We see a lot of restomods where people or companies thump new engines into classic cars. But how about putting an electric powertrain into a vintage car? This is not a new concept; in fact, there are quite a few companies who have been working on this for quite some time now. The conversion companies were in a large number even in the last century, and a perfect testament for this would be the formation of the Electric Auto Association back in 1967. However, this takes a lot of skill, money, and precise execution. One such classic car fanatic company, which has done many conversions in the past, is ICON; and this time, the company has turned a 1949 Mercury Coupe into an EV.
It may seem unlikely given Lincoln’s current lineup, but there was a time when the company used to offer rear-wheel-drive, luxury coupes too. The last model to sport a two-door configuration was the Mark VIII. Introduced in 1992 and built on the same FN platform underpinning the tenth-generation Ford Thunderbird and the seventh-gen Mercury Cougar, the Lincoln Mark VIII got axed in June 1998. Granted, the disappearance of the Mark VIII left a big gap in the Lincoln range.
That’s likely to change in near future. But for that to happen, a couple of conditions must be met. First, Lincoln has to green light the use of the 2015 Mustang platform for a future product. Second, the production car to sit on that rear-wheel-drive architecture must come in a coupe configuration and not in the shape of a redesigned MKS sedan. It’s tricky and a bit far-fetched, but one can only hope that the MK Coupe Concept depicted above, courtesy of our friends at BoldRide, becomes more than just an intriguing idea.

Lincoln has been struggling to get back on track and catch up to Cadillac for more than a decade now. But despite the company’s efforts to reinvents itself, things aren’t going as they should. And that’s why we’re not at all surprised to hear the luxury marque is planning yet another overhaul and a new batch of models.
The big news though is that Lincoln finally admitted it could borrow the brand-new platform underpinning the 2015 Mustang to add a sportier model to its lineup. Rumors about a Mustang-based Lincoln have been floating around since 2013, especially in regard to the next-generation MKS sedan.
"We know that we need to get into other segments with other vehicles," Lincoln head of marketing, sales and service Matt VanDyke told Edmunds, adding that the company "won’t rule out" a vehicle developed on the rear-wheel-drive platform sitting underneath the 2015 Mustang.
The representative didn’t go into specifics, but such a decision is likely to come as a result of the new "One Ford" strategy that advocates the sharing of platform and drivetrains within Ford Motor Co. All told, all Ford vehicle platforms are being considered to develop additional Lincoln automobiles.

The question of where to take Lincoln’s styling was top-of-mind for Ford during the mid 1950s, and the net it cast was to both the internal styling teams and one special dream car creator of Italy.
Turbulent times for all the Blue Oval brands followed the market flop of their Edsel series, and Chevrolet was lighting up newsprint and auto shows with their swanky Motorama events and the original Corvetteconcept of 1953.
The desire for miraculous styling direction and stunning concept cars led to all the non-GM American car brands to pair off with Italian styling houses. During this flurry of deals, Ghia signed up with Chrysler, Bertone for Packard and Carrozerria Touring with Hudson.
Lincoln went with a less-renowned name of Felice Paolo to dress a rolling chassis with bespoke coupe bodywork ahead of the Turin motor show. The orange lacquer paint was barely dry on the 1955 Lincoln Indianapolis Exclusive Study by Carrozzeria Boano Torino when it was rolled onto the rotating platform of the Turin auto show.
This stunning concept car is headed for the glitz and flash bulbs again this November with RM Auctions, where the car’s previous million-dollar pricing is expected to climb in value yet again.

We have heard all kind of crazy stuff in the past few months, but this one is by far one of the craziest. It’s no secret that Lincoln is working to bring its fame back, but could the company indeed be planning a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe based on the Ford Mustang platform?
Apparently yes, at least according to FordInsideNews, who reports that Lincoln is preparing such a model as a "last chance" effort for the company. The model will be initially announced in late 2015 and it will be a 2016 or 2017 model year.
If the rumors are true, the model will feature a slightly larger wheelbase when compared to the Mustang and will be offered with a 2.9-liter EcoBoost V6 engine — a member of the company’s Nano engine family.
This new model is currently being developed only as a coupe, but rumors suggest that Lincoln is also considering a rear-wheel drive flagship sedan also based on the next-generation Mustang platform too.
No one is sure what name this coupe will carry, but a Mark Series name seems to be the right one.
We’ll keep an eye on this one, as Lincoln is inching closer to the do-or-die phase of its lifespan.
Rear-end collisions involving supercars are no new thing. A large percentage of their owners have no real regard for the speed limit and tend to launch these super-expensive machines into the rear end of slower-moving vehicles. Because of how common these wrecks are, we typically pass them off as not newsworthy.
Of course, when an accident looks more like it happened during the red carpet affair at the Emmy Awards ceremonies, our ears tends to perk up a little. This time around, a $200K Ferrari California “lightly tapped” the rear end of what appears to be a Lincoln stretched limo. By “lightly tapped,” we ultimately mean slammed into the rear end at a fairly high rate of speed.
This California driver hit the rear end of the limo so hard that it pushed this massive luxury transporter forward hard enough to smash it into the rear of yet another Lincoln stretched limo. We managed to scrounge up a video of the accident’s aftermath, but unfortunately, we were not able to find footage of the actual accident, which was likely an extravagant display of speed and complete disregard for public safety.
By looking at the accident’s results, it doesn’t look like anyone was hurt. The Ferrari owner’s wallet, on the other hand, is likely hurting pretty badly, as is his ego. You really have to wonder how fast this guy was driving to push a car nearly three to four times its weight forward into another car, while at a stop.
Sit back, enjoy the above video, and have a nice chuckle. Let this be a warning though, just because you drive a supercar, you are not automatically a super driver.
This week’s episode of The Car Show packed many of the things that were vacant from the last week’s episode. Yes, we said it, there was much more Car Show and a lot less filler crap.
Some of the mini segments did make their way into the show, including 0-60 (one of our favorites), Behind the Wheel, and of course, One for the Road. Aside from that, there were more celebrity appearances with two different interviews and a trip up the German Autobahn and down the Pacific Coast Highway in an Audi R8 V10 Spyder.
If anyone finds Adam Carolla the least bit annoying then you’ll be happy to know that he participates in Red Bull’s SoapBox Derby and falls a little short of the finish line. One nasty scrape later and he still finds a way to piss people off. All for the love of cars.

Back in the ’70s, Lincoln customers could buy the De Tomaso Pantera from Lincoln dealerships, giving the brand some appeal in the sports car department. That only lasted until about 1975 when poor response due to quality issues in the vehicle made Ford back out of their agreement to sell the Pantera, leaving Lincoln with only full-size models. With most brands providing a wide array of vehicular options, Lincoln has slowly but surely been sinking into a hole that only drastic changes can get them out.
These changes are more or less what the company is working on now with plans to introduce seven new or revamped vehicles in the next three years. One of these vehicles is rumored to be a 200 mph two-seat sports car which seems a little out of their reach, but may just be possible. If produced, this new sports car may feature a supercharged V-6 to complement the V8 found in Ford’s GT model.
In addition to the new sports car, Ford is also planning on juicing up the technology found in their Lincolns. During a recent interview with Automotive News, Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s global product czar, said that "there will be technology that will be unique to Lincoln." He noted that Lincolns of the near future could be fitted with electronic PRNDL (park, reverse, neutral, drive, low), which would "provide a truly unique design and interior."
Lincoln hopes to pleasantly surprise their existing customers with this new technology, but also hopes to engage new buyers. New technology on a 200mph two-seat sports car? That’s a good way to start if they are indeed capable of pulling it off.
