The JP Zero GT2 Is The Most Exciting Lotus That Isn’t A Lotus
Lotus built its reputation on the track by winning six Drivers’ Championships and seven Constructors’ Championships throughout the ’60s and ’70s and it was the road cars that benefitted the most from all that experience.
Nowadays, Lotus is prepping up the Evija, supposedly the most powerful production car ever, but race-going Lotuses are thin on the ground so it’s up to Jubu Performance and other tuners to get it done. The JP Zero is the latest Lotus-based supercar and, luckily, a 600-horsepower, $600,000 GT2 version will be available as well.
Someone Slapped a Harrop TVS1900 Supercharger onto a Series-3 Lotus Exige and the Result Will Knock Your Socks Off
The third-generation Lotus Exige is a light, nimble, and quite quick sports car that’s at home on the track. However, for some, the Exige doesn’t cut it in stock trim. For those people, here’s the 500-horsepower Exige fitted with a Harrop TVS1900 supercharger that’s taking no prisoners on any road course.
The current Exige has been in production for nigh on seven years now and it Lotus has periodically revised their recipe adding more power and, as per Colin Chapman’s ethos, subtracting weight. Last year, Lotus unveiled the Cup 430 which develops 430-horsepower and weighs barely 2,300 pounds. It came just a year after the Cup 380 which was described by Lotus’ CEO as "so good, that it is no longer the best in class, it’s now in a class of its own."
Can this monstrosity be even better than the two factory-built track cars?
Back in 2011 Hennessey Performance has unveiled theVenom GT - a very cool customized Lotus Elise limited to just five units. And now, Italian company Composite Work has announced a very cool Extrema V8X package based on a Lotus Exige.
Composite Work replaced the car’s standard 275 HP 4-cylinder engine with a more powerful one: a LS9 V8 from the Chevrolet Corvette. With an output of 649 HP, this engine will sprint the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, from 0 to 100 mph in 7 seconds and up to an impressive top speed of 200 mph.
The Lotus Extrema V8X will be featuring a carbon-fiber body work and will weight just 2138 lbs. On the interior it will get special SP-1 carbon fiber twin skin seats. And that huge rear wing on the rear not only improves the car’s aerodynamics but also makes it looking better than ever.
The Lotus Nemesis was able to shatter the U.K. land speed record for an electric vehicle in September 2012, but many people didn’t even know this vehicle existed. Did Lotus create an electric model while no one was looking?
No, the Nemesis isn’t an all-new electric vehicle built by Lotus in an attempt to rebuild its damaged image. The Nemesis is actually a one-off Lotus Elise converted to electric power by Ecotricity – a Great Britain-based renewable energy company.
Typically, when you think of the electric vehicle, you imagine the likes of the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi i-MiEV; you think, a slow and ugly buggy that looks as if the manufacturer built it out of spite rather than to actually sell. Well, first we had Tesla eliminating the ugly and slow stereotypes rather effectively and now you have this Nemesis ripping that stereo type to shreds and stomping it into the ground.

The sleek and sexy Hennessey Venom GT became a successful model in a very short time and Hennessey is hoping to repeat that success with an open top version of the same sports car. The new Hennessey Venom GT Spyder will be offered with a removable top and will only be produced in a limited run of five units, two of which have already been spoken for. Deliveries will begin in Summer 2012 and prices will start from $1.1 million, about $150,000 more than the Coupe’s top version.
The Venom GT Spyder will be powered by the same Chevrolet sourced V8 engine found in the Coupe with an output of 1,200 HP at 6,500 rpm and 1,155 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm. Because of the added weight from the removable roof, performance numbers should be a tad bit slower than the Coupe, which sprints from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds and to 200 mph in 15.9 seconds, on its way up to a top speed of 275 mph. The engine will more than likely send its power to the rear wheels via a Ricardo 6-speed gearbox and handling will be facilitated by a KW variant three-adjustable coilover suspension.
As far as its design goes, the Venom GT Spyder will start off with the Lotus Elise base and will follow along the same extreme design lines as its Coupe sibling. We imagine it will also feature the same active aero system with adjustable rear wing that will deploy under varying conditions on both the road and racetrack.
"With the hardtop in place, the Venom GT offers a very visceral, raw, driving experience," said Hennessey CEO, Don Goldman. "With the hardtop removed, the wind and the growl of the twin turbo V8 will offer our clients an even greater driving sensation."
The 1,200 HP will make the Venom GT Spyder the most powerful convertible in the world. Will it also be the fastest? We believe it will, but Hennessey will have to keep that 275 mph top speed intact.

