2018 Lexus LS Custom

A splash of aero bits give Lexus’ flagship model a touch of sportiness

Lexus was in attendance at the 2018 SEMA Auto Show with a number of show-stopping offerings, including a custom Lexus LS 500 F Sport. The new take on the LS 500 F Sport is far more subtle than you’d want it to be, but it does offer a glimpse of the LS 500 F Sport’s tuning potential. It comes with a full custom wrap, a new set of wheels, a performance brake kit, and an extensive aerodynamic kit that bolsters the LS F Sport’s appearance. For a car that acts as Lexus’ flagship sedan, these upgrades bring out a side of the LS that none of us get to see regularly. In other words, these upgrades are exactly what the doctor ordered.

This study will make you see the pint-sized UX in a different light

For the man who wants wine to go with his Lexus ES 350 F Sport

The 2018 SEMA Auto Show is hosting a number of sick aftermarket creations, including a Lexus ES 350 F Sport that features updated styling and an interior that can capture the hearts of sommeliers the world over. The Lexus ES 350 F Sport is one of three custom-built Lexus models appearing at SEMA. It doesn’t have the sportiness of the LS F Sport Custom or the ruggedness of the UX 250h Custom, but the ES 350 F Sport Custom has something neither of its stablemates has: wine. Lots of it, too.

2017 Lexus LC 500 Inspired By Black Panther

For those times when you need Wakandan technology to help you stand out in the auto industry

As one of the most powerful and influential people in the Marvel Universe, you would think that Wakandan king T’Challa would have no problem procuring some of the most exotic supercars in the world. A Bugatti Chiron perhaps? Maybe a Koenigsegg Regera? But, the man who also is known as the Black Panther is far from a flashy fellow - his costume’s all-black! - so he’s probably not into the flaunting-his-wealth lifestyle that his colleague Tony Stark seems to be obsessed with. It’s also likely to be one of the reasons why he’s more than comfortable being spotted in a Lexus LC, and as fate - or marketing - would have it, we’re going to see exactly that at the 2017 SEMA Auto Show when Lexus brings a heavily dressed LC 500 dripping in Black Panther regalia.

For the record, Lexus actually created two LC 500 models for the promotion of the Black Panther movie. One of them is called the Lexus LC Inspiration Series. It’s more subdued than the other, owing to it being a special edition release that will be limited to just 100 units. The other unit, called the Black Panther Inspired LC, is a complete one-off and is not for sale. It’s also dripping in Wakandan technology, which isn’t a real thing to begin with, but awesome to imagine nevertheless. Hard to imagine Lexus suddenly getting resources from a fictional kingdom that gives them access to self-healing paint and vibranium-powered core indicator nodes, but you get the point. If you’re excited about getting the special edition unit that will be on sale, you might want to be on the look-out for when Lexus actually offers it up to the public. There’s not that many, to begin with, and considering the popularity of the Marvel Universe in this day and age, there’s a good chance all 100 units will be scooped up faster than it takes T’Challa to put on his Black Panther costume.

2016 Lexus GS F by Clark Ishihara

Wide-body kit adds some sporting character to Lexus’ performance sedan

VIP Auto Salon’s Clark Ishihara has been in the aftermarket business for over 10 years now so by way of simple longevity, the man has built his fair share of SEMA creations, most notably with Lexus models. This year, Ishihara once again put his tuning hat to good use with two new Lexus offerings at the world’s biggest aftermarket auto show. One of these two programs is for the Lexus GS F and it’s been loaded with a wide-body kit to go with splashes of interior and performance upgrades.

Known for being a “Lexus enthusiast,” Ishihara’s history with Toyota’s premium brand goes a long way. In 2015, he presented the Macadamia LS 600hL show car and in 2010, his modifications on a 2011 LS hybrid was recognized for a Mothers award for design excellence. The man knows his way around Lexus models more than most tuners and to no one’s surprise, he was the guy that Lexus tapped to work on the GS F and the RC F models.

The upgrades for both Lexus models are admittedly more subtle than what you’d expect at an outlandish show like SEMA. But Ishihara has never been outlandish about his project cars, opting instead to give them real-world aftermarket applications that GS F and RC F owners can look at and say, “that’s something I’d like to see on my GS F.” And on that note, that’s what the man behind VIP Auto Salon did with the sports coupe. Sporty and aggressive without going over the edge. This is Clark Ishihara and this his aftermarket take on the Lexus GS F.

