Lotus CEO Abruptly Steps Down Just as the Company is Poised to Take Flight
Jean-Marc Gales abruptly stepped down from his post as the CEO of Lotus, citing “personal reasons” as the cause of his exit. The French executive has been the main man behind the sports car brand since 2014 after former CEO Dany Bahar was forced to resign after being accused of misusing company funds. Quingfeng Feng, vice president and chief technical officer of Geely Auto Group, will assume Gales’ role as CEO of Lotus.
Lotus CEO Gets Caught Doing 102 MPH In A 70-MPH Zone; Manages To Still Keep His License
We’ve all been there. No matter where they come from or what they’re behind the wheel of, every driver out there has their own excuse for breaking the speed limit – maybe they’re late for work, or maybe their wife is having a baby, or maybe they just really need a bathroom break. Whatever the reason, it probably won’t beat the whopper Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales’ lawyers came up with to get out of a suspended license for going 36 mph over the limit – “[he] likes to test drive cars himself.”

For fans of "The Spy Who Loved Me," you are likely very familiar with the Lotus Esprit turned submarine — yes the irony of a Lotus model being underwater is hilarious — in the old James Bond flick. Well, like most other movie cars, that one recently crossed the auction block, and the news just come out that the buyer who paid the £616,000 ($996,560) just so happened to be Tesla’s Elon Musk.
That’s big news in itself, but what’s more important are Elon’s plans with this submersible sports car. He plans to bring the car back to its road-going roots, but with the powertrain of a Model S in tow. That’s right, he is taking a car that cost nearly $1 million and stripping it of the majority of why it was so expensive.
Sure, the creativity is out of this world, and an electric-powered Esprit with somewhere between 302 and 416 horsepower in tow in fantastic, but to drop that kind of dough, then change the whole car seems rather wasteful. He could have just snagged up any old Esprit for a fraction of the price he paid for this iconic sports car.
Then again, Elon Musk likely found that scratch between the seat cushions of his couch...

The evolution of the Lotus Evora GTE, most extreme Lotus vehicle ever, went by rather quickly. After debuting a concept version at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August, Lotus then went on to put out the production Evora GTE in September at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. This quick turnover has now been followed up by a special edition GTE courtesy of Swizz Beatz.
Swizz Beatz is an American record producer, DJ, rapper, and painter, although some may only know him as the husband of R&B superstar, Alicia Keys. He, along with
Lotus Design, came together to create a special Evora GTE unveiled at Alvin Ailey’s Opening Night Gala in New York. This special edition is noted as such because it is finished in a chrome ruby red paint. Everything else is strictly standard GTE. It features the typical rear brake cooling ducts, modified rear wing, enlarged intake vents behind the B pillar, and intense use of carbon fiber for the roof, sill detailing, and other carbon accessories. These elements help reduce the Evora’s total weight by about 231 lbs.
Being since this was a creative collaboration, no changes were made to the power source of the Evora GTE. It is still working with a race-tuned 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers a total of 444 HP, which still makes it the most powerful Lotus Evora road car ever built.
No details were given on the car’s prices just yet, but prospective buyers will surely have to dish out more than the $180,000 price tag of the standard Evora GTE.
UPDATE 12/06/2011: Brain Food Film has unveiled a video from the launch party for the new Evora GTE by Swizz Beatz. Special guests included Lotus CEO Dany Bahar, Alicia Keys, Russell Simmons, Stephen Baldwin, Carmelo Anthony, and a surprise performance from Swizz and TI. Video after the jump!
If you have ever celebrated a winning occasion by singing "We are the Champions," then the identity of Freddie Mercury hasn’t escaped your attention. Best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen, Mercury was an iconic singer and songwriter with a flamboyant personality and inspirational talent. This year marks what would be the singer’s 65th birthday and Lotus is celebrating "one of rock’s greatest all-time entertainers" by creating a special edition Evora S that will be auctioned on September 5, 2011, with all proceeds going to the Mercury Phoenix Trust (an aids charity set up by Queen after Freddie’s death).
This special Evora S will be painted in white with a deep red stripe down the middle and will feature a yellow interior. These colors are symbolic as they were chosen to match Freddie’s 1986 "Magic tour" Wembley concert costume. Other choice features for the Evora S include a union flag on the back of the seats and the incorporation of a crown which hints at Freddie’s playful royal role-play. Finishing off the tributary Evora is an inscription on the front fenders that makes a reference to the Montreux Freddie memorial statue, stating "Lover of life. Singer of song."
The auction will take place on September 5, 2011 at the Savoy Hotel in London, where 300 friends and well-wishers will attempt to ’be Freddie for a day’ by dressing up as the famous musician.
If you don’t happen to win the car, there are a slew of other auction pieces fit for any Queen fan. Hit the jump to check them out!
In an attempt to offer a little help for the Haiti, Naomi Campbell joined forces with Lotus Car and created the special edition Evora "Naomi for Haiti" Edition. There will only be eight units produced and each of them will be put on auction, with all the proceeds directly going to relief efforts in the devastated country of Haiti.
This special edition is distinguished by a dynamic color scheme that is highlighted by cultural influences of Haiti, most notable of which is the Haitian flag emblazoned on the two doors with the words “Naomi for Haiti” accompanying it.
The auction will take place between 19 to 28 February during the London Fashion Week. The first unit was already sold for an impressive $500.000. The car two and three were also sold for an impressive $647,000.

James Bond’s Lotus Esprit Turbo, driven by Roger Moore in the film, ``For Your Eyes Only,’’ goes on sale for as much as $350,000 in a June 17 auction at Planet Hollywood in New York, London and Tokyo, Julien’s Auctions said.
