The Lexus LF-A Nurburgring Edition has been out for quite some time now, but the US market has just received its first unit. Lexus has placed a set of images of the first LF-A Nurburgring Edition during the car’s official delivery on the US land on their Facebook page.
While most may remember the Nurburgring package when it was placed on an LF-A with very cool orange exterior finish, it looks like the American customer opted for a white exterior paint combined with a bare carbon roof and a contrasting red interior. It still looks pretty amazing, though.
While a standard LF-A will cost you $375,000, the optional Nurbrugring Package will add an extra $70,000. For the money, customers will get an extra 10 HP and numerous carbon fiber elements: a larger front spoiler, fin-type side spoilers, and a fixed rear wing. The car has already lapped the famous Nurburgring in only 7 minutes and 14 seconds, so it’s definitely worth the money being dished out!
Lexus has high hopes for 2012 after what can only be described as a sub-par 2011. So with a new year full of hope and high expectations, Lexus is kicking off 2012 with a bang with their very first Super Bowl commercial.
“This is a big year for Lexus as we introduce nine new or updated models, and the Super Bowl provides us with an equally big opportunity to reach a highly engaged audience of 50 million people,” said Brian Smith, Lexus Vice President of Marketing.
The Toyota-owned automaker is due to run a 30-second commercial in the first quarter of the Big Game and considering that its Lexus’ very first attempt at a Super Bowl spot, you better believe that they’re setting everything up by introducing a 15-second teaser of their 30-second commercial.
Only during the Super Bowl will you see a teaser of a commercial.
According to Smith: “The star of our commercial is the all-new 2013 GS which launches in February and kicks off a pivotal era for the Lexus brand. The spot also will convey that even more products are waiting in the wings and are anxious to hit the road.”
Check out the teaser video of Lexus’ first Super Bowl ad before the full 30-seconder is unveiled on February 5, 2012.
Shortly after releasing details on the 2012 Lexus CT 200h F-Sport Package, Lexus has unveiled the CT 200h F-Sport Special Edition exclusively for the US market. Only 900 units of this model will be built, and they are scheduled to arrive in dealerships in November 2011 with a price tag of $37,995.
The new Lexus CT200h F-Sport Special Edition will be offered in the new Nebula Gray Pearl color, as well as Starfire Pearl and Tungsten Pearl. Each model will come with a new set of F-Sport 17" alloy wheels in a Liquid Silver finish. The exterior will be further distinguished by a unique front mesh grille, a larger rear spoiler, and an F-Sport exterior badge.
The interior of the F-Sport Special Edition also gets a number of additions including Ocean Blue NuLuxe trimmed seats, black F-Sport floor mats with blue contrast stitching, metal front scuff plates, and aluminum sport pedals. Metallic trim was then added to the dash panel, highlighting the black headliner. The interior is completed with a perforated leather-trimmed steering wheel with F-Sport logo and a leather-trimmed shift knob.
The Lexus CT 200h F Sport Special Edition will still be offered with the F-Sport suspension with anti-sway bar and springs, but Lexus is also throwing in a Navigation Package and a Premium Audio Package as standard (these are optional in the standard F-Sport Package).
Formula One uses a Mercedes SLS AMG. The Indianapolis 500 has a Chevrolet Camaro SS. Now, you can add a Lexus LF-A to the growing list of high-powered pace cars that have been used this year by a bonafide racing event.
The 2011 LF-A, Lexus’ resident supercar, served as the official pace car of the 2011 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, an open-wheel racing event held every year at the streets of Long Beach, California. Just in case you need a refresher, the race is part of the Izod IndyCar Series calendar. It was actually held last weekend where England’s Mike Conway emerged as the winner for Andretti Autosport.
Dressed in black with matching white stripes and looking the part of a Japanese zebra, the LF-A Pace Car was undoubtedly a pleasant surprise for a lot of us. We don’t know if the car will be used in other IndyCar races for the rest of the year, but we’re certainly hoping to see more of it down the road, hopefully even at a race that doesn’t have Toyota as a title sponsor.
