While the German competition is sensible, Maserati fights back with passion and flair with the new Grecale

If you want an indicator on what type of vehicles the market is currently leaning toward, all you need to do is take a simple look at the current lineup of traditional sportscar manufacturers like Porsche and Maserati. While the sales figures of these two used to be dominated by sporty cars in the past, SUVs now make up the majority of their overall tally. This is why a compact luxury SUV from Maserati called the Grecale was pretty much bound to happen already.

New Rendering Proves the Maserati Grecale Should be a Three-Door Hatchback

New Rendering Proves the Maserati Grecale Should be a Three-Door Hatchback

This is definitely what the Grecale should be, though it’s not meant for this world

The Maserati Grecale was recently revealed as the brand’s new compact crossover to compete with models like the BMW X3, Porsche Macan, and Alfa Romeo Stelvio, among others. It follows the typical recipe with four doors, mild ride height, and a slightly sloping roof, all of which come together to make it look more like a raised hatchback than a real SUV. What if Maserati changed up that recipe, though? What if the Grecale was actually a three-door crossover instead?

Maserati wants us to believe that this special-edition Grecale has been ordered by a Martian!

Maserati officially unveiled its new Grecale earlier this week and it seems that the new SUV is already making quite an impression. And, according to Maserati, not only on earth! Its latest creation is a direct order from Mars. Or at least this is what the company claims in its press release. Of course, do not expect a Martian from Mars to have actually ordered this special edition, but, whoever did it, was actually very inspired.

2023 Maserati Grecale Folgore

The Trident marque’s foray into electrification sure looks promising

After what seemed like the longest wait, the Maserati Grecale is finally here, and I couldn’t be more excited. Now, this is an exciting new model for the Modena-based automaker. Why?

Because Maserati’s new Grecale isn’t just another D-segment competitor. The SUV also debuts the Trident brand’s first-ever all-electric vehicle, the 2024 Maserati Grecale Folgore. The Folgore (which translates to ‘lightning’ in Italian) nameplate refers to all-electric models from the Trident brand, with the compete model roll-out by 2025.

The Maserati Grecale Breaks Cover With The MC20's Engine And A Lot Of High-Tech Features!

The Maserati Grecale Breaks Cover With The MC20’s Engine And A Lot Of High-Tech Features!

The Maserati Grecale will be offered in three trims and a special launch edition, with the top-spec model available with the MC20 supercar’s V-6 engine!

Maserati teased the Grecale a couple of years back and announced that it will debut in 2021. But, courtesy of the global chip shortage, the debut was pushed to 2022. Fast forward to the present day, and the Maserati Grecale is finally here. The Grecale slots itself below the Levante as the entry-level compact luxury SUV. But, the automaker has made sure it feels special. For starters, it will come with a high-performance Trofeo version that will be powered by the same 3.0-liter, V-6 engine that does duties in the MC20 supercar as well! It is, of course, a detuned version of the engine, but it still makes over 500 horses. Other than this, it is also pretty heavy on tech features and comes with up to four screens inside the cabin. Sounds like a sweet deal at the onset, doesn’t it?

All the questions about the Grecale should be answered then

In the past few months, the Grecale was caught testing quite a few times. It started around Christmas when it was wearing a red camouflage and continued pretty much during the whole months of January and February. We were even able to see some shots of the interior at one point.

What we didn’t see, however, was the actual car, despite the announcement that there will be an official debut in November 2021. Unfortunately, like all other automakers, Maserati is also affected by the ongoing chip shortage, and now the official launch is moved once again. This time, Maserati confirmed it will happen on March 22, 2022.
