automatically dimming rear-view mirror.

Additional features include the usual F Sport details, like a lower ride height, bigger exhaust pipes, a larger grille, and new side skirts. You also get tech like the Lexus Safety System+ and Lexus Enform Wi-Fi, plus Apple CarPlay support.

Under the hood, you’ll find a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive puts it all to the ground.

Just 1,000 units are slated for production. Pricing starts at $48,575 for models equipped with a front-wheel drivetrain, and $49,975 for models equipped with an all-wheel drive drivetrain.

For reference, the standard Lexus NX F Sport starts at $38,725, which means the limited Black Line Edition adds about $10,000 to the bottom line.

The Lexus NX F Sport Black Line Edition arrives in dealerships this month, with an official public debut at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show.

When it hits the streets, this special edition NX will go up against the Mercedes-Benz GLC class and BMW X1, both of which offer their own variety of special edition models to choose from.

About the author

A driving experience is anything but ordinary in the NX 300 F SPORT. It grabs the senses with its detailed design, handling performance and sound. Now guests have another opportunity to distinguish themselves in the new 2019 Lexus NX F SPORT Black Line Special Edition with additional styling and accessories built on the same popular F SPORT base.

Building on the sporty styling of the NX F SPORT, features such as Lexus Safety System+ and Lexus Enform Wi-Fi (with 4GB of space included for the first year) and Apple CarPlay™ still provide the support needed for a busy lifestyle. The NX F SPORT Black Line vehicles enhance the driving experience through unique styling and design touches on both the interior and exterior of the vehicle.

Elevated Driving Experience with Attention to the Details
Once inside, guests will experience two all-new firsts for the NX – exclusive Mark Levinson® 14-speaker, 835-watt Premium Surround Sound Audio System complemented by unique F SPORT Arctic White and Black seats. The body-hugging, quilted NuLuxe ® sport seat surfaces are exclusive to the F SPORT family, and for the Black Line Special Edition, they are coordinated with a black headliner, unique floor mats, cargo mat, and key gloves.

Guests will appreciate the exclusive 10.3” Navigation System multimedia display for the NX Black Line, accessed with the Remote Touchpad. Traditionally part of an upgrade, the display predicts traffic information, including detour preview, ETA calculation and low-fuel coordination with nearby fuel stations. The subscription-free Lexus Enform® App Suite 2.0 is standard across all models.

Additional upgraded features that come standard in the NX F SPORT Black Line include Comfort Package with Blind Spot Monitor and Heated/Ventilated Front Seats, Power Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column, Intuitive Parking Assist, Power Rear Door with Kick Sensor, Moonroof and Auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror. The Lexus NX 300 F SPORT Black Line brings the sound of the revving engine inside with Active Sound Control (ASC), which brings some of the engine note through the speakers and enhances it, with volume adjustable by the driver. All of which bring the comforts and excitement of driving within the control of the driver.

Accentuated Luxury SUV with Enhanced Exterior Styling
Available in Ultra White, Obsidian and Atomic Silver this limited run of 1,000 NX units will turn heads with its F SPORT 19” split-six-spoke wheels and lower sport body side graphic. These alloy wheels achieve a more aggressive appearance thanks to the lower body alignment and larger exhaust opening (standard on NX F SPORT model vehicles).

With 1,000 units of this special edition crossover in production, the 2019 NX 300 F SPORT Black Line Special Edition will begin arriving at dealerships in February. It has starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of the following:

NX 300 F SPORT FWD - $48,575
NX 300 F SPORT AWD - $49,975

The 2019 NX F SPORT Black Line Edition will be on display at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show and will be joined by the debut of the 2019 LC Inspiration Series.