As a brief refresher, the 2011 LF-A is a supercar that’s powered by a 4.8-liter V10 engine that delivers a maximum output of 560 horsepower with a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph.
Excuse us if we just swallowed a pear-sized gulp of despair…
Normally speaking, any news about the Lexus LF-A – with the exception of car crashes – is a delight for us. As one of our favorite supercars on the planet, we can’t get enough of the LF-A. But today, we found something about the LF-A that made us cringe. Badly.
Paris Hilton – yes, the same Paris Hilton that has a penchant for socializing, excessive partying, and pink Bentley Continental GTs – was given a sunny Lexus LF-A for her 30th birthday by boyfriend, Cy Waits. If it isn’t enough that the car costs $375,000, it’s going to be under the ownership of one Ms. Paris Hilton.
To be fair to her, the millionaire heiress looks to be in a good place in her life these days and hasn’t been in trouble for a while now. So we’ll give her that. But still, to give her the keys to a Lexus LF-A? We hate to say this, and forgive us for thinking this way, but we have this weird feeling that something’s going to happen to that beautiful supercar.
Then again, maybe it’s just all the pent-up envy and jealousy talking.
Just when you thought Toyota had gotten over their 2010 recall catastrophe, their sister brand, Lexus, is starting the year of by catching the proverbial ‘bug’.
There really is no rest for the weary, is there?
The Japanese automaker is issuing a voluntary safety recall involving 245,000 vehicles of the GS and IS models over what appears to be a potential defect that could cause fuel leakage.
According to Lexus, the problem is caused by a problem with the connection between the vehicle’s fuel pressure sensor and a fuel line that could loosen over time. This, in turn, could lead to a possible fuel leak.
Affected Lexus models include 2006-2007MY GS300 and GS350 models, 2006-2009MY IS250s, and 2006-2008MY IS350s.
While no accidents have been reported yet, Lexus is doing its due diligence in ensuring that it doesn’t end up there. That’s why the company has already issued an order to its dealers to inspect all the affected models and take the necessary precautionary steps to fix the problem for any affected models. In the event a fuel leak is found, dealerships are prepared to replace the gasket found between the fuel sensor and the delivery at no cost to the car owner.
Looks like the Lexus LF-A supercar will be having its own tuning program real soon. Recently, Lexus North America and Los Angeles-based auto tuner, CEC, struck a partnership where the latter will be tasked to create a tuning program for the LF-A supercar. The program will be limited to just three models with each car coming with a number of modifications that will be built specifically to the whims of each of the car owners.
According to CEC, the whole scope of the tuning program will only cover aesthetic improvements, which means that the car’s overall performance will be kept untouched.
Claus Ettensberger, founder of CEC and the guy who was the first to get a speeding ticket in the Lexus, said: "We looked at the LFA and what Lexus engineers had done, and knew it would be crazy to try and improve it from a performance or engineering standpoint."
Despite having no performance upgrades, CEC still managed to boost the supercar’s output with another 10 horsepower – from 560 to 570 horsepower – while slicing off the shift time to .15 of a second.
The three modified LF-A’s have yet to be revealed, but word that somebody’s actually building them is getting us all excited about the possibilities of what they’re going to look like. It might be tooting their own horn, but according to Sherif Yassa, CEC’s vice president, the three modified LF-A’s will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.
"We believe these three CEC Tuner Edition LFAs will be the most expensive and rarest of all the LFA supercars that Lexus will manufacturer and sell worldwide," said Yassa.
Knowing what we know about Lexus and CEC, we’re not doubting them the least bit.
Lexus has unveiled details on their 2011 model year line-up, including the sports sedan IS-F. The 2011 IS-F gets an improved suspension, updated electronic power steering, and a Torsen rear differential.
