Lotus Eletre

The Lotus Eletre is probably the most un-Lotus ever, with a massive curb weight, lots of digital screens, and SUV body style. It does, however, offer the performance you’d expect from a Lotus, but there are some interesting quirks to it. From its aerodynamic features to some interesting design queues, and for better or worse, this is the Lotus Eletre.

Disguised as Type 132, the Eletre (pronounced as El-etra), is the British luxury sports car manufacturer’s newest and first take on the SUV market. It is a “hyper-SUV” that is destined to take down the “ludicrous” Tesla Model X, but can it really? Although the Lotus is yet to provide complete information about the Eletre, we are going to compare them side-by-side, so you can be the judge.

Lotus recently launched the all-new Eletre SUV, a model that’s been criticized for looking a bit too much like the Lamborghini Urus – or an evolution of it. There’s also some criticism around its billing as the “world’s first hyper SUV” when it doesn’t exactly post hypercar-like power or top speed, the latter of which comes in at 161 mph, by the way. 100 km/h or 62.1 mph is said to come in less than three seconds, but as of today, power output has only been disclosed at “from 600 horsepower.” Hyper SUV? Doesn’t seem like it, but that could just be consequential as a pair of new reports expose not only the Eletre’s weight but what else Lotus has planned for its future.

29th March 2022. This date was supposed to go down in the books as one of the most important milestones in Lotus’ modern history. It was the day the company embraced the two evolving aspects – SUVs and electrification – of the auto industry and took its first step towards the same by debuting its first all-electric production SUV, the Eletre. Now, the company built up the hype for a very long time and revealed the product with fairly decent specs. But, given the competition, the time it took to roll out an SUV, and the fact that it called a 600-HP vehicle a “hyper SUV”, was the Eletre a disappointment?

Lotus just took the wraps off its first-ever crossover SUV, the Eletre and it’s not just an EV, but it also happens to be the world’s first-ever hyper-SUV. Now, if at first glance you thought this looked an awful lot like Lamborghini Urus, well, you’re not alone.

While there will be many future comparisons between this Hyper-SUV and other super-SUVs over time, here’s a proper side-by-side comparison of the Lotus Eletre and the Lamborghini Urus purely based on their exterior designs.

This is the all-new Lotus Eletre, the first crossover SUV ever made by the British marque. In keeping with the Lotus tradition, performance for this swoopy new SUV is paramount as it demolishes 0-60 mph in a blistering 2.95 seconds and has a top speed of 161 mph, all with a range of 600 km or 372 miles of driving range.