First custom project for the LC 500 sets the bar high for the others to follow

The first time for anything is always tricky because there’s no precedent to compare it to. For some, that might be a challenge, but for others, it’s an opportunity to set the bar high. Take what you will from that, but it’s important to remember that in the course of 10 months since the Lexus LF C broke cover at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, the sports car has yet to be customized in an aftermarket setting. Well, that all changed at the 2016 SEMA Auto Show when Gordon Ting/Beyond Marketing presented the very first custom project for the LF C.

It seems appropriate that Gordon Ting/Beyond Marketing was the first to do it. After all, this is the same tuner that presented a tuning program for the GS F during last year’s SEMA show. It’s worth noting too that this kit for the LF C is far more comprehensive than the mostly cosmetic work done on the GS F a year ago. This program has it all; it’s got exterior upgrades, interior refinements, and engine modifications. The tuner even worked on the coupe’s suspension and added a new set of wheels and tires for good measure.

Gordon Ting/Beyond Marketing indicated that it wanted to give the LF C a race-inspired look and feel to it and to that extent, it’s hard to argue with the results. Sure, it got some help from a number of collaborators, but in the end, we’ll remember this program – the first custom program for the LF C – as the work of Gordon Ting/Beyond Marketing.

That in itself is not a surprise, as is the distinction that comes with being the first tuner to present a program for the Lexus LF C.

The Lexus GS F sedan may not have the visceral look of its coupe cousin, the RC F Coupe, but the former can still attract an audience wherever it goes — especially if it’s rocking a bright orange wrap that’s impossible to ignore. Such is the scene at the SEMA Auto Show where Lexus, in collaboration with aftermarket shop Gordon Ting/Beyond Marketing, is showcasing a fully customized GS F Sedan.

The revamped GS F is a real looker, and it’s not just because of the blindingly bright orange wrap. It also has quite the list of aftermarket modifications, most of which were installed to improve the sedan’s performance and handling capabilities. There’s an aero kit in there too that gives the GS F an aggressive look and, in case it hasn’t been established enough, the bright orange wrap really does wonders in enhancing the sedan’s already overflowing charisma.

The GS F sedan is one of two models that Lexus and Gordon Ting/Beyond Marketing are presenting at SEMA. The other one is the RC F Coupe and, not surprisingly, it also has a similar orange wrap. These two Lexus models may not win any “best-in” awards, but they’ve certainly made their mark at SEMA.

2015 Lexus RC F By Gordon Ting/Beyond Marketing

2015 Lexus RC F By Gordon Ting/Beyond Marketing

The Lexus RC F takes most of its styling from the Lexus IS sedan, but it is much more aggressive and very sporty. The idea behind the RC F is to pay tribute to Lexus’ supercar – the LFA. Even though it was designed to complement the LFA, it wasn’t designed to be a Nissan GT-R fighter. Instead, Lexus designed the RC F to take on cars like the BMW M4 and Audi RS5.

Now that the RC F has been on the market, it is no surprise that modified versions of it are starting to pop up here and there. One such model is the RC F by Gordon Ting and Beyond Marketing. Things like the suspension and seats have been upgraded, and there is even a performance upgrade in there to talk about. The car has received a roll cage and new racing seats as well. Needless to say, Gordon Ting and Beyond Marketing took an already sporty RC F and made it that much better with a focus on aerodynamics and handling.

Now that we’ve talked a bit about the roots of the RC F and what Gordon Ting and Beyond Marketing has brought to the table, let’s take a deep look and see just what differentiates this RC-F from the rest.

2016 Lexus RC F GT3 By F Performance Racing

2016 Lexus RC F GT3 By F Performance Racing

It’s been 18 months since Lexus introduced the RC F GT3 Concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and the production model has been finally unveiled at the 2015 SEMA Show. Built to FIA GT3 specifications, the RC F race car is Lexus’ first such project since it shelved the GTE program for the LFA.

The RC F GT3 is part of the brand’s new global motorsports effort and will hit race tracks in the United States beginning in 2016. According to Lexus, Paul Gentilozzi and newly formed F Performance Racing will field the RC F GT3 in "a soon to be announced sports car series."

For the uninitiated, Gentilozzi has been involved in professional racing for more than 45 years. The team has five Trans-Am Series championships with three different brands to its name, as well as an overall and two class victories at Daytona 24 Hours. Additionally, it propelled Scott Pruett, Kalus Graf and Tomy Drissi to three driver championships and 10 manufacturer titles in IMSA and TransAm combined. As an engine builder, it took various teams to more than 50 wins and podium finishes.