The Lexus IS F is powered by a performance-tuned 5.0-liter V8 engine that delivers a total of 416 HP at 6,600 rpm and a peak torque of 371 lb.-ft. at 5,200 rpm. This engine is mated to an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift transmission.
The IS-F is clearly differentiated thanks to its trapezoid-shaped front bumper fascia, a V-shape grille, hood raised on the center section, and a special wire-mesh pattern on both upper and lower grilles. Other standout features include large brake cooling ducts, a discrete silver, black, and blue "F" marque on the front fenders, and 19" wheels.
The interior of the IS F features an exclusive design treatment highlighted by aluminized composite trim, striking two-tone upholstery, aluminum-rimmed main gauges, unique steering-wheel treatment, and other special surface treatments.
Press release after the jump.
Lexus has announced that there will only be 150 examples of their LF-A super car to be sold here in the U.S. So you can imagine how much of a sight it would be to run across one in the flesh. However the Japanese automaker was making things a little easier when they brought the brand new 500+ HP purpose built luxury speed machine to Cars and Coffee, a Saturday morning gathering in Irvine, California where hundreds of automotive enthusiasts congregate to kick tires and have a cup of their favorite brew. When the matte black LF-A showed up it acted like a super magnet attracting almost everyone in attendance.
The LF-A is powered by a 4.8 liter V10 that delivers a maximum output of 560 HP at 9,000 RPM and a peak torque of 354 lb-ft at 6,800 RPM, with 90% of the total torque being available between the 3,700 RPM mark and the super car’s 9,000 RPM red line. As a result of such a road torque curve, the LF-A can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.7 seconds and won’t stop until it reaches a top speed of 202 MPH.

Lexus will only make 500 units of the LF-A, making it a rat race for anybody who’s interested in the highly-anticipated supercar’s release on January 11, 2010.
And if you’re living in North America, you’re going to have to act faster because only 150 units will come your way. Even worse for the Canadians is the fact that only 10 will be offered to the Great White North.
The number was confirmed by Lexus shortly after the company announced that the cars can be had through a lease program. Not that we’d think you’d have enough money to buy the LF-A straight up, but let’s be real; you won’t find that many people with around $400,000 – the cars expected price tag - lying around in your room.
What makes the LF-A so special – apart from the obvious top-notch performance package – is that each of the 500 cars will be customized uniquely depending on the tastes of the customer, including the type of interior stitching they’d want for their LF-As. Consequently, each of the 500 LFAs that are going to be made won’t be completed until a customer’s order has been completed.
Fox Marketing and Artisan Performance teamed up to create this subtle yet aggressive Lexus IS-F for last year’s SEMA show, and almost a year later the Sunset Orange Pearl paint on this wide body IS is still shining brightly. The subtle part involves the numerous bodywork modifications that enhance rather than rethink the lines of the V8 powered factory tuned sedan, making it look even more muscular in the process. The aggressive aspect is applied to the eight cylinder engine we mentioned earlier that gets upgraded with a full blown twin turbo kit that the tuners expect to be good for over 600 HP. No matter which angle you look at this Lexus IS-F from you can’t help but be overwhelmed with the subtle details that set this IS apart from ordinary four door luxury cars.

Ever since the new millennium began, there was one manufacturer that has held the title of number one luxury brand in America. That, of course, is Lexus. Toyota’s luxury line has obliterated any would-be contender for the top spot for the longest time – including perennial bridesmaids, BMW - and it has done so with relative ease. But with the numbers through the first eight months of 2009, it seems that that BMW is finally making some ground on Lexus and could – by the end of the year – dethrone its chief rival from the lofty perch it has held for years on end.
