Video: Jay Leno Drives a One-Of-A-Kind Lexus LFA Spyder

Video: Jay Leno Drives a One-Of-A-Kind Lexus LFA Spyder

As car buffs, we all can’t help but be extremely jealous of Jay Leno. Not only does he have a collection of cars that most automotive museums would crave, but he also gets to drive some of the rarest cars in the world. This time around, he gets to drive the rarest version of one of the rarest cars in the world.

The Lexus LFA only saw a total of 500 examples built and that’s no mas. To boot, all 500 examples were never touched by anyone during the entire manufacturing and testing phase, as they all were required to wear gloves during the whole process. The 500th example of the LFA just so happens to be the only production LFA that lacks a key component: a roof.

Yes, this one-of-a-kind LFA is a real-life spyder. Not one that has a folding roof, a removable hard top, or even a rag top; it has no roof at all. So when you have a one-off model of a 500-model production car that no one in the production process is allowed to touch, what should you do the second it rolls off of the production line? Let Jay Leno beat the hell out of it at Fuji Speedway, of course.

Not only is the video awesome because Jay gets us a behind-the-scenes look at the manufacturing process, but you also get a good listen to the sweet sound of that 552-horsepower V-10 working hard. So what does Jay really think about the LFA now that he’s gotten it on the track and felt all the goodness that makes up this Lexus supercar. You’ll have to check out the above video to see.

Tony Hawk jumps yellow Lexus LFA on skateboard

Tony Hawk jumps yellow Lexus LFA on skateboard

Few sportsmen are known across the world as much as Tony Hawk. He is one of the true pioneers of skateboarding, even being the very first man to pull off a 900 degree spin during competition in 1999. With all this fame comes an equally impressive bank account, and where else could that money take you but to the most expensive car Lexus ever produced?

Well in his latest stunt, Hawk splashed a bit of cash by renting a bright-yellow Lexus LFA before jumping it on his skateboard with the help of a small skate-ramp, showing that even though he’s retired from competition, he still has skills which would put all novice skaters to shame.

The interesting thing about this story is that the video was not shot for advertising purposes on behalf of Lexus to help drum up sales for its $375,000 supercar, and it seems it was just shot for recreational purposes. As mentioned, the particular LFA in question was a rental car, although we’re not sure why Hawk wouldn’t just splash the cash and purchase one as he unquestionably has the money to do so.

Additionally, Hawk is also an avid Lexus-lover, currently owning a SC 430 and LS600h.

As a reminder, the Lexus LFA features a 4.8-liter V10 engine pumping out a Lamborghini Gallardo-rivalling 552 horsepower at a screaming 8,700rpm and 354 lb-ft of torque at 6,800 rpm. Not only does the LFA has one of the most distinct and pleasant exhaust notes out there, it’s actually quite the performance car with the Nurburgring edition lapping the Nordschleife last year in 7:14.64.

2011 Lexus LS 600h Landaulet

2011 Lexus LS 600h Landaulet

Lexus struck it big with the Royal Wedding when it was announced that Prince Albert of Monaco would be riding in an LS 600H for the royal affair. The experience must have been exquisite for the Prince because Lexus has created a Landaulet version of the hybrid for him to ride in with his future wife, Miss Charlene Wittstock, during their very own wedding.

The Lexus LS 600h Landaulet will be a one-off coach built limousine equipped with a one-piece transparent polycarbonate roof. This roof took about 2,000 hours to be completed with the help of a French company that specializes in supplying similar components to the aerospace industry, such as helicopter windscreens and fighter jet canopies. The building process was extensive because a honeycomb structure and carbon fiber template was created first to validate the roof’s shape and structural integrity and to ensure a perfect fit with tolerances of less than 1mm. Once the design was complete, robotic tools were used to produce the canopy and fit it to the Landaulet in a completely automated process. The final stage of the conversion, re-assembly, and finishing took a team of 10 specialists working with Lexus engineers more than two weeks to complete, to ensure the highest quality levels were achieved. The final product is a roof that is just 57 lbs and is fixed to the body through two intermediary parts which allow for a perfect view in and out of the car.

Check out the Lexus Landaulet and the second royal wedding this year on July 2nd!

Lexus hits it big; Prince Albert II of Monaco will be riding in a Lexus LS600h

Lexus hits it big; Prince Albert II of Monaco will be riding in a Lexus LS600h

BMW may have been joking when they came out with their M3 Royal Edition, but this next car, sadly, is no joke at all. Among the many cars used during the royal ceremony taking place between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey, Prince Albert II of Monaco and his future wife, Miss Charlene Wittstock, will be riding along in a Lexus LS600h. This event will probably top any and all of Lexus’ marketing efforts for the hybrid sedan, so top execs over there are probably giggling like school girls with excitement.

This specially prepared LS600h will feature integrated flashing lights, a royal insignia, and an "MC 01" license plate. Under the hood there will be the standard 5.0-liter V8 petrol engine combined with an electric motor for a total output of 439 HP.

"His Serene Highness takes a keen interest in encouraging innovative solutions for environmental protection and sustainable development around the world, founding the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in 2006. His Foundation supports more than 150 projects monitoring environmental evolution and protecting species endangered by climate change. It also provides assistance in water management in developing regions. With its pioneering state-of-the-art full hybrid technology delivering class-leading CO2 efficiency and environmental performances, Lexus is pleased to contribute to the objectives defined by His Serene Highness and to help the Principality of Monaco to become an international reference in terms of sustainable mobility."

Now all Lexus has to do is sit back and watch sales numbers peak.

Video: Lexus LF-A meets supermodel

Video: Lexus LF-A meets supermodel

Correct us if we’re wrong, but we believe it is every man’s dream to have a cool supercar in his garage and a hot girl in his bed. Whether any man wants to deny it or not, his wildest dreams certainly feature these two components and Lexus has taken full advantage of this in their latest video for the Lexus LF-A which features supermodel Rianne ten Haken. Sounds like a deadly combination to us!

The LF-A is powered by a 4.8 liter V10 that delivers a maximum output of 560 HP at 9,000 RPM and a peak torque of 354 lb-ft at 6,800 RPM. As a result, the LF-A can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.7 seconds and won’t stop until it reaches a top speed of 202 MPH. Put these next to Rianne ten Haken’s measurements of 33-24-35 and tell us which set of numbers you prefer!

Watch to see what happens!

Paris Hilton receives a Lexus LF-A for her 30th birthday

Paris Hilton receives a Lexus LF-A for her 30th birthday

Excuse us if we just swallowed a pear-sized gulp of despair…

Normally speaking, any news about the Lexus LF-A – with the exception of car crashes – is a delight for us. As one of our favorite supercars on the planet, we can’t get enough of the LF-A. But today, we found something about the LF-A that made us cringe. Badly.

Paris Hilton – yes, the same Paris Hilton that has a penchant for socializing, excessive partying, and pink Bentley Continental GTs – was given a sunny Lexus LF-A for her 30th birthday by boyfriend, Cy Waits. If it isn’t enough that the car costs $375,000, it’s going to be under the ownership of one Ms. Paris Hilton.

To be fair to her, the millionaire heiress looks to be in a good place in her life these days and hasn’t been in trouble for a while now. So we’ll give her that. But still, to give her the keys to a Lexus LF-A? We hate to say this, and forgive us for thinking this way, but we have this weird feeling that something’s going to happen to that beautiful supercar.

Then again, maybe it’s just all the pent-up envy and jealousy talking.