It’s going to take a while before Lotus finally drops the new generation Esprit on the market, but until then, the previous generation Esprit is still getting tons of attention. The V8 version produced between 1996 and 2004 delivered a total of 354 HP and was capable of hitting a top speed of 175 mph. It was limited to only 1237 units, and one of those units caught the attention of Cam Shaft.
The tuner started with tweaking the V8 engine, adding adjustable cases by Forge inside the turbo compressor pumps, a self designed compressor cooling system, and two 100-cell structure catalysts. As a result, the V8 engine now delivers a total of 492 HP and can hit an impressive top speed of 189 mph. The 0 to 60 mph sprint time has been improved, from the standard 4.9 seconds to 4.3 seconds.
The transmission is also new: the old 5-speed gearbox by Renault has been replaced by a new 6-speed Dog-Engagement gearbox equipped with a longer total ratio. The car was also equipped with a new breaking system for 350 sport models (from 2000 series) with AP racing 4-bucket device and perforated brake discs with a 330 mm diameter to match the speed-up.
Partnerships and collaborations have become an increasing trend in the auto industry these days, and we need to look no further than the agreement struck up between Lotus and Mansory to know that the trend is on the upward tick.
The British automaker and the Swiss tuner recently announced that the two companies will be working hand-in-hand with each other for a number of future projects.
While details are still slim pickings at this point, the partnership between the two will make Mansory the "official customization studio" of Lotus with the former working hand-in-hand to build and contribute "bodywork, trim, and special finishes" for some of the latter’s vehicle offerings, including the Evora, Exige, and Elise.
According to Wolf Zimmerman, Lotus’ Chief Technical Officer, the partnership between Lotus and Mansory was sealed to further bolster the profiles of both companies, giving the tuner an opportunity to build programs for the automaker, similar to what they did last year when they debuted a program for the Lotus Evora at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
"Mansory are leaders in their field, and having worked closely with them on the Evora GTE and the special editions we’ve unveiled recently, we now wish to take the partnership to an official level," he said. "Together, I am confident we will continue to produce outstanding sports cars, with the bespoke qualities that many of our discerning customers look for."
The official timetable for the first tuning program under this new partnership will be unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show this coming September. Be on the look out for that bad boy because something tells us it’s going to wickedly out-of-this-world.
We reckon Galpin Auto Sports needed a break from all those customized Ford vehicles they’re bringing to the 2011 SEMA Auto Show so they turned their attention towards a few sports cars from across the pond. One of these vehicles is a 2012 Lotus Evora, which GAS took the challenge of reinventing from a road-going sports car into a fully-dressed track-spec race car.
The result is the Evora R2R, a car that features plenty of aerodynamic upgrades, including a new front splitter, a new rear wing, new side skirts made from aluminum, black racing decals, racing seats dressed in fine Alcantara, and a new set of 19" (front) and 20" (rear) flat-back racing wheels.
To uphold its new race car identity, Galpin Auto Sports also added a new Flowmaster exhaust system, clearing way for the sports car’s 3.5-liter V6 engine to receive an increased output of 300 horsepower, up from the 280-horsepower output of the standard road-going roadster.
All told, Galpin Auto Sports accomplished what it always seems to do best. Impressive modifications all around are nothing new to these guys and they proved that yet again with the Lotus Evora R2R.

Hennessey Performance have revealed the official details on the Venom GT supercar. Based on a Lotus Elise, their kit will be limited to only five units, four of which have already being spoken for.
The Venom GT is powered by a supercharged 6.2 liter LS9 V8 engine, same used in the Corvette ZR1, that delivers a total of 725 bhp. And if this is not enough, the tuner will also be offering 1000 bhp and 1200 bhp twin turbo V8 engine variants. With a curb weight of 2,685 lbs, the 1200 HP Venom GT will hit a top speed of 275 mph.
The supercar features lightweight carbon fiber bodywork and carbon fiber wheels, a programmable traction control system, CFD (computational fluid dynamic) tested bodywork, an active aero system with adjustable rear wing, and an adjustable suspension system.
Prices start at $725,000 for the 725 HP variant, and go up to $950,000 for the 1200 HP Big Daddy model.
“Twelve hundred horsepower combined with in a mid-engine chassis that weighs twelve hundred kilos (2,685 lbs) – no other road car and only a handful of race cars can match the power to weight ratio of the Venom GT,” added HPE president and founder, John Hennessey. “It is a driver’s car, a supercar with a soul that will give you as much speed and performance as you dare ask of it.”

