Maserati has revealed its second hybrid based on the same technology that powers the Ghibli Hybrid. Just like its sedan peer, the Levante Hybrid is more of a mild-hybrid in the sense that it doesn’t have an electric motor, just a booster that brings more push at low revs.

This might not be the reveal we were waiting for from Maserati. Not when rumor has it that the MC20 is going all-electric with a tri-motor powertrain good for more than 700 horsepower. Or at least that’s what TopGear found out last September.
In any case, the 2022 Maserati Levante Hybrid mixes a four-cylinder, two-liter gasoline engine (of the turbocharged variety) and a 48-volt hybrid system. The hybrid bit also acts as recovery system during deceleration and braking and according to Maserati literature, the new setup is 24 kilos (53 pounds) lighter than the brand’s V-6 unit. Of course, the claims go on to say that performance and response are not diminished in any way.
On paper, the new Maserati Levante Hybrid is good for 325 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This translates into a 0-100 kph (62 mph) sprint dispatched in six second flat and a top speed of 240 kph (150 mph). Not too shabby for a two-ton SUV (2,090 kilos, or about 4.608 pounds).
The Levante Hybrid can only be had with AWD. Power goes to the ground via a ZF-sourced eight-speed auto gearbox and a limited-slip self-locking mechanical rear differential.
Visually, you’ll do well to spot the differences between the electrified Levante and the rest of the lineup. One thing that betrays the hybrid is the blue metallic body paint, or Azzurro Astro in Maserati speak. You’ve got, of course, your blueish accents scattered around the body as well as inside.
