The Lexus LC500 is currently the flagship luxury sports car in the brand’s lineup. Since its inception in 2017, the luxury grand tourer has been impressing us with some of the most exquisite interiors and sophisticated powertrains in the segment. That said, for 2022, the LC500 is getting a special Hokkaido edition, and here’s what we learned.

The Lexus LC500 Hokkaido Edition is named after the Northern volcanic island in Japan, which is home to the Lexus' Shibetsu proving grounds, in Japan, and where the Lexus LC and LFA were developed. Only 80 of the LC500 Hokkaido Edition will be built, which includes 40 coupes and 40 convertibles.

The Hokkaido Edition is based on the LC500, which means that under the hood, is a 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated, DOHC V-8 that develops 477 horsepower at 7,100 RPM and 398 pound-feet (540 Nm) at 4,800 RPM. Power still goes to the rear wheels through a 10-speed automatic, which allows for a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) sprint in 4.5 seconds (4.6 for the Convertible) and a top speed of 168 mph (270 km/h).

The LC500 Hokkaido Edition is available in a few exterior shades, including Flare Red (Infra-Red in the US), F White (Ultra White), Sonic Platinum, and Graphite. The LC500 Hokkaido also scores new 21-inch wheels with a unique design, specific to the limited edition. There’s also a signature black grille and the obligatory for a limited edition plaque showing the car’s serial number.

The convertible version of the LC500 Hokkaido Edition also offers different finishes for the convertible soft-top, which include black or red (get the red one).

The interior is as exquisite as ever, but the Hokkaido Edition brings a unique, asymmetric, black, and rose-red color scheme that harkens back to Hokkaido’s volcanic temper. Most of the rose-red finish can be found on the driver's side while the passenger side is primarily black. All 80 examples of the Hokkaido Edition will feature identical interiors.

The Lexus LC500 Hokkaido Edition will be on sale from April 2022, but for now, it has been announced only for Europe. That said, last year’s Lexus LC500 Aviation Edition was initially available for Japan only, but later made it to the US so there is hope yet.