The Hennessey Venom GT may not look the part of a Veyron-slayer, but we’ve always come to realize not to judge cars by their outward appearance.
This little monster is the perfect example of what we’re talking about.
The Lotus-derived, American-tuned supercar packs plenty of punch with its 6.2-liter LS9 V8 engine that produces an insane 800 horsepower. And if you just happen to be spending your time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, you can get a chance to see the Venom in all its glory.
As a preview of the Hennessey madness that will befall all of us come Goodwood, the American tuning company has released a video featuring the Venom GT partaking some test runs to stretch its proverbial legs leading up to the Goodwood Hill Climb in just a few days.

Everyone in the auto industry is anxiously awaiting the Geneva Motor Show due to the growing number of cool cars and concepts being displayed for the approval of the beauty- and function-seeking car aficionados everywhere. One of the cars waiting for its time to shine is a unique vehicle that will surely steal the spotlight from all of the other cars on the show floor. No, we are not talking about another special edition from Lotus or the expected Evora facelift, but a - dare we say - tuned-up version of the Lotus Evora. The lucky one chosen to perform such a never-before-seen feat is the well-known and extravagant tuning firm, Mansory.
There was no way Lotus or Mansory were going to allow any official details to be leaked out ahead of the Geneva debut, but what they did provide is a couple of images that reveal a carbon fiber extravaganza. Not only is there a carbon fiber hood, a new front bumper with carbon fiber air inlays, new side skirts, and a carbon fiber rear diffuser, but there are also carbon fiber exterior mirrors, a carbon fiber rear wing, and a new set of wheels rounding off the the look.
What’s hiding under the hood is still unknown in our part of the world so we’ll just have to wait and see what’s in store for all of us when the Geneva show doors open. In the teaser press release provided, Lotus says that this project is "merely the first toe in the water and a showcase of the potential future." Well, Lotus, consider our interest piqued. Just make sure you’ve got something under that hood that is worthy of such a dramatic preview. We’d hate to be as disappointed in Lotus’ future as we were with the new Ferrari FF.
With the growing number of Ferraris and Lamborghinis cruising their way through our streets, it’s refreshing to see a Lotus taking its worthy turn at showing off. It’s even better when this particular Lotus has taken part in a little tuning project of its own. Tecnocraft has taken a couple of Lotus models, including the Exige and the Elise, and has molded and shaped a good amount of carbon fiber for a product worthy of a little attention.
No official details have been given on the final product just yet, but these pictures show a classy combination of yellow and black for the exterior and the interior of the sports car. Considering carbon fiber was the way to go for these Lotus models, we imagine that a weight reduction is definitely in order. Just how much weight has been schlepped off is anyone’s guess at this point.
The carbon fiber sports seats being used in the Lotus model have already been showcased in Tecnocraft’s version of the C63 AMG, but another new addition for the sport cars will be a news set of wheels to further decorate the exterior.
As a refresher, the standard Elise is powered by a supercharged 1.8 liter engine that develops a total of 217 hp and rockets the car from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. The Exige gets a supercharged and intercooled 1.8 liter engine with 257 HP and a sprint time of 4 seconds.
The insanely wonderful Hennessey Venom GT is coming to SEMA in Las Vegas. The Lotus-bodied, LS9-powered Venom GT is sure to make those Hyundai models and Ford Fiestas quiver in fear.
The Venom GT is a little boy’s dream car. We have all wondered what could happen if we stuffed a massive motor into a small car right? Well, we can now find out. Should we be surprised about it? We strongly doubt it! After yesterday’s unveiled images of the production version Hennessey Venom GT, today we find out that someone had the pleasure of driving the chassis 001. The lucky driver was a customer in the Middle East by the name of Al DiMora of DiMora Motorcar.
The Venom GT is based off aLotus Elise and is powered by a twin turbocharged Chevrolet LS-series aluminum V8 producing 1,200 hp and 1,135 lb-ft torque mated to a 6-speed Ricardo manual transaxle (the same as found in the Ford GT). Boasting a dry weight of just 2,548 lbs and a curb weight of 2,685 lbs with a full tank of fuel, the car delivers on its promise of an astounding power-to-weight ratio. This supercar will hit a top speed of 200mph and will feature lightweight carbon fiber bodywork and carbon fiber wheels.
We have to remind you, there will only be 10 units of this vehicle built each year and the first model to go out was purchased for the Venom GT was $850,000.