As of August 2009, Lexus is separated by only 2,293 vehicles from BMW – the closest its ever been n years – and with BMW posting ‘stronger’ sales for much of the year compared to Lexus, Toyota’s luxury line is in danger of falling into second place. Of course, we can’t give full credit to BMW for their ascent because we know the global economic crisis has played the biggest part in the reversal of fortunes of Lexus and BMW. Just to get things straight; both BMW and Lexus have been hit by the economic crisis hard, with sales of both brands suffering as a result. But it just so happens that Lexus has experienced the bigger drop in sales compared to BMW (40% to 28%) and that figure alone has constituted to BMW besting Lexus in 2009.

Lexus should scoot to the side and make room for the luxury American automaker Cadillac, because the GM-owned car brand tied Toyota’s luxury line in the most recent customer satisfaction survey that was done by the University of Michigan. The survey measures the level of customer satisfaction achieved by each brand and as far as this year is concerned, Cadillac, which placed second last year to Lexus, scored an 89 in the American Customer Satisfaction Index, the same score given to the long-reigning champion.
Tying for third place were Buick and Lincoln-Mercury, two beleaguered brands that seemed to have made quite a recovery by posting an approval score of 88. Joining the two in third is Honda, which also scored 88. Overall, American brands improved their standings this year by scoring an overall mark of 83, although it was still lower than what the Asian automakers received a score of 84 and even further than what the European carmakers got an 88.

Finally, we have some competition.
It seemed like a millennium ago – and it really is, if you think about it - when Lexus was challenged as the number one luxury brand in America but now it seems to have found a rival in BMW.
The German-based luxury car manufacturer has finally unseated the throne Lexus has occupied since 2000 as the US luxury-brand-of-choice. It’s been a long time since the Beamer last held the top spot – 1997, to be exact - but thanks to a noticeable decline of 37.2% in Lexus sales this year, Toyota’s luxury brand would have to settle as the runner-up to BMW.
Lexus’ decline in sales is actually not an indication of a strengthening market-hold for BMW, which actually suffered its own drop of 30.5% in sales. Nevertheless, Americans still bought over 76, 819 BMW’s compared to 73,186 Lexus vehicles.
In 1989 Toyota launched something the world had never seen before, a Lexus. Six years earlier, Toyota Chairman Eiji Toyoda called a secret meeting where he posed the question, Can Toyota produce a luxury vehicle that is capable of taking on the best that the world, mainly Germany, has to offer? Immediately after the team of engineers, designers and marketing professionals commenced Toyota’s billion dollar F1 program. The result of their Flagship 1 program, the Lexus LS 400 was a luxury vehicle that would expand Toyota’s product line, securing the Japanese automaker a foothold in the premium automobile segment and provide both longtime Toyota and soon to be luxury car customers an upscale offering from Japan. That same year sales figures for the German luxury automobile manufacturers BMW and Mercedes-Benz dropped 29% and 19% respectively in the U.S. market. The luxury car was widely praised for its well-appointed and ergonomic interior, engine performance, build quality and value when it was introduced stateside with a very affordable $38,000 price tag.
Twenty years have passed and the Lexus LS is still being praised. The Japanese luxury car maker now operates its own design, engineering, and manufacturing centers, solely responsible for the production of Lexus vehicles. The model that started it all, the LS, is in its fourth generation and looking better than ever.

Lexus hybrids have been very easy on the environment. Their hybrids are by far the most technologically advanced of the ones found today in the market. On that context, a re-badged Prius was talked about by many including Toyota president Katsuaki Watanabe, but there was no news or sightings of a test mule; Until now- this Prius err.. Lexus was spotted testing in California.
New rims, quad exhausts, and a lowered stance are the new additions. Expect the interiors to look space ship-like along with all the bells and whistles. When it goes on sale sometime in 2009, it will likely be the cheapest Lexus one can buy. All in all, a premium version of U.S’ most preferred eco-friendly car.
At a recent media event, Lexus chief Takeshi Yoshida said that the new IS-F will be available on the US market starting February 2008. The car will go on sale in Japan starting December 25th at a price of at 7.66 million ($66,000), but the US pricing haven’t been released yet.
