LISTEN 06:22

The Lexus RC F is one of the most fascinating two-door coupes on the market. It looks sharp, packs plenty of power, and it drives like a genuine sports car. Unfortunately, the RC F still lacks the verve that some of its German rivals possess. Lexus knows that there’s plenty of room for improvement with the RC F, and with the arrival of this new special edition model, we might see these improvements sooner than we thought. The model is called the Lexus RC F Fuji Speedway Edition, and not only does it pay tribute to the iconic racetrack in the foothills of the world-famous mountain, but, more importantly, it comes with an array of special edition touches that provide that singular appeal that a lot of special edition models possess. Highlights include a distinctive look that’s bolstered by several technical improve Only 60 units of the RC F Fuji Speedway Edition will be made, and while Lexus has yet to release pricing details for the special edition sports car, don’t expect it to close lower than $70,000.

What kind of visual upgrades does the Lexus RC F Fuji Speedway Edition have?

Most special edition models from Lexus are prepared and developed in a way that justifies their status as truly special. The new Lexus RC F Fuji Speedway Edition fits along those same lines. Subtlety is the key term here, as you can’t immediately identify it as a limited-run special edition at first glance, but you know that there’s something different and/or special about it.

On the outside, the two-door coupe wears an exclusive paint — Arctic Blast Satin — that Lexus has never used before.

Arctic Blast creates a semi-matte finish on the RC F that was created using a “unique white paint” process. Lexus left it that so it doesn’t spill all of its developmental secrets, but the paint itself retains a matte finish satin look and is also durable enough to go through an automatic car wash without damaging the overall paint finish of the coupe. If the Arctic Blast Satin finish doesn’t excite you as much as it should, Lexus is also offering the RC F Fuji Speedway Edition in a Cloudburst Gray finish. Those are the only two colors that are available to the special edition sports car.

The interior also benefits from a host of exclusive touches, none more notable than the Circuit Red leather-trimmed seats with Alcantara accents and red carbon fiber ornamentation throughout.

As a bonus, Lexus is also throwing in a limited edition Meister (MSTR) watch that shares its looks — the gunmetal bezel and the red stitching on the band — with the RC F Fuji Speedway Edition.

Does the RC F Fuji Speedway Have Any Performance Upgrades?

Most of Lexus’ past special edition models didn’t come with engine upgrades, and that’s the same case with the RC F Fuji Speedway Edition. Fortunately, the RC F is probably the one Lexus model that doesn’t need any engine upgrades. On its own, the two-door coupe is powered by the aforementioned naturally aspirated V-8 that produces an impressive 472 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque. Those figures are good enough to propel the RC F to 60 mph from an idle position in just 3.96 seconds to go with a top speed of 170 mph.

2021 Lexus RC F specifications
Engine 5.0-liter V-8
Horsepower 472 HP
Torque 395 LB-FT
Transmission eight-speed automatic
0 to 60 mph 3.96 seconds
Top Speed 170 mph

For all of the exclusive touches that make the Lexus RC F Fuji Speedway a legitimate special edition model, it remains, at its core, a tried-and-true sports car that can compete with the likes of the Audi RS5, BMW M4, and Mercedes-AMG C 63.

To be clear, the RC F Fuji Speedway Edition comes with performance improvements, though not necessarily by way of its V-8 engine. Instead of raising the output of the engine, Lexus instead focused on improving the handling, drivability, and stopping power. Carbon fiber aeros, Brembo ceramic brakes, and a titanium exhaust are all included in the RC F’s special edition package.

How much does the Lexus RC F Fuji Speedway Edition cost?

Unfortunately, Lexus has yet to reveal the price details of the RC F Fuji Speedway Edition. Whle we know that only 60 units will be built, more details should be available closer to the model’s on-sale date. Pricing details for the 2021 RC F have not been revealed, either, though we do expect the two-door sports coupe to cost around $66,000. As for the Fuji Speedway Edition, our estimate is that it’ll be priced between $72,000 and $75,000.

Final Thoughts

I’ve always been a fan of Lexus’ special edition models, and my position hasn’t changed with the Lexus RC F Fuji Speedway Edition. There are automakers that can pull off flamboyant special edition models and there are automakers that are more well suited in the art of developing nondescript yet still attention-grabbing special edition models. Lexus falls in the latter category, and the automaker has done a great job in building on that reputation. The RC F Fuji Speedway Edition is a very interesting special edition. The upgrades, specifically the first-time-to-use Arctic Blast Satin paint finish, all fit into the RC F’s stature as a performance coupe. Nothing is overblown. All the details look good on the sports coupe, and Lexus managed to tie all of it up with a name that’s going to spark a lot of interesting conversations, as special edition sports cars are supposed to do.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read full bio

Precisely engineered beyond the base RC F, this version of the performance coupe features master-crafted upgrades that work together seamlessly to push its performance to a new level. Featuring further weight reduction, Brembo Carbon Ceramic brakes, titanium exhaust, and an extensive use of carbon fiber aerodynamics, the RC F Fuji Speedway Edition is far more than an appearance package. The sum of the detailed enhancements can be experienced in the estimated 3.96 seconds it takes to accelerate to 60 mph from a standstill.

The RC F Fuji Speedway Edition will only be available in Arctic Blast Satin* or Cloudburst Gray*. Arctic Blast Satin – a Lexus-first – is a unique white paint possessing a semi-matte finish. The paint expresses a beautiful satin luster like that of a true matte finish, yet is durable enough go through an automatic car wash. The greatest measure of a vehicle’s response is the one it invokes in the driver. And it’s precisely why every element of the high-performance RC F is painstakingly scrutinized to minimize weight while maximizing aerodynamics. From hollow half shafts down to the smallest components like a compact air conditioning compressor, every gram was purposefully crafted for optimal performance.

Lexus engineers worked with the RC F GT3 racing team to create a unique aerodynamics strategy that increases downforce for better grip and control through every turn. Even the airflow inside the wheel wells was carefully calculated. Air exits through the fenders, allowing the suspension to perform without disruptive air pressure, simultaneously enhancing handling and stability. And taking traction to the next level, each tread line on the RC F’s Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires features a specially developed compound to maximize grip.

From its muscular stance and available Premium Triple-Beam LED headlamps and taillamps, to its driver-inspired cabin including aggressively styled high-back sport seats, the RC F is the ultimate F, inside and out – on and off the track.