Gentilozzi isn’t the only huge name involved in this project. The RC F GT3 will be driven by road racing legend Scott Pruett. The 55-year-old has won many Trans-Am, IMSA, and Daytona 24 Hours events and will be returning to the track in a Lexus in after an eight-year hiatus. The California native previously campaigned Lexus-powered prototypes between 2004-2007.

The RC F GT3 will run a limited calendar in 2016, but an actual schedule has yet to be announced. In its first year back on the track, Lexus’ primary focus will involve further vehicle development and gathering track experience.

2015 Lexus RC F By VIP Auto Salon

2015 Lexus RC F By VIP Auto Salon

Lexus’ Bimmer/Audi fighter has a history dating back to the late 90s, with the IS sedan and wagon, also known as the Toyota Altezza in other markets. The aftermarket took to the IS quickly, with performance packages that enhanced the entry-level luxury car’s engine and suspension, not to mention a countless array of truly awful taillights that offered a knock off version of the Altezza rear end for just about every make and model ever created.

Nowadays, the Altezza’s big brother, the RC F, has matured a bit over its sibling. It’s more expensive, heavier, and more powerful than the IS, plus it comes with all kinds of cool gadgets and amenities, like 19-inch wheels, a speed-sensing rear spoiler, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The top-range Carbon Model also features a torque-vectoring rear differential, carbon-fiber roof, and premium stereo system.

Even though the RC F is essentially an enhanced IS sporting some very nice equipment, the aftermarket can’t be stopped in its never-ending quest for an upgrade.

Enter VIP Auto Salon. Stationed out of southern California in the city of Orange, VIP was first established in 2006, and specializes in Toyota/Lexus performance and luxury. This past SEMA, VIP brought its modified RC F to the now-closed 2014 SEMA show as a showpiece for what happens when premium aftermarket parts meets crowd-sourced decision making.

The result is something unique, but not entirely out of line from what you’d get from the factory. Every aspect of the car has seen at least a little attention, and that’s good. I like the RC F as an alternative to the standard Bavarian sporting luxury, and I think there’s a good chance that anyone who picks one up might be inclined to invest some money back into it. The M4 and RS5 are both great cars, but anyone looking for something special should think about taking a trip to the Lexus dealership, followed by a quick jaunt over to VIP.

2015 Lexus RC 350 F SPORT by Gordon Ting/Beyond Marketing

2015 Lexus RC 350 F SPORT by Gordon Ting/Beyond Marketing

The Lexus RC is a car that’s made for a show like SEMA. I’m pretty certain that I’m not the only with that opinion. I’ve been one of the biggest fans of the RC since it first made its debut at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show and I haven’t second guessed it since. Now, it’s headed to the SEMA Auto Show, thanks to the collaboration of noted aftermarket companies LexusTuned, GReddy, Toyo Tires, and Rocket Bunny.

You would think that I’d be a fan of this heavily modified Lexus RC. But actually, I’m not. I know, shocker...

To be clear, I understand why the RC was modified to look like this. It’s the objective of nearly every tuner at SEMA to show up with something intense, but there’s something to be said for going a little too far with it and robbing the car of its personality.

I think that’s what happened to this RC. A lot of the character lines I loved on the standard version have been replaced with a wide-body kit that makes the RC look about as appealing as a fading actress with too many facelifts. The rear section, specifically the spoiler and the custom diffuser, does add a more aggressive look to the sports coupe, but overall, the kit didn’t accentuate the RC’s sexiness.

Updated 11/04/2014: Lexus unveiled the official images of this very cool RC 350 F developed by Gordon Ting in cooperation with Beyond Marketing. Details after the jump.

Lexus offered its fans the chance to design their dream 2014 IS, and the seven best of the bunch were bought to life and put on display at the 2013 SEMA Show. One of the models that became a reality features a Tommy Kaira body kit and sits on Vossen wheels. It is on displayed at booth No. 46119.

This concept is based on the IS350 F-Sport and is one of the coolest IS models you will ever see. The concept features a special Pearl Yellow paint specially created by Platinum Motorsport for the Lexus LFA supercar.

This new paint suits the Tommy Kaira full aero package, which includes new front and rear bumpers, side skirts and a discreet spoiler. The front bumper features additional air intakes for a better engine cooling, while additional LED lights give it a sinister glare at nighttime.
